3. Raymond

The first ray of sunlight in days slowly creeps through the small opening in the blinds hitting Raymond in the right eye. The weather has been dark and gloomy in the past few days but it looks like things are starting to get a little brighter. Raymond rolls over to face the dark corner of his small two room apartment. He can hear the sound of his parents awake in the kitchen as the stench of burning food slithers up his nostrils. He wants nothing more than to be asleep but that dam sunlight woke him up from what little sleep he had gotten. "I knew I should have closed those blackout blinds" Raymond murmurers to himself as he slowly stretches, his back cracking with every inch he flexes.

He swings his legs over the edge of his double bed and slowly sits up like a mummy that's been asleep for a thousand years. As his feet go toward the ground he places them a top a pile of clothes that have been there for too long. "I'll do my laundry tomorrow" Raymond thinks to himself as he stands among the pile. Slowly reaching down to pick up the first shirt he can find in the mess, while doing so he hears the voice of his mother "Breakfast!" she yells as if he can't hear her. In the tiny apartment, Raymond could hear a fly in the other room if he cared to listen.

He mutes his alarm that goes off at 8:00 AM sharp every morning and stretches a shirt over his body, then throws on a pair of jeans he also grabbed from the pile on the floor. "The Smiths, again? I just wore this yesterday" Raymond thinks to himself as he reaches for another shirt among the pile. "Ray! Breakfast!" his mother yells once again. "Yeah I heard you the first time." Raymond yells back. "I bet the neighbors all heard you too" he says quietly under his breath as he slips on another shirt. "Jimi, now that's more like it" he thinks to himself. He looks back at the crack in his blinds as he slowly walks toward the door, almost to scold the dam thing for waking him up.
