The darkness that engulfed Kaine was there no more, a little light which later getting brighter and brighter gleamed above the surface of the big damp mining cave that extended for a few kilometres away.
As Kaine was able to see around him clearly, he could see the difference between the walls that surround the cave and the walls that divided it into many different paths.
Each path would take him into different routes that either dangerous or dangerous but worth it. There were visible trace of water in many crook of the cave's walls and floor.
The air was warm but there somehow a hint of uneasiness every time Kaine took a breath, he did not know what it was but it might be the odor from strange and herb plants that occasionally grew in there.
"It looks so much damp than yesterday"
Kaine examined the path in front of him, hoping he could later find some precious Rhaga crystal to sell for helping his family's store upgrade that would be expensive.
His father was the owner of an old small store that sell material and equipment for mining the rhaga crystal in their small village.
About a year ago his father also started to sell cheap and affordable necessities for low rank wielder, specifically the entry level of D and F, but due to the condition of the store which was very old and crumbly compare to the other new store that recently built around his father's it was almost impossible to get many customers.
"Which path should we take today?" Kaine asked and glanced to the source of the light in the cave beside him.
A worm like creature in a size of small kitten that emit the yellowish white light was floating calmly in the air. Its body was covered with soft fur that almost looked like kitten itself except that instead of two ears in the head was a set of antenna like antler.
Despite its unusual look, small size in comparison, and strange appearance from most of the regular lightworm that appeared as the element's spirit, Kaine thought it was cute enough and reminding him to his pet when he was little.
There are a total of six element and therefore six kind of element spirit as well. Thus are Frost, Water, Wind, Fire, Force, and last Light. As Kaine awakened the element to wield Light naturally, a light element spirit will appear to help him control his element better.
He named it Kao and even despite his brother's taunt and disagreement, he wrote his family name 'Gao' as part of its name in the Wielder identification. So now the 'strange' lightworm licensed as his spirit with the same family name as him
[Wielder License Identification]
Summoner : Kaine Gao
Genesis : Tara-Shire, Nove-State
Element Spirit : Kao Gao (Brown Class)
Element : Light (Lv. F)
Even though he already got Kao as his spirit for almost three years, there is no sign that it will be levelling up anytime soon and stuck into its original Brown class, while other people spirit would at least already turned into Red Class.
He was beginning to think that maybe it was all because his level. His ability to wield the light was lower than he expected and even with Kao existence that supposed to help him in wielding the element, nothing much has change during this three years. There were 6 registered level of wielder that approved by the Ordo of Committee as the standard, Level F and D counted as the entry level therefore unregistered as the standard, then followed by the 6 level, level C, B, A, S, SS, and the most rare Level SSS.
Since Kaine still stuck in the entry level, the only way for him to find a better job is either to enter an academy for Wielder to get a certificate or somehow level up alone to at least level C. By now the Ordo Committee Branch in his state would only allowed him to raid for Rhaga crystal or Herb from the low class cave mine, that belong to the house of Nove. He could join a raid group but did not allowed to create one neither did he allowed to hunt for monsters etc.
"Man, I thought they were joking when they said he come alone into the cave"
One voice echoed in the ceiling came from behind Kaine. He did not need to turn around as the voice was fairly easy to recognize. It was one of his old friends and team mate, Dawn.
"You can turn back before it's too late boy, the inside is pretty rough to face alone"
This time it was the leader of Dawn's group, Kalios who talked in a little worried tone.
Six people stopped their pace beside Kaine and he could see Kalios stood in front of the group, followed closely by Dawn who looked extremely baffled with the sight of Kaine in the cave alone.
Dawn landed his eyes into Kaine's lightworm and almost let out a small laugh. His Fire element spirit Vesper, which took the form of a dark purple eagle, arrogantly perched in his shoulder as it seems to look down into Kao.
"I think I can handle this quite well, thank you very much" Kaine gave his words to Kalios.
From his experience, the best way to face this kind of situation was to play nice and 'never' ignited by anger no matter how much he wanted to kick that ugly eagle spirit of Dawn.
"Don't think I didn't warn you boy" Kalios gave up and shrugged when he heard Kaine's answer.
Kaine thought Kalios probably asked for the sake of making sure that no one would gave him any accusation or strange look if they came out from the cave and something might happened to Kaine, once they found out he crossed way with his team inside.
"I won't" said Kaine
He delivered his words without even glancing into Dawn, who looked too smug as it seemed that he was the ace in Kalios's group.
Kaine could guess the reason was probably because Dawn just evolve into a Level C Wielder and the eagle like spirit was probably succeed to enter the Red class spirit.
"Well, don't die!" said Kalios and started to begin his pace again, the entire member of the group chuckled and laugh.
All of them were at least level C and they all brought a big bag in their back to carry the crystal from the cave, and some filled with weapon for killing monsters.
One of the member smiled in apologetic way to him while leading his bull-like Force Element spirit that draw a moderate size of cart behind it. But Dawn especially, threw him a look of disparage as he walked away with the others to follow Kalios.
Kaine's eyes followed the back of Kalios's team that walked away and turned into the one of the left pathway of the cave. They surely would never turned their back to him again, he strangely feel peace once their back were gone in a sight from the darkness that Kao's failed to illuminate. He sighed a little as to think back about why all of the things that happened now was because an incident that happened almost 400 hundred years ago.
Back then the human world faced a great negative wave catastrophe which wiped out nearly half of the population in the world.
Monsters, pestilence, cataclysm and many more endangered the existence of human being.
Therefore, a group of mages which used to be the laughing stock as their weak power of magic did not do much help to the people suddenly became the only hope for the existence of human being against the negative wave.
Thus, they managed to seal a covenant with the Queen from the Spirit Word, causing every human went through evolution with a life force that prolong their life, some of them blessed with the Rhaga which allow them to wield the element and the element spirit could be bound into their soul.
Human being finally began to fight back and centuries later, this group of mages now are regarded as the first great elders which save the world. Many years later their family's house and descendants continuing their status as The Great Ordo.
Although the worst has passed the fight did not over, as the negative wave could not be erased completely yet. Therefore, human being still continued fighting to protect themselves and their world, and most of all their existence. The job as mage and magical power that used to be looked down was now renamed as "Wielder" and it is the job that looked as noble and honorable.
Among them was 19 years old Kaine who definitely did not even reach the stage of fighting the negative wave yet as he even struggle to live and helping his family, just like now as he tried to test his luck by entering the mining cave alone
"Are you afraid? Come on, it is not our first time in here buddy. It will be just like the usual" Kaine said to Kao in a persuading manner
It looked into its partner as if it was unsure about the whole activities that he planned.
But when it saw the determination in his eyes as well as his drenched in sweat clothes that mixed with dirt, it somehow become soften and calmly rolled into Kaine, making the latter smiled a little and patting its head.
"Good kid let's go Kao! We don't have much time before it gets dark outside and the monster roaming around"
When Kao heard this, it finally came into a realization and suddenly bolted away to the front and turned into the most the rightmost pathway, leaving Kaine who has yet able to process the situation
"Wait you naughty kid! We are supposed to go in together, don't go away to far! I can't see much"
Kaine ran as he followed Kao into the darkness of the cave inside, afraid Kao might go too far without his assistance.
Well in fact he was worried if he was the one who might get lost into the cave due to the darkness. He tried to control his breath as he thought about the possibilities inside of the cave.
'there better be some crystal instead of monster inside instead of monster' he thought while sighing.
