Chapter 1

Most of my life I was hidden away.

Hidden away from general society.

Guess that's what happens when you were born into a family so wealthy it was beyond the imagination of most dreamers.

However, some people weren't afraid to dream big enough to think up a plan to bring down my family's empire.

As luck would have it, that's the only dream I have had for months.

The last day of what I knew of normalcy.

Screams and glass shattering.

A raging fire.

The last time I would see my baby sister.

Waking up in a cold sweat, a concerning amount of air rushed into my lungs and my chest felt as if it were on fire.

It was a few moments before my fingers were able to move and release the death grip on my sheets as my breathing slowed down to a somewhat normal pace.

I looked over to see that my alarm clock was only a few minutes away from going off.

Groaning, I throw myself back onto the bed. Staring at a black ceiling, theres a red glow from the clock as the only source of light within the darkness.

'It never get easier' the voice inside my head states.

Looking back at the clock with a huff, I decide it would just be for the best to get up. I needed a shower anyways.

Slapping the top of the clock to disable the alarm, I go to search my closet.

Even with keeping a low profile, it is still a requirement for girls my age to attend high school. Apparently when you are forced into hiding, the fact that if you had already graduated when you were 15 didn't matter.

After jumping in the shower and choosing my outfit for the day, I headed down stairs as I heard my mother beginning to chastise yours truly to my father at the small breakfast table.

"Ay, that daughter of yours is always running late! How many times must I scold her!"

"You know, it isn't nice to talk badly about people, especially if they are your kin" I smirked at my mother as I entered our tiny kitchen.

Apart of a low profile requires blending in, so the agency put us in this small 2 bedroom 1 bath house near the high school.

She smirked back at me "as well it's not polite to eavesdrop on your elders".

I laughed at that, she has the quickest comebacks. It's one of my favorite things about her. With my dad as the head of our family, the head had to have a strong and smart wife. She is as beautiful as she is smart, her black hair is long enough to reach past her waist now. Her eyes are always shining mysteriously with a cunning smile and a sharp tongue.

"Ladies, ladies, you are both beautiful alright? Now can I please enjoy my breakfast before I have to go to that hell hole" my father interrupted a potential argument as he flipped through a newspaper without even looking up.

"Tell me about it! That school is an absolute nightmare, and not even the fun kind!" I pouted making my way to sit across from him.

That made him look up from the newspaper and chuckle. My father is a terrifying man, except to his wife and daughters, we could do no wrong in his eyes. He and mother were a perfect match, polar opposites. She was the fire to his ice and they were both genetically blessed. A strong couple with amazing looks and brilliant brains? It was no surprise when my sister and I turned out to be beautiful little demons.

I always felt that I had a similar personality to dad while my sister was more similar to our mom.

"What is the fun kind of nightmare then, Cathy?" he asked with a sly smile on his face.

"The fun kind is when you are the one doing the terrorizing, Eddie" I replied with a similar sly smile.

Seeing his face drop at that name is always priceless, it's like his very soul is being sucked out from his body.

"Stop it you two, those names aren't the worst" mom commented from the kitchen.

"Say's you! Atleast you got a name that matches, Alice!" we both pouted at the table with arms crossed.

When going into hiding, you don't get much of a choice of anything . . . not even your fake name . . .
