Chapter 14 Capabilities

"Wind Attribute? But how is this-!".

Chen Fei frowned for a moment before easing up on his expression as a look of realization rose up on his face. His gaze turned back to the notes Kim Baek Hyeon made on the monitor, and the term "Four-Winged Wind Dragon" came to mind.

"Is it possible.... that as the vial of mutated monster and demonic beast blood transformed my body, I also gained a new Attribute?".

Gaining a new spiritual power Attribute was literally the one thing Chen Fei had never heard of since his week or so of being a Fossil Knight. Every creature, regardless of whether they were a human, monster or beast possessed their innate Attributed spiritual essence when they were born, and were unable to change or improve said Attribute, period.

The spiritual essence Attribute guided one to which sort of battle technique or even revived fossil they should try and contract. If the Attribute the Knight possessed matched the battle technique or revived fossil, a greater power could be shown when they both were used simultaneously.

Chen Fei and his Spinosaurus both possessed a Water Attribute. This meant when Chen Fei circulated spiritual power into the Spinosaurus, all of its physical and spiritual qualities would be greatly strengthened.

With just a Water Attribute, while it didn't limit Chen Fei from picking revived fossils or battle techniques of other Attributes, it did narrow down his potential choices in regards to using his power effectively.

However, with this new Wind Attribute-.

"I can be more liberal in regards to my choices for the future.... at the cost of my humanity of course".

Chen Fei sat down on the floor once more gazing at the massive talons on his hands and the massive claws on his feet. If word of him cultivating Endless got out, using the technique of drinking pure unrefined beast and monster blood to serve as a catalyst to break the "endless" cycle, then no doubt the Holy Fossil Consortium would love to capture him and place him on the dissecting table.

A demonic beast and human hybird. Possessing the natural intelligence of a human while possessing the raw physical strength and dexterity of a demonic beast and mutated monster. With the added bonus of increasing the number of Attributes a person has.

The Three Big Ones would do just about anything to get Chen Fei.

Just as his problems increased, Chen Fei's hatred for Dr Kim grew in tandem.

"Even though I knew what I was getting myself into, why did he leave? I thought he was going to help me figure this sh*t out..... Although to be fair I did consider the thought of silencing him in order to keep Boundless for myself, but still.....".

His angered expression disipated as he let out a deep breath. Part of him still hated Dr Kim for making him this way, but another more reasonable part knew that he signed onto this the moment he accepted Kim Baek Hyeon's offer.

He accepted the possibility of physical transformations occuring. The only thing he didn't foresee, was the possibility of Dr Kim abandoning him the moment the physical transformations occured.

"His "gift".... at least it wasn't as bad as the one uncle gave me....".

Chen Fei glanced downwards, noting the lack of any scar on the right side of his chest. It was completely healed during his transformation, and any sign of the scar internally had completely vanished as well.

A melancholy feeling rose up within Chen Fei. But was quickly suppressed as another deep breath escaped his lungs.

"Nevermind that stuff for now. Right this moment, I've got to figure out a way to get out of here. It must be nightfall by now, so the amount of people on campus should be none with the exception of a few cleaners and security guards. I doubt any of them could catch me, with my Copper Knight speed".

Chen Fei made a "tsk, tsk" sound with his tongue, immediately making the baby Spinosaurus sleeping on the floor prop its head up and turn towards Chen Fei.

Almost instinctively Chen Fei summoned the Spinosaurus into his Spiritual Gateway, causing the waist-high baby dinosaur to vanish into tiny little motes of blue and dark-yellow light. Looking down at his heart spiritual wellspring Chen Fei could see the little Spinosaurus sleeping soundly within it, passively absorbing spiritual power through the Spiritual Gateway.

"Alright. Let's go".

Opening the massive metal doors to Dr Kim's laboratory Chen Fei slipped out, closing the huge door behind him. After taking two steps out from the lab, Chen Fei turned his head back panicking, hearing some voices go off in the distance.

"Yeah, so like I told her that I wasn't looking for a relationship, ya know?".

"I hear you man. I mean we're twenty-six, still in the primes of our lives right?".

"I knew you'd get me man. Thanks for having my back on this. I really appreciate it dude".

"Always there brother".

Chen Fei frowned looking back and front in either direction not seeing any signs of people on this floor. The fifteen year old titled his head a little bit, and blinked irregularly a couple times, as his eyes became slitted and his vision blurred.

Instantly, instead of seeing just a dark, dimly lit hallway, Chen Fei saw huge amounts of purple and blue, with some specks of green and yellow appearing in certain areas of the building, indicating heat sources.

Chen Fei's eyes widened in confusion, before frowning in realization as he moved towards the building exit.

"Enhanced hearing due to the Spinosaurus and Mist-Seeking Rain Wyrm..... And thermal vision due to the Eternal Night Serpent.... Damn it Baek Hyeon.....".

The full extend of physical changes were still unknown to Chen Fei, as what this would do the chemistry within his body. So far, the changes were still just external, or physical rather. However, if his brain or personality were affected, he wouldn't know what would happen until something that goes beyond his normal actions occured.

He had the blood of predators flowing through his veins. And had the appearance of one to match. Those claws and talons weren't just there for show after all.

Chen Fei changed his pace from a fast walk to a slow sprint. He instantly noticed that with his bigger feet, and large claws his body's balance was a lot more improved than before. The joints in his toes and feet were adjusted to allow him to run at speeds exceeding the limits of normal humans. With the physical strength to match.

Chen Fei's body practically became a flicker under the dimly lit lights. One moment he was visible, and the next moment he was at the end of the hallway, closer and closer towards the buildings exit.

The thermal vision and enhanced hearing were good for scouting out and determining which routes not to take. He wasn't smarter by any means, and just with a pure process of elimination, the most safest route to get out was determined.

Unfortunately-.

"Sh*t it's locked!".

Chen Fei tugged at the door hard, but not hard enough for it to make a loud noise. The last thing he needed was to attract needless attention to himself, letting people know that their was a half-man half-lizard person in the building.

Letting out a deep breath Chen Fei glanced downwards looking at his claws and talons. Turning his gaze bakc upwards he noticed the lack of thickness behind the glass and a certain idea came to mind.

Lifting up his hand, Chen Fei placed his index finger talon on the glass panel in front of him. The sharpness behind the claw was no joke and instantly a small indent was made.

Raising an eyebrow Chen Fei rotated his hand in a circlular motion, one large enough to fit an entire arm through.

"Gotta be careful, not to drop the glass....", he muttered.

Setting the glass down besides the door, Chen Fei slipped his arm through and opened the door from the outside. Why it was locked from the inside and not the outside Chen Fei would never know, but didn't seem to care as he was finding out new things about his hybrid body, still debating whether it was worth other things in exchange for this new power.

Running in the shadows where the light didn't shine, Chen Fei quickly made his way home. The strength behind every stomp of his leg was enough to cause a physical imprint of his foot into the concrete, but after making one, he opted to tread more softly, exchanging speed and power for silence and quiet.

It was already after three o'clock in the morning when Chen Fei got back, and he managed to steal a huge thick coat that extended down to his ankles as he was running home. Chen Fei felt a little bad when he stole it, but reasoned that its uses were more valued by himself rather than the owner.

He couldn't count on the hallways of his dormitory being empty or dark, even at this time of night, and just gazed up towards the sixth floor as a loud sigh escaped his lips.

"Sh*t".

He was definitely sure that he was capable of piercing through thick concrete if he were to climb up, but would definitely make a loud noise if he were.

Chen Fei's brain ran at a million miles per hour. Within Water Moon City he didn't know if any other place was safe for him to hide in. His connections weren't well developed enough to get a place to hide at the Holy Fossil Consortium, nor was any place off campus a place he would consider hiding in until he could figure everything out.

"If I can just find a place to lay low for a little bit. Just until I figure more out about my transformation. Then I can make a decision on what to do-".

"Stop! Who goes there!?".

Chen Fei's pupils became slitted and he instantly covered his head with the hood from the thick plastic coat. He kept his arms hidden within the coat itself, so as to not attract any attention from the person in front of him.

He frowned for a second not hearing anything from the person in front of him though.

'When I was in the University, I could clearly hear even the security guards heartbeats. But with this guy, I can't hear a thing.....'.

Chen Fei didn't let up his guard, only staring at the masculine sounding figure in front of him. He couldn't exactly make out their face due to the bright light in his face, but from underneath his hood he responded.

"I'm a student here! I was just returning to my dormitory".

"Okay. Then let me see your student ID then".

Chen Fei frowned knowing full well that he left all his books and belongings in his dorm room before he left earlier today. He thought he might get back home a little earlier, so he didn't bother bringing anything with him.

".... I forgot it in my room! I didn't want to get caught in a club with my student ID still on me!".

The excuses came to him naturally. He was a fifteen year old after all. He knew practically every trick in the book needed to get him out of homework and classes.

The masculine sounding figure hummed a little before replying.

"I see. Then as a resident of this dorm you must know the young Fossil Knight who awakened in this city just a few days ago. I believe his name was Chen Fei?".

Chen Fei's two hearts both nearly skipped a beat. What did this person want from him, he wondered.

Chen Fei let out a shallow breath before shaking his head.

"I don't really know him that well I'm afraid. I'm in the year above him, so our friendship groups aren't really that close.....".

"..... I see", the voice replied after some time, "I'm sorry for your time then young man. If you do see him, please inform him that 'Crooked Jack' is looking for him. With his capabilities he should be able to figure out who I am".

Chen Fei let out a sigh of relief when the man in front of him started walking away, the light that was blurring his face still visible even at a further distance.

The fifteen year old was about to turn around and look towards his dormitory building once more, but felt a breath on the back of his neck.

"What kind of high school student has the feet of a Theropoda? Do you really think that little of me not to notice the giant clawed toes on your feet? Are you that stupid or-".

With a speed that exceeded the Copper Knight Rank Chen Fei slashed through his massive coat, swiping his talons towards the masculine sounding man in front of him.

Said man only smiled before jumping backwards, the bright light blurring his face vanishing and "her" facial features being revealed.

Chen Fei snarled at the woman, narrowing his slitted eyes at the figure in front of him.

"Who are you!? What do you want!?".

The woman merely smiled raising her hands to show that she meant no harm. Her gaze fixed on Chen Fei's talons and claws, her grin growing even further.

"I'm not here to hurt you Chen Fei. On the contrary, I'm here to help you".
