A week passed by, and Eyrie began to inch closer and closer to Fei, ever since Fei reluctantly agreed to be her friend. She persistently followed wherever she went for most of the day. It was only after dinner that such behavior stopped.
Being the eldest miss of the Rochester family was not as easy as it seemed, and Eyrie stayed in her room until late at night doing paperwork for her father.
During the day, Eyrie did not have to exert much effort to adapt to her new routine though, making her life easier. There were really just two places that Fei frequented, not including the kitchen.
Eyrie did not want to step foot in that kitchen ever again and had requested a change in Fei's schedule. The change instructed Fei to eat wherever Eyrie told her to. Her father had agreed, on the account that Eyrie would help him with some matters.
And so Eyrie and Fei began to eat lunch together. Sometimes, the two ate in the garden, sometimes in the courtyard, and other times in the lounges. Eyrie had the chef prepare delicacies each time as well, as if she was trying to tame Fei with good food.
When Fei was training in the courtyard, Eyrie stayed under the large coniferous tree, seated at the stone table, and either read light novels or did work on her Tech Screen.
Her lady's maid would stand next to her, always ready to serve her, whether it was to provide some documents or a coat from that a bag that she carried. There were other servants too that provided snacks, or stood by, ready to inform the chef if Miss Eyrie was hungry.
At this time of the year, the weather had frequent mood swings; for one minute the wind would be howling in her ears, and for another minute the air would be damp and humid. This type of climate had a negative influence on Eyrie's physique, and so the servants were even more careful when serving her.
Thankfully though, most of Fei's schedule consisted of being in the library. In the library, Eyrie continued to read her novels or do her work as Fei flipped over the archives. This 'peaceful' atmosphere continued from midday to dinner time.
On the outside, the pair truly seemed like they have become the best of friends.
- "Feixin, this book is very humorous, I recommend it to you."
- "Feixin, have you read this book? It's really good! Perhaps the best in the entire library."
- "Feixin, I am in LOVE with this novel that I recently read, it's about transmigration to a fantasy world, and the protagonist is so overpowered. You should read it!"
- "None of the novels here suit my taste. I'll bring my collection for you next time."
Fei furrowed her eyebrows. Next time?
Why does Miss Eyrie keep hanging around me? Didn't I already agree to become 'friends' with her? Fei wanted to ask, but the way that Eyrie was talking so fast and animated stopped her.
She seemed really happy, so I shouldn't bother her, Fei thought. It didn't matter whether Miss Eyrie was around or not, it's not as if she couldn't focus on her own books just because of her presence.
She flipped a page in her book on diplomacy.
Eyrie stopped talking and looked at Fei with a slight pout on her face. She wasn't listening, was she?
Eyrie was trying to talk in different styles and tones, hoping to figure out which one would be the most suitable when approaching Fei. But it didn't seem to work.
Fei was still as closed off as ever, and she showed an obvious expression of displeasure whenever Eyrie mentioned of visiting her again. Well, it wasn't exactly true displeasure, but more like slight annoyance and a bit of indifference, something like an expression one would show when facing a fruit fly.
A fruit fly, huh?
After an entire week, the two didn't seem to have grown closer at all, despite how it looked from the outside!
Why is that?!
Did I not put in enough effort or something? Eyrie was on the verge of breaking down.
She wondered how long before they can return to how friendly they were in the past? It would be a hard thing to accomplish, wouldn't it? She inwardly sighed.
Or maybe it's just that I don't have the patience. We only became 'friends' after FIVE YEARS in my previous life. Not a short period. Eyrie laughed to herself deprecatingly.
The eldest miss propped her elbows on the table and stared intently at Fei, who was reading without a care in the world.
She could never get used to those purple and yellow eyes. They kind of made her forget that the person that sat in front of is actually the same person she used to know in her past life and not some stranger.
Sapphire. A bright, electrifying, crazy blue. That was the color it used to be. To be honest, Fei probably looked more human in the past than she did now. How ironic.
All of the sudden, a strange scene flashed in Eyrie's mind—
In the darkness of the night, a figure that was hidden in the shadows held a metallic object that glinted in the moonlight.
It was some sort of foreign weapon. The figure slightly raised the object and rushed forward towards her.
As the figure came closer, he or she's facial features became clearer.
A pair of azure eyes that glared down at her with coldness and utter nonchalance.
As if looking at a stranger.
A chill ran down Eyrie's spine.
She gasped, and her complexion paled. She clutched her chest with trembling hands.
