Soon, Fei returned to the mansion with her master.
Eyrie hadn't gone with them. She had boarded a different mech on the mysterious building.
Mechs were machines like flying cars. They were different from helicopters in that Mechs were not as loud as and faster than helicopters. These machines had recently gotten popular among the upper class in Country A.
Based on the information given by Eyrie, Fei had learned that mechs were invented by a cooperative effort by Country A and Country C – this was supposed to be confidential, and mechs were officially invented under a group of scientists from Country C.
To the mutant, she couldn't quite understand why Country A didn't claim that it was a cooperative effort and let another country take all the fame. But when she asked Eyrie, Eyrie merely smiled slyly at her.
These days, Fei increasingly felt that Eyrie was very well informed about the matters of the country, more so than ever before.
The eldest miss was often busy, and almost always seemed so tired that she could fall to the ground asleep at any given moment. This had begun happening around four years ago, when she got married.
Yes, the young woman had gotten married.
The one she married was a successful businessman. He was one of the tyrants of the business world; his company brands were the ones that everyone's heard of. The reason that he married the eldest daughter of the Rochester family was due to some agreements that he made with General Rochester.
However, the old master never spoke about the details of the agreements with anyone else, with even Eyrie knowing a minuscule amount.
With her marrying a man she didn't love for agreements that she didn't even know the details of, some might say that this is unfair to the eldest miss, but in truth, her father had given her a choice. He asked her repeatedly about her thoughts on the marriage, but Eyrie never revealed her real feelings.
She had always said that her father's decision would be her decision, and that she didn't care about the marriage. To others, this seemed like she just didn't want people to know what she was thinking, but Eyrie actually felt this way.
She didn't have anyone that she 'loved,' or wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Her experiences from her past life had already deprived her of her ability to trust in her own judgement.
The man she thought loved her didn't actually love her, he loved her money. The second her family fell and lost its wealth, he abandoned her.
In addition, her father was prideful. Even though he told her that she could marry whomever she wished, that wasn't the case. She was sure that if she brought home a commoner, he would be against their love, just like how he was against her marriage with that man in her previous life.
So why not just follow her father's wishes?
The marriage that took place was on a much grander scale than she expected, with thousands of guests, refreshments that numbered in the ten thousand – this was private ceremony, by the way.
The marriage ceremony that Eyrie had in her past life was so bland in comparison. In fact, she didn't even have a traditional celebration!
But no matter how grand the marriage ceremony was, Eyrie's life after the marriage to that businessman was what she expected.
After the wedding night, she was entirely left to her own devices.
Unlike the Rochester mansion, the condo she lived in with her husband did not have human servants, only interactive robots. Well, there was a cook, but that was it.
A month into the marriage, Eyrie found out that she was used only as a pretty vase, with no use whatsoever. Her husband only came home once a week, and that was only staying the night.
It was very probable that the couple hadn't spoke to each other for more than two minutes for the entirety of their marriage.
Although Eyrie had matured considerably after experiencing two lifetimes, a tiny part of her still longed for that sweet romance she read about in web novels, where she would meet the love of her life, preferably a tycoon, and despite the many challenges they face, they will stay together and live happily ever after.
In reality, she did actually marry a tycoon, but no love had blossomed in between them, even after four years. In fact, their relationship had gotten quite strained since Eyrie still had not gotten pregnant with a child.
To abstain from boredom, Eyrie tried to work overtime on her company's matters and hopefully allow it to break through to a higher level. To achieve this, she paid her utmost attention to the news and inside information she was able to get her hands on.
Her company majored in the consumer staples sector, where the competition was especially fierce, and the company was already quite established. If it could grab hold of an opportunity, then it could soar up in an instant!
At least, that's what Eyrie thought. As result, she began working harder than ever – well, I mean there's another reason too: she felt inferior and looked down upon in the eyes of her husband.
Her only two joys in life right now were taking care of her company and visiting her father's mansion – though she naturally preferred the latter.
But because of propriety, she couldn't exactly go to and stay at her maiden family home more often than her husband's house, right?
She only permitted herself to go there thrice a week, no longer than three hours per stay.
Upon returning to her apartment from the cathedral, Eyrie once again returned to her desk, working on some file work. Beside her was a smiling robot with a coffee maker attached to it.
Even on Christmas, her husband didn't return home.
She sighed.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
