Learn the Sword From Me

Even if you looked at the surface, this world was never simple.

Many real yet unimaginable things were concealed in the legends or stories around the world.

Old Lu said in a distant manner, "I told you last time that the supernatural powers in the world are split into three camps—abnormal humans, extremely abnormal people, and abnormal beings."

Abnormal humans were humans who possessed special powers. They were hidden amongst other ordinary people and would only show themselves under special circumstances to solve problems. Although they were different from normal people, they had a passionate and sincere heart that belonged to mankind. They were located in darkness, yet their hearts yearned towards the light. Abnormal people were also categorized into naturally abnormal people and acquired abnormal people.

Naturally abnormal people had "abnormal powers" that could gradually become more powerful after their own acquired training.

But the weird thing was… Abnormal people who awakened naturally were all female!

From ancient times to the present, there had been no exceptions.

And males could only obtain "abnormal powers" by entering a contract with naturally abnormal people, who were women. Even so, the obtained abnormal powers may be different from their covenants.

For extremely abnormal people, they used illegal methods to obtain supernatural strength. They were villains who used this supernatural strength to engage in evil deeds. Although they were humans, they did inhumane things. Hence, they were condemned as "extremely abnormal people" and were killed upon sight.

For abnormal beings, this was a blanket name for all organisms in the abnormal realm.

For abnormal beings, the value of mankind was equivalent to that of food. And the delicious sort.

Old Lu spent a lot of effort before he finished informing Li Yao and Chen Xi. He took a sip of the alcohol and continued talking. "This world is far from being as safe as ordinary people deem it to be. I'm not talking about oppression from big countries but the threat from the abnormal space. There are a lot of connection points on earth for the abnormal space. Any places with unnatural legends may not be that simple."

Mankind's safety was threatened by the organisms in these abnormal spaces.

The Dark Ages of the medieval times.

The disappearance of the South American civilization.

The collapse of Egyptian civilization.

And Huaxia, the origins of China.

Behind the backs of troubled times, there were definitely the shadows of abnormal beings stirring up trouble.

Each time, after settling the troubled times, the one in power would inevitably set up a special squad to eliminate the abnormal beings—the Tian Ce Residence of the Tang Dynasty, the Xuan Feng Army of the Song Dynasty, and the Jin Yi Guards of the Ming Dynasty all had similar jobs.

In the modern age, the name of the group was the "Wall-facing Organization".

Upon hearing that, Li Yao could not restrain himself anymore and interrupted. "Then what's the relationship between Big Liu and the Wall-facing Organization…"

Old Lu said, "Big Liu?"

Li Yao said, "Liu Cixin."

Old Lu suddenly realized and said, "Oh, him. He's the chief advisor for the Internal Department of Abnormal Space Sociology."

"…" Li Yao was speechless.

Then all those stories in the Three Bodies… Did the characters there really exist? Old Lu, who seemed like he had noticed Li Yao's suspicions, smiled and said, "Youngster, don't overthink. We only hired Mr. Liu after he published the Three Bodies. Although he's an ordinary person, his thoughts about extraterrestrial life and the relationship between these groups were still valuable. So we hired him."

Li Yao let out a breath.

He still thought that his world view had to collapse again.

Afterward, Old Lu continued. "Then Mr. Liu absorbed some of the opinions in the organization. Then, he had ideas about the Wall-facing plans and Swordsmen plans… I have read Mr. Liu's books before. They're really good."

"…" Li Yao was speechless.

Alright.

After thinking about it, Li Yao asked again, "Then aren't you scared that Mr. Liu would leak the secrets out?"

Old Lu said firmly, "Those who know had known since a long time ago. Those who don't know will never know."

This was like a layer of window paper.

People who fail to poke through it would never get to see the scenery behind the window. For people who have poked through it, it was meaningless to conceal.

Li Yao was thoughtful.

Did this mean that he was now considered someone who had poked through that layer of window paper? Though it was someone who walked out from the window that helped him poke through it.

At that point, Old Lu looked towards Chen Xi. "Girl, don't you have any feelings?"

Chen Xi said calmly, "No."

Old Lu was speechless. "…"

I promoted the organization in such a noble and upright light, yet you don't feel any passion or excitement? Girl, you cannot be so cold-blooded… You are still a youngster!

Old Lu's face turned green from Chen Xi's sentence.

He only got over it after a long while and said, "Girl, it's like this. Our organization is official. It's not some stray, unrecognized organization. We shoulder an immense responsibility. Don't you want to join us? Be that guardian in the darkness who shoulders the burden of thousands of families. Secret yet great."

Chen Xi shook her head and said, "I don't want to."

Kua!

Old Lu felt something in his heart shatter.

He was a bit stunned.

He remembered that many years ago, when his master told him about this secret yet noble organization, he was so excited that he could not sleep for the entire night. He pestered his master for a few days to let him join the "Wall-facing organization". His master only agreed reluctantly after being pestered to the point of annoyance.

He only knew afterward that people in his lineage must join the Wall-facing organization!

Old Lu learned from what his master did that year and said whatever had to be sad… He did not expect that the girl beside him did not identify with him at all and absolutely did not want to join the organization!

His heart was stabbed.

Old Lu rubbed the space between his eyebrows and prepared to change the perspective. Since he could not appeal to them, he would let them know the truth with love and make sense with reason!

"Girl, it's like this…"

But before he finished speaking, Li Yao interrupted again and asked, "Your organization must be very dangerous, right?"

Otherwise, why would they try to get people to join so urgently?

However, when faced with this question, it was rare that Old Lu did not mock Li Yao. Instead, he said seriously, "Yes, very dangerous. And you still have to maintain the perception of the ordinary people and kill the danger in darkness."

Li Yao asked, "But what do you want from it?"

It was such a dangerous thing.

Yet they still had to do it wholeheartedly. After accumulating so many accomplishments, they still had to be concealed in the darkness and be unknown. Li Yao was an independent and selfish person. He felt that efforts should be compensated by rewards. Even if it was a word of thanks or a smile from the other party, or even his own inner peace, it was good… The Wall-facing organization was risking their lives to protect world peace in darkness, yet no one would ever know.

What were they after?

Old Lu stayed silent.

He sat there like a statue.

He thought of many things. He remembered his comrades from all these years who had died beside him. He remembered the couples who died in the Seal Battle… He breathed in deeply, and it seemed as if he had taken in all of the air in front of him. He lifted his chest. Even when he was sitting there, it was like his body was constantly increasing in height, like a steep mountain peak rising up from the plains.

"I have thought of this question too. For a period of time, I could not understand it… F*ck, what are we going after? What a loss.

"But one day, I went onto the streets and saw a young girl, who was holding a cotton-candy stick, running towards her mother in unstable steps. They were laughing happily… The entire world was peaceful. There were no skeletons or fresh blood on the ground. In the surroundings, there were no pathetic howls of war… I just thought the peace was good.

"Someone had to protect the peace.

"Since there must be someone to do these things, then I'll just do it as I have the ability to do so. So why ask for all the reasons?"

Old Lu turned his head and stared at Chen Xi with a strong gaze. He said, "Learn the sword from me, girl."
