Suddenly, the door next door opened, and a young woman stepped out. She had wheat-colored hair and sharp emerald eyes. "What happened?"
"Miss Carol! This person wanted to trespass into young master Carlos' room."
Carol glanced at Fei. "What happened?" She repeated.
"I wanted to give Carlos something, but since he isn't in his room, then I wanted to just put it on his desk…" Fei answered subconsciously. Her mind was still debating whether she was causing trouble for her master by wanting to go into his room.
If it was too much of a bother, then perhaps she should just leave, Fei thought. It didn't matter, anyway. Carlos will definitely be happy. He must be. Or, she could just give the note to him after he comes back.
Carol scrutinized the mutant in front of her in deep thought. Eventually, she gently massaged her temple and sighed. "Let her go in." It's not as if that mutant can betray Carlos and plant bombs or anything in his room, she lampooned silently.
"… Yes, Miss Carol." The two guards did not show any emotion as they parted away from the entrance.
Eh…? Fei, who had already decided to give up, couldn't immediately react to the situation. Did she hear correctly? What was happening? So she wasn't making trouble? Then why was the guard so against letting her go in previously?
"What are you waiting for? Just go in!" Carol snapped, her patience running thin. She never had a good temper when dealing with dense and ignorant people.
Fei finally nodded and staidly walked into her master's room. Those questions in her head didn't matter, anyhow. At least, now she could leave the note for Carlos.
She carefully examined the area. Although the place seemed very mature and neat on the surface, there were traces of Carlos' personality and habits hidden in the corners. For example, junk food packages that peeked out from under the bed, and stacked comics that caused the bed covers to produce barely noticeable bumps.
Fei smiled lightly and stepped forward to place the neatly folded paper onto Carlos' study desk.
After doing so, she thanked Carol and left to go to her next class. Fei wondered how her master would feel, looking at that card. Would he become happier? She thought of his tears and his voice choked up in sadness.
He must become happy, she thought with determination.
--- Inside Carlos' room---
Carol stood hesitant, wondering if she should take a glance at the piece of paper that was placed on the desk in front of her. She was very curious.
Although mutants were technically human, they would not exhibit human characteristics until very far into their lives. They had slow adaptational skills when it came to the emotional aspect.
At least that's what Carol heard in her lectures.
So what was it that made that mutant so emotional and determined? Well… Carlos has very colorful emotions, so maybe that's why Feixin's emotions developed quicker?
Why am I hesitating anyways? This is for Carlos' safety! Carol made up her mind and unfolded the piece of paper.
When she saw the content, Carol sucked in a deep breath and her lower lip trembled.
Maybe real mutants could be different.
Biting her lip, she robotically folded the note and laced it back to where it first was. Even by the time she returned to her own room, Carol still hadn't recovered from her shock.
"… Feixin… Just what are you thinking?" She mumbled under her breath.
…
Carlos had been dragged away by his father into a meeting with the higher-ups that managed the intensive camp where he would be going for four months. After that, his father gave him an earful for his unacceptable grades and childish behavior.
Carlos had reacted to Mr. Rochester's disapproval with nonstop hiccups and tears rolling down his face. It was always like this, with the same criticism over and over again each month.
It was only when he finally returned to his room that Carlos could relax and stop hiccupping, although there were still traces of tears.
The first thing that caught his attention when he entered the room was a piece of folded yellowed paper that was placed on his desk.
What was it?
Did Carol need something from him or something? Nah, no way. She could just call him. No need to actually write a note, Carlos thought as he unfolded the note.
As he read, his eyes couldn't help but become as round as buttons. This…
Clutching the paper in his hands, he immediately ran out of the room and opened the door to his sister's room. "Sis! Did anyone look for me while I was away?"
Carol, who was reading on her bed, scowled at her little brother. "What did I tell you about entering my room without permission?"
"Sorry… But about the question I asked you!"
She rolled her eyes. "Yes, that bodyguard of yours ca--"
Carlos rushed out, not waiting for Carol to finish, and dashed past his nanny, who was waiting outside.
"Young master! Where are you going? There's only two minutes left before you must board the helicopter!" Mrs. Kleinen called exasperatedly behind him. She tried to catch up with him, but as her body was much weaker than the young boy, she couldn't do so.
The bodyguard in black met her gaze, and he nodded, following close behind Carlos.
Oh no! Can I make it in time? The boy ignored his nanny, trying to get to the library as fast as he could. He quickly arrived at the elevator and pressed the down button.
He bit his lip. Why is it so slow?! Impatient, Carlos decisively turned around and ran towards the stairs instead.
He panted heavily as he ran across the marbled floors of the first floor. Why is the library so far away?
No, why is the house so big?
I'm never going to live in a big house when I grow up! Carlos vowed as he wiped away the beads of sweat running down his forehead using the corner of his sleeve.
Finally! He saw the library's doors in front of him and his eyes lit up. He entered. But…
It turned out to be another maze! Carlos silently cursed his ancestors for creating such a complex place. As he ran around, lost, he prayed for Fei's appearance.
"Fei! Where are you?"
Where is she?
Where is she?!
