Chapter 5 Details

"The Doctor will see you now".

Chen Fei paused for a moment feeling as though those particular words had some other alternative meaning to them. Nothing sinister or evil in nature, but there was definitely some sort of joke hidden within the young woman's words.

Glancing sideways and seeing the various snickers and giggles coming from the other members of the group, Chen Fei knew the young girl had made some sort of reference or joke but he ignored it completely and headed inside.

Just by looking at the level of security within this place Chen Fei was becoming more and more curious at just who this "Doctor Kim" was. Being a university Professor, he definitely had the ability to access something like the Spiritual Power Refinement Method, but deriving a new Cultivation Method from just that alone didn't spark any sort of interest within Chen Fei's heart.

From what Eugene told him, the Spiritual Power Refinement Method was only acceptable if there was nothing else on the table. It wasn't bad by any means, however it was nowhere even near the definition of 'good'.

"Being able to create or at least refine a Cultivation Method takes some serious time and effort. I didn't know that many civilians outside of the Three Big Ones were capable of stuff like this....".

Chen Fei glanced around taking note of the huge amounts of books and individual pieces of paper scattered about everywhere. The left side of the room was completely spotless however, not even a single speck of dust could be seen in comparison to the veritable pigsty on the right side of the room.

None of the others followed Chen Fei inside so Chen Fei was the only one within this heavily constrasted room. Taking a step further step forward an unfamiliar shout came from the other side of the room.

"Hmm? This particular spiritual nexus actually doubles in size when spiritual essence is rotated at a speed of..... this also proves my theory about the locks hidden throughout the..... however I've only discovered three of the spiritual nexus'. There must be dozens hidden throughout the body. I've only scratched the surface with my-! Ah! How did you get in here!".

A young relatively young looking man, probably in his late twenties jumped back in surprise when he saw Chen Fei just standing the centre of his laboratory, and expressionless look on his face.

The young man, who had a very prominent beard growing on his face, and extremely scruffy hair that looked more like an animals adjusted his glasses for a second and stared at Chen Fei his eyes landing on the Holy Library attached to his wrist.

Instantly he made the connection.

"Ah-ha! You must be Chen Fei! The new potential Fossil Knight in this City! I've been waiting for so long for someone with your potential to be born in Water Moon City! And finally, my theories can be tested for real this time!".

The young man, presumably Dr Kim gazed at Chen Fei as though he was the most precious and rarest porcelin doll he had ever seen. Chen Fei started to feel slightly uncomfortable with his strange look, but didn't take it to heart considering someone who worked in such a weird environment must have some sort of weird personality to go along with it.

He was guided by Dr Kim towards the clean section of the room and sat down on the only chair on this side of the room.

"Before we start I need to know a couple of basic things about your physiology. Just some normal stuff, nothing too personal".

Chen Fei nodded, going along with Dr Kim's train of thought.

"Blood Type?".

"O- Blood".

"Height?".

"165 cm".

"Weight?".

"I think about 61 kilograms maybe 62?".

Dr Kim dotted down everything that Chen Fei said, continously asking various questions about his genetics or heritages. It seemed relatively normal, just asking Chen Fei about whether his family had a history of genetic illness or any sort of suseptibility or anything.

It was all completely normal, until that is-.

"Recent sexual activity? Anything involving another person or animal?".

Chen Fei's eyebrow twitched slightly.

"No, I haven't done anything like that, nor will I ever with animals".

Dr Kim just nodded writing down everything that Chen Fei said.

"On a scale of one to ten, how high would you rate your stamina during mastur-".

"What the hell has that got to do with anything!", Chen Fei interrupted Dr Kim's words, frowning heavily while staring at the older man with a weird expression.

"You're not some kind of sicko right? Somebody who preys on kids? Cause if you are-".

"Please do not misunderstand Mr Chen. In order to get perfect results I need to see the changes on both your spiritual essence and physical body when you cultivate my Cultivation Method. A baseline needs to be established. Your body is currently going through puberty so physical and mental changes are guaranteed to occur. I need to know if it is just puberty happening, or the result of the Cultivation Method changing your body.....".

Dr Kim showed a righteous and pure expression on his face. Through his look in his eyes Chen Fei could tell that Dr Kim wasn't messing around when it came to these questions, nor did he have some sort of alterior motive in regards to said questions.

"So, one a scale of one to ten, one being once a day and ten being as many times as you want, how high would you rate your stamina during-".

"5! Maybe 6 on a good day!".

Chen Fei's face was completely red and he was clenching his fist tightly out of embarrassment, knowing full well he was the only one feeling uncomfortable in the situation.

Dr Kim only thought of Chen Fei as a human sized lab rat, one that must be taken care of with the utmost importance. Any potential outliers or disruptions with hid Cultivation Method may be the reason why Chen Fei lives or dies....

Dr Kim blinked several times.

"..... Is that how many times a day or like a number from one to-".

"From one to ten goddamit!".

Chen Fei cradled his head in his arms. This wasn't how things were supposed to go, the thought to himself....

After enduring another round of embarrassing questions to do with his body, Dr Kim only nodded slightly before smiling and looking at his lab rat.

"Well, your physical condition isn't by any means the best, and its pretty average for a fifteen year old. However from what you were telling me, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong anywhere throughout your body. Which is good because that means we'll get more accurate data when you cultivate "Boundless" over a longer period of time.....".

Chen Fei raised an eyebrow when he heard the name "Boundless", subconsciously drawing similarities to a Cultivation Method of a similar name, "Endless". The exact one Eugene warned Chen Fei not to cultivate, under any circumstances.

Chen Fei turned towards Dr Kim, giving him a suspicious look before speaking up.

"This doesn't have anything to do with "Endless" does it? Cause if you just changed the name to get me to cultivate it, I won't do it".

Kim Baek Hyeon blinked a couple times before showing confused expression on his scruffy looking face.

""Endless"? Is that the name for another Cultivation Method? No wonder why I couldn't register "Boundless" with its earlier name, there already is one called "Endless".... Ah! But I assure your Mr Chen, my "Boundless" has absolutely nothing to do with this "Endless" Cultivation Method. I guarantee, that no other Cultivation Method is quite like my own! Of that I am sure!".

Chen Fei gave the Doctor a suspicious expression before nodding and opening his palm to accept the Cultivation Method.

"The reason I called it "Boundless" was due to several theories regarding the mutations to the human body after being exposed to spiritual essence. Considering that everything on this Earth is now influenced by spiritual essence, it was made to assume that the human body was an exception, considering Knights could refine it into spiritual power. However, the majority of the population is still affected by spiritual essence, but can't refine it into spiritual power. Why is this Mr Chen?".

Chen Fei shrugged his shoulders while giving Kim Baek Hyeon a thoughtful look.

"Isn't it just that their awareness isn't high enough? I was taught that those who could become Knights have a higher innate perception than other humans. This extra perception, often called a sixth sense or instinct, allowed them to refine spiritual essence into spiritual power".

Kim Baek Hyeon shook his head defiantly indicating just how wrong Chen Fei was with his answer.

"It isn't just that some people have a higher perception Mr Chen. It is due to the fact that those who can become Knights, already have spiritual power within their bodies".

Chen Fei's eyes widened looking rather shocked more than anything else. Dr Kim just nodded letting out a deep sigh as he continued.

"It isn't known why some people innately possess spiritual power. Not even the Three Big Ones currently know the answer to this question. However, the fact remains, that within every human being, regardless of whether they have the potential to become a Knight or not, spiritual essence exists within them".

"In fact, the spread of spiritual essence within the body is not as even as one might originally think. Hell, even I initially believed that every cell in the body was affected by spiritual essence, regardless of size or location, however this is wrong.".

"Within the human body, are various wellsprings of spiritual essence that have yet to be refined. Every Knight, regardless of whether they are Human Knights or Fossil Knights have at least one wellspring within them, usually partly refined into spiritual power. Only a few other wellsprings in the body are awakened using a Cultivation Method, leaving the majority unrefined, and unused for the majority of the time".

Kim Baek Hyeon placed a small vial of thick red liquid within Chen Fei's hands, and another thin small book that looked as though it had been covered in coffee many times over. Considering its size Chen Fei might've thought it for a doorstop or even something to place under an uneven table. But instantly he knew otherwise.

Dr Kim nodded.

"This is all theoretical mind you, and I can't prove anything without getting actual results, however, my Cultivation Method, "Boundless" should allow a Knight to open every single hidden wellspring of spiritual essence within themselves, increasing their power dozens of times over. Not only would the amount of spiritual power increase, but its quality and density should increase massively as time passes by..... there's only one problem with this though....".

Dr Kim gulped causing Chen Fei to unconsciously straighten his back.

"Due to the massive amounts of spiritual essence and spiritual power gathering within the body, I can't guarantee it won't have..... physical alterations to your current self. Much like how a mutated monster or a demonic beasts evolves as it devours the spiritual essence within the flesh, you would potentially evolve as well, changing in form to suit the current amount of spiritual power within the body".

"In other words, you'd become something other than human".
