Sick wolves hunting

The next day, me and Fiona I wake up in the morning. We slept in different rooms and we come to the kitchen to make our breakfast. Fiona slept in her bedroom, and I slept in the guest bedroom, as she tells that bedroom where no one in this house rests overnight.

In the house I moved into, I live with a female muscular blonde warrior who carries a sword about the size of a pig in my opinion. I didn't even think to touch her because from what I heard from her older sister, that sword belonged to someone dear to Fiona.

Fiona's older sister's name is Diana. That twenty-year-old girl is short, easily annoyed, carrying with her a bow containing a few arrows made by her. Fiona and Diana belong to the Lunderberg family. The family that is busier in construction and defending the kingdom, as I heard last night when Fiona and Diana and I were in the living room and telling some funny stories in front of the fireplace.

After I and Fiona eat some bread with meat at breakfast, we left the house and headed with two horse straight to the Royal Palace. For Fiona, that means a new day as a knight, but for me, has another significant meaning, an important day in my future.

As both of us ride the horses to the royal palace, Fiona asked me:

"How old did you say you were?"

"Ten," I answer Fiona, who she's in front of me as she rides her horse.

"That's why you seemed so young."

"What do you want to say?"

"It's the first time I've seen a wizard who manages to control simple healing magic. I've heard of wizards who took years to learn this spell, and you managed to execute it very well in front of me. "

"Yes ... I don't know how I did it either. The truth is ... I didn't even practise magic at the Orphanage because I was afraid I would be beheaded if I showed someone magic. "

"I heard he used to do this thing. Now you have no problems because the new king of this Kingdom has approved magicians. The king himself is a magician tho. "

"Seriously?"

"Seriously. However, you should also learn some attack spells. "Will learn. But I have no idea how to do that. "

"No problem." Fiona answers after a moment's silence: "I know a good magician who could help you in the art of magic. We'll meet him after I finish today's tour. "

"We will." I correct Fiona, even though my instinct told me not to.

"That's right. Sorry, I've never been to school. "

"Is OK. The important thing is that we're still alive, right? "

"Yes. You could say that."

After a few minutes of riding, we arrive in front of the Royal Palace, where Fiona and I entered without problems. Guards let us in without searches and checks, they looked ahead and behaved as if we were invisible. Now I think I know how the guards in the Kingdom of Livertania feel (I read a book about the life of a guard in that kingdom who is starting to go downhill). We let our horses in a stable from behind the Palace and both of us walked to a house made of rocks with a banner made of wood that was written "Knights and Squire Centre". Fiona entered first in that building, then me. When I entered I closed the door like everyone who comes last in a building.

When we entered the building, we have seen a few knights equipping their own armour, taking their own swords, axes, shields, spears, bows with arrows, hatchets and even some of the knights take a staff or two. Those knights saw Fiona and I entered and they didn't mind us, probably because there are female knights who are like or somehow Fiona. Fiona goes straight to her locker, where she inserts her key into the lock, then she rotates the key to the left two times. The lock started to open after those two spins. Fiona took the lock and give it to me:

"Can you please lock the locker while I'm going to change?"

"S-Sure," I respond after Fiona takes the armour and handed to me the key.

Fiona goes with her armour to another room that has a banner that is written: "Women's wardrobe". Fiona entered that room, and I started to lock her closet using the things she unlocked a few seconds earlier. After I finish closing her loke, I sense someone coming to me. I turned around, and I see three guys come to me. One of them is fat, has blue hair, and wears a squire armour with glasses. The other squire wears light armour with a helmet who got wings and has a sword in a sword sheath at his back. And the other squire does not wear armour, but something I have never seen before, a dress in colour orange with black, a black belt who sustain that dress and gloves at his hands. Those three kids looked at me like I'm the gazelle and they are prey, lions, or something big than those fellas.

One of those dudes, the one with blue hair, asked me:

"Are you new here?"

"Yes. And... You are?" I say looking at the three kids.

"My name is Ron. Ron Husley." respond the guy with blue hair.

"Gregonson." respond the guy with an orange dress and with his eyes closed.

"And I am Liu Grug." respond the last guy, the one who wears a helmet with wings. "Gods be with you."

"Huh?" I asked that guy.

"What? You don't know what gods are?"

"Of course I know. But, what God are you referring to?"

"Have you ever heard of Saint Fin? The God who could create Iron from his blood and make it into a powerful sword who could kill a dragon with one single swing."

"I never heard of him," I respond to that guy, who later started to look at me like an Asian dad who has seen his own son making business with drugs.

"I see." respond that guy with the helmet.

"Anyway..." says Ron to me. "Who is working as a squire?"

"To Fiona."

When I say that name, those three guys started to tremble and looked at me with faces you use when your friend catches a deadly virus where he has zero chances of recovery. The guy called Liu, mumbling to me:

"Gods... Want to you to die so badly."

"Eh?" I replied because I couldn't hear his mumbling.

"Nothing." respond to a normal voice.

The guys called Ron and Liu decides to head to the door, but the other one, called Gregonson open his eyes and looked at me for a few seconds:

"Are you a sorcerer, right?"

"Huh? How did you know?" I replied to that guy.

"It's quite simple. You don't carry a weapon so you could've been a fighter or a magician. The first option wouldn't work because you are way too slim and you have no muscles... So I thought you are a magician. But, where is your wand or staff?"

"I-I don't have one... Well, not yet."

"I see. Well then. I hope we will meet again. Farewell, sorcerer..."

"Judas."

"Judas... Alright, Judas. I will remember your name."

After Gregonson says that sentence, he decided to leave the building with one knight, who probably it's his boss. I looked behind and I see Fiona coming with her armour and her huge sword being carried with her right hand.

"Now It's your turn."

"Huh? I got armour." I replied to Fiona.

"Yes. The armour he is in the Squires locker room. You will find one in the closet with number 341."

"Thanks."

I go to the Squires wardrobe. I walked a few minutes till there and in front of me, I saw a few squires leaving that wardrobe with their own armour and going to the exit. I entered the squire wardrobe. I go to my locker room and took the armour from there. After that, I equipped it and leaving the wardrobes. Then I headed to the exit of this building with Fiona.

After we left that building, I and Fiona walked to the shelter. And there we took two horses. I took a white one, and Fiona took a brown one. Fiona and I decided to ride those horses and heading to the exit. While we were ridding, Fiona said to me:

"We are going to go to the forest."

"A forest. Why?" I asked her.

"The king's order. And don't ask another question. Do you understand ?"

"Y-Yes," I respond feeling a little intimidated because she said that last sentence a little harsh.

After an hour of riding horses, Fiona and I arrived in the forest. There, Fiona get out of the horse and she says to me:

"Go and tie those horses somewhere safe."

"I understand," I respond getting out of my horse and going to her horse.

I started taking the halter horses and taking them both somewhere safe. Even though I was short and my horses were almost twice as big as me, I can say that I did very well. I started taking the halter horses and taking them both somewhere safe. Even though I was short and the horses were almost twice as big as me, I can say that I did very well. I tied them both together with a rope that I took when I left home. I did not tie the horses to the same tree, one to a tall, white tree, and the other, a few feet from the other horse, to a fir tree.

When I finished tying those horses, I go in the direction where Fiona was heading. I don't know what order he received from the King, but I can say that these orders may involve something important for the kingdom, maybe some thieves robbed the royal bank last night or a guard went on a mission and never returned or, rather, it may be about killing a dragon that threatens the Kingdom of Romania and its neighbours.

After a few minutes of walking, I have seen Fiona staying on a giant rock and polishing the giant sword with a worn towel. I looked at her, then down and I saw something I did not expect, three wolves killed by Fiona's sword. The cuts were so strong that almost all of those wolves were cut into two pieces. I looked at those wolves for a moment, then Fiona said to me:

"Don't touch them, kid. They are sick."

"Sick? What do you mean?" I asked Fiona.

"The king ordered us to kill all the wolves who are sick. So far, we killed three. Now we have to kill dozens or hundreds of other wolves."

"I understand. But, how do you see are sick?"

Fiona finished her polishing and then she stands up and jumps from the rock with her sword at a few steps in front of me. She looked at me and told me.

"They have green spots on their heads that make them explode, releasing a deadly gas that can cause a normal person to die in at least five or six days. There is an antidote for such a disease, but it costs a lot of money. Twice your salary if you were to buy them from a doctor, but if you were to look for them on the black market, then they cost less, but they can contain side effects and can even be fake."

"I see. I'll remember that information if I'll ever get sick by that thing." I respond to Fiona.

We both decide not to talk anymore and go wolf hunting. Fiona is in front of me, and I was behind her, making sure that no sick wolf came from behind or any other wild creature from this forest. Fiona puts her big sword behind her sheath and continues walking.

We both walked for a while until we reached a waterfall, and there we discovered on the other side of the waterfall fourteen wolves fallen to the ground. I looked at those wolves for a moment and then asked Fiona:

"Does the disease affect wolves?"

"No," she responded looking at those wolves. "Someone is probably doing our job."

"Whoever is it. It has done a good job. Right?"

"No. Those wolves are still alive. Look." said Fiona pointing at one wolf who started to get up trembling.

Fiona took her sword from the sheath and start running to those wolves. I watched Fiona how she killed that wolf and then started to cut the rest of them like a Japanese chef who cuts food in a restaurant where chefs have to give a show to his customers who watch how he cooks. I looked at her and then I say in my mind: "Does this girl is that dangerous?".

After she finished cutting the last wolf I run to her, and when I was at a few steps to her, I asked:

"Are you hurt?"

"No..." she responds being tired of those swings she did with her sword. "I'm fine."

"O-Okay."

I looked at those wolves. Fiona put her sword back to the sheath and told me:

"Let's continue."

"Sure," I respond to Fiona.

I and Fiona continue to walking the entire forest in searching for sick wolves who are probably suffering from this disease. But how they get that disease? Is it a bacteria? Virus? Or a poison food that a stranger bring to them? Whatever is the cause of this disease, he needs to be stopped.

Fiona and I walked for a few hours in this forest and we killed at least over fifty wolves and we discovered twenty-six wolves that were not killed by us. Fiona can just kill those wolves, and I just using shield spells to protect her from wolf's attacks. I cannot use heal spells to cure the disease because the heal spell I use just make the scars disappear and the skin to its original shape. If I could use a healing spell that could regenerate everything, then I could be a good doctor in the future and I could make the wolves feeling better. Sometimes, I wish I could have learned more about the magic back at the Orphanage.

After we killed another eight wolves, Fiona decided to take a break. We both went to a tree, where we sat in its shade. I took the backpack from my back, opened it and took out two packages packed in small and thick wooden boxes made by some foresters or one of the two girls I live with. I gave one box to Fiona, and I took the other, opened the box, and noticed some chicken meat and pieces of bread there. Can this be called lunch for a knight or squire?

"Thanks for the meal," says Fiona started to eat some chicken meat with bread.

"Are you okay with this?" I asked Fiona after she has to chew the first piece of chicken meat with bread.

"This my normal meal when I work... It is not healthy, but it can make my stomach being full and offer me proteins."

"I-I see," I respond and start to eat that chicken meat with bread.

After I started to eat the first piece, it wasn't that bad and not good. It was between those two things. When I finished eating that bread with chicken, I continue searching in the backpack for something to drink and I found it, a wood bottle with water. I unscrewed the glass stopper and started to take the first sip of water, then I handed the bottle with water to Fiona, who took a long sip of water and then handed the bottle with me.

"Thank you!" says Fiona.

"No problem," I respond to her.

"Let's continue the hunting."

Fiona got up from her seat and took her in front of me. I put the small wooden boxes back in the backpack and the water bottle, then take it back and go after Fiona, who has a small advantage due to her muscular legs.

Fiona suddenly stopped walking and signalled me with her left hand to stop and hide somewhere. I followed those signs and hid like any rational person. I just wasn't going to ask her what's going on, did I? I hid in a bush and watched her pull her sword out of its scabbard and hold it with both of her muscular hands. I had no idea why Fiona pulled the sword out of its scabbard but heard a stranger shout, "Drop your gun or I'll shoot!" I immediately realized that the person who asked Fiona something like that could be called a bandit or a thief. I couldn't see that bandit because Fiona jumped to him and started to cut his entire body with just one swing and then jump on bandit henchmen who were running away.

When I saw Fiona killing those thieves, I was terrified by her nature. I noticed that when she killed the first thief, she grinned at the corpse, then jumped at the next target, smiling. I witnessed a crime that I will never forget and that taught me something. Fiona has a strange nature when it comes to killing people. When Fiona killed those wolves, she didn't notice that she felt anything, but when she killed those thieves, I saw how she laughed at them and their corpses. I leave the place where I hid, go to Fiona and ask her:

"A-Are you okay?"

"Yes," says Fiona putting her big sword back in her place. "Those thieves are the ones who poison the poor animals... they deserve this punishment."

"W-What do you mean? That's way too much."

"Maybe. But it's the best solution in this world we live in."

After she says that, I didn't say I didn't contradict her anymore. We take those corpses and hide in an old little cave. After we throw those corpses there, we continued our hunting. I didn't ask Fiona how she finds out the thieves are the ones who poisoned wolves because that would cause some problems of misunderstanding or regret shortly... That's just what I think.
