Chapter 10: Gift from Heaven

Early in the morning, a couple is walking uphill. The man is hugging the backside of the woman with his arms while holding her hand on his other arm. Looking at them, you could feel the love he showered towards the woman.

The man looked at his wife in sadness. He could see the lack of emotion in her eyes. It has been a month since she got into an accident and miscarried their baby. The man never blamed his wife for what happened. Actually, he blamed himself because he was not there to protect them.

"Mina, look at the trees. Aren't the leaves beautiful because of the rain last night? The sunlight is being reflected in the dews and they look like they are glowing" the man excitedly pointed to the tree nearby.

Hearing her husband's voice, she looked at the direction where he is pointing but did not show any emotion. She looks like a puppet that moves only when the strings are pulled. Sadness was plastered on her husband's face again.

Failing to incite a reaction from his wife, he sighed in resignation and continued to guide his catatonic wife towards the nearby stream. This was their favorite place when they were still children. Together with their other village friends, they would come here to play in the water, catch fish and have a bonfire.

But not all of their memories here are joyous. This is also were she almost drowned and lost her life. Luckily, he was good at swimming and saved her. That was also the time when he realized his feelings for her. After that incident, he patiently pursued her. She was traumatized of her drowning incident that she never came here again until the day she said 'yes' to his proposal. 'That was the happiest day of my life. The woman of my dreams promised to become my wife' he reminisced.

He let out a deep sigh while he wallowed about their past. He looked at his wife and cannot help to sigh again. She just looked like her soul has left her body. Resigning to his fate, he continued to guide her wife walking alongside the river.

"uWaaaaaah"

Suddenly, they heard a baby crying. The man stiffened as he was shocked to hear a crying of a baby in the middle of the forest. 'Is our dead baby haunting us now?' He suddenly thought.

"No, no, no" he subconsciously murmured to comfort himself. He was too preoccupied by his thoughts that he did not realized that her wife has left his embrace. He only snapped back to reality when he heard her calling his name.
