I put the ice back on my head at the same time as I received a text from Beth saying that she was on her way.
"I'm on my way. Be there in 10. Hope you had fun!" I told Matthew about the message and he said that we should get moving to the parking lot. He stood up first and then squatted down to help me up. His arm was wrapped around my waist as we walked across the street.
As we strode, Matthew's hair swayed in the wind. He was so handsome. I couldn't get the image of our kiss out of my mind. I started to get chilly and I noticed goose bumps appearing on my skin.
"Are you cold?"
"Sort of." I admitted.
"Here, let me take that from you and here." Matthew remover the ice bag from my hand and covered me with his jacket.
"Thank you."
"Anytime." Out of nowhere, Matthew stopped us from walking and turned towards me. "Holly, I've been wanting to say this to you from the beginning of tonight, but I got distracted from the fun time we've been having. I know this is our first date, but you are so amazing. I have never met anyone like you before, but I've never been so sure that I want to spend more days like this with you. I love you Holly."
I reached out and grabbed his hands to hold them. "I'm really glad you said something because I couldn't agree more. I love you too." I swung my arms around his neck and pulled him in for a brief hug before I initiated a kiss. "Thank you for tonight. I had a great time."
"I did too." We stood there together for a few minutes until Beth finally reached the parking lot and picked me up. Matthew helped me into the car.
"Okay, what happened?" She asked.
"We were playing catch and I wasn't watching and then the ball dunked my head. I'm fine though."
"Okay. Do you need a ride Matthew?" Beth asked.
"Thank you, but I think I'm fine. My dad texted me just now and told me he's coming around the corner. Drive safe!"
"We will." I told him. I relaxing in the passenger seat as I looked out the window as we drove home.
"So how was your night besides the hit?"
"It 'twas like a dream come true'." I quoted Cinderella. The light turned green.
When we arrived at my house, I immediately started texting Matthew. "Thank you for such a great night. I had fun." I texted.
"No problem. I did too. Make sure you put ice on your head before you go to bed. I have to go, love you."
"I will. Love you too. See you later." When my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light. I fell asleep knowing that my life after tonight would never be the same. It would be consumed and surrounded around Matthew and I together. And if it weren't for going with my gut feeling to open my mouth and make him notice me, I wouldn't be where I am today.
The End
