Being a new outer disciple, you were required to pick up two combat-related techniques and one cultivation technique. Outer disciples might not have as much value compared to the Inner and Core disciples, but a sect can not just use them as meatshields. Once in a blue moon, there will be an exceptional outer disciple who would rise to the peak and surpass their peers, so the Clear Sky Sect waits patiently for that day to come. After all, three of their Core disciples were once Outer disciples at one point.
Li Wei walked into the Martial Library and greeted the Librarian. The elderly man warned him not to take anything that might too hard since Li Wei was a growing boy that hasn't even gone through the Awakening Ceremony to get the Mark of the Creator. That was one of the requirements to cultivate in the first place and the youngest person to get this mark was someone who has been born to the world for merely two minutes. He was now known as the Battle Emperor throughout the lands due to his great combat prowess and his evergrowing strength.
Once Li Wei went to the first floor, he looked around for techniques that caught his eye and gave him a good feeling. Eventually, his instincts led him to two Body Training techniques called the Strong Fist and Rock Fist. The Strong Fist enhanced the base amount of power his body can output and the Rock Fist enhanced the base defense that allowed him to take hits without any consequences. Against Rank 1 beasts, these two were required to be trained to a decent level in order to fight them without dying too quickly. Additionally, those who master these two arts can easily match up to a Rank 1 beast that hasn't reached their peak or has become an adult.
However, these two techniques weren't combat techniques, so it is highly recommended for the user to not fight others with them since they will prove ineffective. What many do not know is that these two techniques were a part of a series. They were only the first part of three and only the Librarian has access to the rest due to how difficult and time-consuming they were to learn.
Next on the list was a cultivation technique. Many of the disciples start out with the Basic Qi Cultivation Technique which was a low-normal ranked technique. It was the lowest level cultivation technique to exist and its only benefit is the robust foundation that was needed to go further in one's cultivation that kind of worked like how an accurate, working blueprint would for a big structure. In simple terms, the blueprint is the foundation, cultivation is the material to complete the structure, and the final completed work is the peak of cultivation. Li Wei chose it and decided to study it until he completely memorized it. Li Wei may not have mentioned it, but he always had great memorization skills. He could never forget a face even if he wanted to.
Once he finished with the Basic Qi Cultivation Technique, he looked around for any other cultivation techniques that caught his eye and found something that looked interesting called the Slumbering Base Technique. Unlike other techniques, this one didn't increase body power or cultivation, but rather it helped with accumulating potential. The downside of this ability is that it required the user to sacrifice his cultivation every time this was used. if there was no sacrifice, it would take the user's life force.
By accumulating potential, it could allow Li Wei to have a bigger Qi storage, faster natural Qi recovery rate, more power per layer in a realm, and even a better Mark. There are 9 classes of marks. 9th class is the strongest while the 1st class is the weakest. In the history of the Nine Winds Continent, there have only been three 9th class Marks in existence. Two of them have reached Godhood and ascended to the Heavens while the last one died before he managed to grow.
Most people couldn't bother with this technique anymore since it slowed down the progress for many individuals. Back in the ancient eras, individuals normally had a Mark a year after they were born, but in today's age, more than ninety-five percent of people obtained it when they were seven or above. If anyone slowed down their cultivation progress, their peers would be ahead of them and that created this psychological pressure of inferiority. This led to conflicts that could've been avoided and thus, this technique was forgotten throughout time.
To get the books from the library, you had to show the Librarian what you took and he had to approve it. The Librarian saw Li Wei approach with his little feet and attempt to put the books on the tall counter in front of him.
"Sly brat. I know what you did." He took the books from Li Wei and checked them as per his duties.
"Hehe. What are you talking about Uncle Li? I didn't do anything." He giggled.
"Hmph. Trying to pull one over me? I am more aware of your intelligence than anyone in this sect. Don't try to fool me."
Li Wei dropped his cute act and kept a small smile. "Give me some credit Uncle Li. I tried at least."
"Not hiding your true self you brat? What gives?"
"Nothing Uncle Li. You are the great genius of the Heavens that have plowed mountains and split lakes. How could I disrespect the man who was known as the War Hero of Lightning?"
"Flattery doesn't get you anything." He handed the books back to Li Wei. "How about this. You come to visit this old man more often and we'll keep this between us." The boy brightened up.
"Of course! I would love to win some Jors. Ahhh. The spicy and yet sour flavor of that candy. I can already imagine it." Li Wei drooled a little.
"Okay, you Jor addict. I get it. You are better at chess than me. You don't have to rub it in." He sighed.
Li Wei had an innocent look on his face. "What are you talking about Uncle Li? I didn't say that. You know it's rude to put words in someone's mouth."
A headache started to develop. "Run along already brat Wei. You're making my head hurt."
"Hehe. I'll leave then. Don't die of old age old man. I still need to beat you up first." He sprinted out without looking back.
Librarian Li smiled. "I'll be waiting."
