Chapter 19: The Guard Captain

Boom! the sound an explosion resounded through out the facility eminating from the basement level. The reashers seemed shocked by the comosion, many assumed it's cause was from a failed experiment while other thought differently.

Whatever the case may be they decided to alert the facilities Death Guard. The guards arrived at the scene shortly. The captain of the Guard found this situation to be unsettling.

Not long ago he received a report from Thirteen indicating the possibility of an escaped experimental subject. He immediately sent five of his men to help Thirteen deal with the situation covertly.

However after waiting a whole half-hour not only did he not get any update from them, there were reports coming in of an explosion in the basement level, the very same floor he sent his men coincidence he thought not.

He looked at the guard that came to report the situation to him, then decided on what cause of action should be taken.

The guard in front of the captain was shaking slightly as his commander was simply sitting there staring at him, the pressure exuded by the captain was something that would have caused most common people to kneeling before him.

He could not help but feel nervous as the captain stared at him. He tried to figure out what the captain was thinking but his mind was blank, he could not come up with any theories.

Not much time pasted when there was a sudden knock on the door. The captain looked at his subordinate and gave him a gesture as if to say "Answer it."

The guard immediately went to the door and opened it. The person that emerged from the otherside of the door surprisingly was number Twenty-five.

He limped into the room. From what they saw he was in a terriable condition, his arm was fractured and there were signs of burn marks all over the suite and his viser was crack with red blood seeping from it. His eyes appeared to be damaged.

The captain was surprised but it only lasted for a second before asking, "What happened?"

Twenty-five looked at the captain. He knew what his was like and how he thought. The man had no interest in his injuries or how he managed to escape the explosion. What he wanted to know was the cause.

Twenty-five started at the captain for a brief moment before recalling all of the events that transpired, from finding Thirteen's disfigured corpse to the explosion.

When the captain heard everything that occurred from Twenty-five he thought for a moment then stood up. He decided to check out the scene for himself.

The guard captain and ten other guards arrived at the laboratory were the explosion occurred. The lab in question was scorched black by the flames leaving almost nothing behind.

The captain saw the burnt corpses of his men covering the floor but he ignored them. He walked around the lab. It seemed as though he was looking for something in particular. He walked through the surt covered floor then suddenly stopped.

He spotted the centre of the blast, on the ground there was pitch black mark. He leaned down to examine it, then turn to look at Twenty-five who was standing at the entrance of the lab. "How did the explosion occur?" The captain asked as he stared at Twenty-five.

On the other end of the room Twenty-five could feel formless pressure surrounding him, making it difficult to breath.

The captain saw this and lowered the pressure's intensity. It was by no means gone, the pressure was still there just weaker.

When Twenty-five was able to stabilise his breathing again he said "Before we got into the room we heard an explosion, so we put more force into knocking the door down. When we finally did the first thing we saw when we entered the room was that large hole in the ceiling. We figured he must somehow blasted a hole in the ceiling and escaped. I was just about to chase after the subject when my instincts went of. I told them to run but they didn't react quick enough. Then the next thing I knew the whole lab was covered in flames, I'm not sure what caused it."

The captain gazed at the black mark on the floor again be replying brefily, "It was this."

Twenty-five and the other guard look at what the captain was holding, but were both suprised and confused. For what was in the captain's hand was one of there alchemy pistols, every guard had one. This is where there confusion layed since they all had one they knew how powerful it was, and as amazing of a weapon it was. It couldn't cause such an explosion.

The captain looked at briefly before explaining what he ment. "These weapons absorbe the magical energy of whoever uses it to fire a beam of condensed energy. So unless you have an outrageous amount of magical energy in your body it would be impossible to cause such a powerful explosion. However that is under normal circumstances."

He got up and looked at the hole in the ceiling before continuing, "What is this place?"

One of the ten guards that arrived with the captain stepped out and stood in attention before answering the question. "This room is one of the facilities two hundred tweny-two laboratory's sir."

These ten guards were the captain's elite squadron. They were trained by him personally, their strength, teamwork and weapons mastery were leagues above the rest. The Death Guard was divided into two categories, the common guard and the elite guard. As the names imply, the commons are by no means weak but they are not difficult to train however the elite guard are put under such brutal training that only fifteen percent of them managed to survive.

The captain gave a simple nod to the guard. " These laboratory's are filled with combustible chemicals and explode when they come into contact a flame or any form of intense heat. So what do you think happens when someone fires one of these weapons in room filled with these chemicals?" The captain asked coldly as his gaze landed on Twenty-five.

Twenty-five was again assaulted by the very same pressure as before, the only difference was that this time it did not stop. Twenty-five was forced to the ground, he tried to get back up but he could not. The powerful pressure released by the captain made it important

This was the effect of the guard captain suppression ability. The ability allows him to release a large amount of magical energy and use to create an intense gravity field. This was a powerful but not without it weaknesses.
