Toxins that zergs released were highly harmful once exposed for too long. In a way where it slowly eats your muscle tissue, making you weaker and weaker until you can't move. Of course, if treated in time, there is still a chance one might not become a vegetable, but it will definitely weaken one's strength.
Lex's sickness was found three days after, but it had already eaten almost a quarter of his muscle cells. His left arm had gone limp, and his shoulders were aching.
"Its best for you to go then. You could still stay, but you can't achieve anything in the military with an arm like that (not saying those with disabilities are useless, don't take it too heart).
Lex was in a very bad mood. He couldn't say he wasn't sad, sad that he had met with such misfortune, but more than that, he was angry. Angry at himself, for not listening to the commander, angry at Mars, for immediately jumping ship after hearing of his sickness. But most of all, he was angry at the commander. At the cold hearted commander, who was the first one to realise, the first one to care, and the only one who stayed. His heart was in a mess, confused by his actions, the grief on his face, which was even heavier than his own.
The commander whom he thought hated him, who he thought would be most happy with his fate, begged, begged for him to stay. An alpha never kneel, but this one lost all self control, to the point of shedding tears. Not in front of Lex, of course.
Nikoli silently trembled, sitting like usually do, in the armchair he usually do all his work. In the room where he shared with Lex, ignoring the latter who was sleeping.
He understood now. The feeling that was gnawing at his heart, ever since he locked eyes with Lex. That indescribable feeling, which made his heart flutter, and causes his mind to black out everytime he sees Lex.
When he found out about the sickness, he immediately asked for a doctor, but it had already got his left arm. And with the sacrifice still undecided, everybody turned their eyes to Lex.
Nikoli offered to lead the mother zerg away, but was shot down. "You are still young and so talented, we can't waste such a great man."
"Your family will be very sad if you were to die, after all, you are the son of the king no? We can't let our future king die such a meaningless death when there are other who can replace you."
For the first time, he wished he wasn't a prince, or a dominant alpha.
A silent tear slid down his cheek.
