Chapter 16: 9th Grade Chemistry Part 3

The sound of footsteps echoed throughout the hallway as two people could be seen walked down it.

Aiden and the "Death Guard" Thirteen were slowly walking down the narrow hallway in complete silence. Their destination was "Room 206" were assistant Eric lay.

Aiden had told Number 13 that after he and Eric knocked into each, Eric mostly likely headed to room 206 to check on one of the specimens. What Thirteen didn't know was all that he would find in that room was Eric's lifeless corpse.

They walked for a few minutes before reaching their destination. Thirteen stopped before turning to look at Aiden, as if to say "after you." Aiden glanced at him for a mere second before returning his gaze towards the door, and reached out his hand to turn the door knob. As his hand touched the door knob he slowly turned it to the right until he heard that distinctive "click" of the door, and pushed it open.

What laid there only two feet from him was a lifeless corpse sprawled on the floor. When he saw it he put on a shocked expression and ran toward the body shouting "Eric" in a loud voice.

When Thirteen arrived at the door way he seemed slightly shocked at the seen in front of him before putting on a grave face as he turned his head to operating table on the left-side of the room. The situation had become more troublesome, he had a dead research assistant and an escaped experiment on his hands now. He had to inform the rest of the Death Guard about the situations.

Thirteen reached behind his back and withdrew a notebook with peculiar symbols written on the cover, and started talking into it.

Aiden had observed Thirteen withdrawn the notebook and speak into it. He wasn't close enough to hear what thirteen was saying but he could guess. "Those symbols on the book are quite similar to the ones on that stone tablet, they looked simialr but not the same; were the one's on the tablet looked ancient and mystical these look altered." He thought as he looked down.

Aiden decided to throw that thought at the back of his mind and looked behind him and smirked slightly.

When Thirteen was finished informing the rest of the Guard he turned his head to gaze at the young man slouch over the corpse with frightful look on his face. Number 13 was shoure this event was most likely unrelated to the young man, but his gut was telling him otherwise. A soldier's strongest asset was their instinct.

Thirteen walked over to the body and shot Aiden a cold glare before he saying. "Stay here and don't move. Reinforcement will be here soon, they will want to question you about this."

He crouched down next to the corpse to examined it. "There seems to be bruising around the neck," Thirteen said as observed the body. "He must of been strangled with bare hands.

Thirteen looked over to the side were the operating layed, and saw the straps had been loosen not torn through, " The specimen must of attacked him as soon it was released."

"Hmm" He turned to look back at the body noticed something, "There's no keycard on the body." Then it hit him, he quickly pulled out his gun from it's holster and turned his head Aiden direction, but when he did all he saw was an object flying towards his direction at high speed. He tried to move out of its trajectory but his reaction was not fast enough, a glass vile struck him in the head; "Aaah" he screamed in pain.

The source of his pain was not from the force of the object but it's contents.

.....

A few minutes earlier

When Number 13 stopped him earlier and asked him to hand over the keycard in his possession, Aiden could already figure out what Number 13 was trying to do. The guard most probably had a method verify who the owner of the keycard was.

When Aiden first saw the stone tablet it surprised him, it seemed so out of place. He may not have known how it worked but he could guess. As soon as he saw Thirteen place the keycard on tablet, his earlier thoughts were proven correct.

In that moment he knew this guard wasn't simply going to let this matter go and continue to investigate it. He was annoyed not at the situation but at himself, he was trying to get around this situation with simple words when he knew how these people were programmed.

He may of been slightly annoyed at first but soon started to see it as an opportunity. Before he was troubled about how to get around the guards, but now he had a way to kill two birds with one stone.
