Fei shivered, surprised by the cold grip, and turned around in confusion.
"(Who are you?!)" Eyrie stared at her threateningly. Fei just stayed quiet, looking at the hand that was still holding tightly onto her.
" (You aren't Fei. Where is she? I know you can understand me. You must be the one who took me here. Why are you doing this? Is it fun for you to torture me like this? Why?) WHY?!.. " It's been so long since Eyrie could just let all her emotions out; she began tearing up.
She was desperate, and finally found a possible person who possibly knows the secrets of this despicable world.
A series of footsteps that thumped on the grass woke her up. She quickly wiped away her tears and forced herself to calm down.
"Sis Rei, what are you doing here? I heard some screaming, are you guys all right?" An adorable voice sounded.
"Um, you must wonder who this is, right? Don't worry, she won't harm you. She's the present Daddy gave me. She is a mutant, sounds so cool, right?! Too bad she doesn't understand English… I'm planning to teach her. Hehe."
"...You? Teach her? " Eyrie stood with a queer expression, contemplating her little brother's words. Fei is a mutant? Not a Success? Doesn't that mean she's half-human? How...?
"Humph, don't look down on me, sis. Even if I can't teach her, she can always learn with me." Carlos puffed up his cheeks in annoyance.
"All right, all right. Let's go in the house first." Eyrie was suspicious, but there was nothing she could do… who would believe that the new mutant that was brought home was a real supernatural creature and that the young genius of the family was a reincarnation of a previous life? She would only be sent to an asylum.
In her mind, Eyrie was in a struggle. With the world's situation changing from her memories of her past life, she felt angry at her own insignificance. It was as if she was being played by a higher being; she had had this feeling ever since her reincarnation. Eyrie could only watch from the sidelines, for she hadn't achieved enough power to interfere.
...
Carlos was very excited and continued showing Fei all around the mansion, chattering happily, despite not receiving any response. However, as a growing kid, he was prone to tiredness, and soon, all of the previous enthusiasm left him, only leaving a blinking and weary child.
When the trio walked in a seemingly never-ending window-corridor, Carlos couldn't take it anymore.
" Sis Rie, I-I'm a bit tired... I'm gonna go rest. Fei, you gonna come with me?"Carlos yawned.
Eyrie nodded absentmindedly, but when she saw Fei try to go after her little brother, she instinctively grabbed the person's arm and jerked it back in alarm; her hands were shaking, but her eyes were firm.
"Carlos, why don't I take care of Fei for you? We haven't finished touring the mansion yet. Go back to your room and sleep for a bit." Eyrie gestured for a servant to come forward and escort Carlos back.
Carlos didn't notice his sister's abnormalities and grabbed the servant's hand. "Then I'm gonna go. Bye-bye Fei~."
Eyrie pulled back her arm quickly from Fei after she confirmed that her brother left her view.
"( Your master left you in my care. Please wait here until I come back.)"
Her voice shook with the aftershock. Clutching her plain white dress until it creased, Eyrie limped away gradually down the hall, not minding the strange gazes of the passing servants, leaving Fei in uncertainty.
Resolving herself, Fei decided to wait for Eyrie by the wall opposite of a grandiose window. The person didn't seem to be lying to her. Although that woman had screamed at her by the fountain, Fei didn't feel any grudge nor displeasure, only confused.
Interestingly, she could understand her, unlike the others who only spoke in a foreign tongue. Fei took this time to think carefully and reflect on her actions since her awakening.
....
Time flew, and in a blink, the light from the large white windows turned from white to orange to purple. Fei was in a daze as she witnessed the color changes in the sky and how the sunset while the moon rose.
She felt it was fascinating, and multiple times had thought of approaching the open windows to fully appreciate the beauty, but like a cowardly thief, she found herself unable to move.
The strange woman had instructed her to stay here, and here she will stay. Her thoughts wandered as she bathed in the moonlight, wondering if her master is just as amazed at day's changes as she is. She thought of her master's emerald eyes and thought about how nice it would look against the royal blues of the sky. Stunning. She smiled.
"FEI! What are you doing here? I've been looking all over for you! I couldn't ask Sis Rie since she retired to her room, so do you know how worried I was?!"
A little boy appeared from the end of the dark hall. His emerald eyes were filled with panic, and his delicate golden eyebrows were scrunched up.
Master! Fei's eyes lit up. She took a moment to appreciate her master's beauty before she ran towards him with superhuman speed.
In less than five seconds, Fei crossed what might've taken an average runner 25 seconds to pass. She stopped punctually in front of Carlos, and a rush of wind from running at such a top speed crashed into her, causing her hair to fly wild.
However, the wind, clearly not pleased with harassing only the perpetrator, also directed its anger at Carlos, blowing up his hair and slapping at his face.
Fei was alarmed at the consequences and bowed as a sign of apology.
Carlos, however, giggled uncontrollably, and his negative emotions dissipated. He looked adoringly at Fei. Carlos paused for a moment to think about something, and as if he made up his mind, he grabbed Fei's hand and pulled her away, running like there was no tomorrow.
Although it wasn't nearly as fast as Fei's speed, he was satisfied. It allowed him to feel the wind caressing his face, like a bird soaring through the sky.
