Chapter 18: Runner

"Dammit! why isn't this thing working," Aiden said as he kept pulling the trigger, but alas nothing happened, as Aiden was trying to identify the problem he suddenly froze; he heard the sound of footsteps approaching his direction.

When the guards were searching the room they were suddenly interrupted by the sound of someone's voice, it was faint but they could tell it came from just outside the room. One of the guards Nineteen signalled to one of the other guards to check it out.

The guard that was sent out was Number 14, Fourteen glanced at his superior and gave a slight nod; he placed both of his hands on his weapon and carefully walked to the exit of the room, just as he was turning the corner a loud (Boom!!!) rezounded throughout the area.

Aiden was trying figure out how the gun functioned, when he heard the sound of footsteps approaching; it seemed to be only a single guard, but that was still a problem.

Sweat trickled down his forehead as he heard the guard approaching, time seemed to slow down mere seconds felt like minutes to him. It was at that moment that a sudden feeling of dizziness assaulted him, his breathing was slightly heavy and his vision blurred for a sec.

"What's going on?" Aiden murmured himself as he noticed that a large quantity of stamina had been exorsted, it felt like he had ran ten miles in that very moment.

Unknown to Aiden the symbols on his fire arm started to light up, it seemed like his energy was stiffening by the weapon, as if the weapon was powered by ones own energy.

Aiden layed his back fully against the wall, soon that feeling started to disapear but he still felt uneasy about what happened, it was in that moment from the corner of his eye he saw a glow; it was from the gun. He was shocked when he saw it, but he had no time to think for his senses noticed of another individual nearing; it forced his mind to focus on that.

Aiden turned his head in the direction of the doorway and lifted the gun in his hand and fired. A beam of bright blue energy was fired from the gun leaving a slight trail of static in the air as it reached for it's target.

Fourteen had both of his hands on his weapon as he leaned against the wall only an inch from the door-frame, he took one step to the edge and took a piek around the corner and saw someone in a lab coat slouching forward as if out of breath; he didn't know what to make of it. Fourteen stepped out into the hallway and was about to ask a question but before he could a bright blue light covered his view.

The bright light ingulfed Fourteen view and struck him right in his head, as the blue energy beam struck him it created an explosion that completely destroyed the top half of hid head causing blood to fly in every direction. Fourteens that was deprived of anyform of life immediately fell on the ground with a loud thud! The explosion destroyed the helmet that covered his head exposing what little of his head remained.

Blood could be seen dripping from his exposed jaw on to the floor, it was a truly gruesome scene.

Aiden never blinked even once throughout this scene, he looked at the bloody corpse then redirected his gaze to the fire-arm in his possession; he was greatly shocked by what had just transpired.

The fire-arm in his grasp unleashed a power beyond his expectations, "This weapon is truly dangerous" he thought to himself while gazing at the weapon in question with slight look of fear on his face. He removed his focus on the weapon and looked at the body, most would of been sick to their schmuck looking at that bloodied corpse but Aiden was not, he had already seen a body corroded by acid so this was not enough to make him feel anything.

Aiden knew he alerted the rest of the guards now so his original plan to get rid of all of them in one fell swoop had to be thrown out the window. The only thing he could do now was run, so he did.

Aiden turned around and shot off like a deer being chased by a predator, he could hear the sounds of hurried footsteps approaching from behind him, it seemed the rest of the guards were chasing after him. He ran down the hallway at full speed as he saw a crossroads up ahead he suddenly heard a familiar voice....

"Duck now"

He didn't hesitate for even a second and ducked down. A pale blue beam like the one shot by him earlier flew over his head and hit the ground a couple of feet ahead of him. He however did have time to count himself lucky...

"Roll to your felt" Elizabeth's voice resounding in his head, warning him about another incoming attack.

Aiden did a clumsy roll to his left as the second shot nearly hit him, he swiftly got to his feet and ran down the left hallway.

Aiden kept on running throughout the halls trying to escape his persoures, but they would always be not far behind. He soon realised that randomly running throughout the facility wasn no going to work.

As Aiden was pondering over what to do he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks, he hit a dead end the only thing near him were two red doors to the right and left respectfully.

Aiden simply ran through the door on the right, as soon as he entered the room he locked the door, even though he knew it would offer no real protection.

Aiden looked around the room he saw in a lab simpler to the previous one however this one seemed to be larger. He frantically looked for another way out of here but alas there was none. "Elizabeth do you know of any way out of here?"

He waited for a reply but none came. "What the he'll? This is not good." Aiden was in the process of trying to figure out why she hasn't responded when a loud Bang! was heard coming from just outside the laboratory.

"They're here already" Aiden had an ugle look on his face when he said that, his mind worked at full speed to come up with a plan; as he was thinking his gaze landed on the fire-arm in his hand then at the door. After thinking for a bit he realised that plan was suicidal. "Force" in that moment a thought came to him, "Earlier when they were shooting at me, the power behind those shots were only destroyed a part of the wall and floor, but mine was different.

Aiden gazed up at the ceiling, it was if a light bulb went off inside his head. "Well it's not like I have any other ideas."

Aiden returned his gaze to his fire-arm and tried to concentrate on it, to remember that absorbing feeling from earlier. He did not have to wait long for the symbols on weapon lit up again but this time it didn't stop. The light shinned brighter than before turning from bluish-white to completely white.

Bang!Bang!Bang!

The intensity of the banging increased, the hinges on the door started to loosen; he had very little time left.

When Aiden believed the weapon contained enough energy he open his, lifted his pistol and fired at the ceiling, a the intensity of the shot caused the place to shock; everyone through out the facility could feel a slight tremor.

Debri fell from the parts of the ceiling that remained. Aiden wasted no time, he ran towards the work station and used as a stepping stool; he leaped on the work station then leaped into air then grabbed onto the edge of the destroyed ceiling.

Aiden used all his strength to pull himself up, and onto the second floor.

Bang! the door finally fell to the ground and five guards rushed into the room only to see the lab filled with rubble and large whole in the ceiling.

They all stared at the hole for second before one of the guards that seemed to the leader told them to hurry out of the room, but before they could leave a second explosion occurred; a torrent of flames ingulfed the entire laboratory.
