"I can not leave." Fei's intense purple and yellow eyes bore into Eyrie's.
The eldest miss of the Rochester household shivered as a chill crept up her spine. She grabbed onto her younger brother's clothes without saying a word.
Fei's expression softened. "Eyrie, please understand, but I can not leave my master's side. I am his bodyguard! What will happen if he gets hurt?!"
At this point, Eyrie stopped shaking. When she looked up, her eyes were one of a ferocious beast's. "What? Are you suggesting that I would hurt Carlos? ME?!"
"N-No, that's not what I mea—"
"HOW DARE YOU?! You are the one that's more likely to hurt him! You MONSTER!"
The young woman panted as she spat out her final words. Mustering up her courage, she stepped in front of Carlos with her grip on her brother's clothes tightening.
The fact that the mutant had purposely interrupted her master's conversation with someone else without any regard for her master's thoughts…
This was the final piece of evidence that Eyrie needed to truly believe that Fei's condition was beyond saving and that the mutant was too dangerous to be kept by her younger brother's side!
Strangely, Fei couldn't find the words to refute Eyrie.
Because her words rang true.
She was indeed, a monster.
Not a human.
She had more capability to hurt him than anyone else.
Her lower lip trembled. "N-No! Master, trust me! I would never hurt you!"
Behind Eyrie, Carlos was overwhelmed. What was happening? What were they talking about? Looking at his sister's trembling shoulders and his bodyguard's pleading eyes, he was in a dilemma.
Didn't Eyrie just want to speak with him about something? Why couldn't Fei hear it? It would be so troublesome to send her away; Fei's limits have never been tested before, so I don't know to what extent can she hear…
It's just a couple of words anyway, so it shouldn't matter that Fei hears or not. I'll just get her to vow that she would never repeat the words she heard; that should be enough.
"Sis…" Carlos had made his decision.
Eyrie's eyebrows loosened as she silently breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that her younger brother would side with her.
But the boy continued. "Sis… It's fine. Fei, just stay outside while sis Eyrie and I talk, okay?"
There was a silence that pervaded over the group.
After a moment of digesting the information, Fei's eyes lit up. "Yes Master!"
Eyrie's expression that had almost fully relaxed froze. "B-But! Carlos!" Her voice was slightly trembling.
The young master of the Rochester family avoided his sister's gaze.
"Come on, Sis." He pulled at her arm while starting to walk back into the lounge.
The eldest miss opened her mouth, but suddenly, she realized that she did not have a place to tell Carlos what to do anymore.
She had already married into a different family, and she didn't spend enough time with her younger brother anymore to be the closest one in his heart.
Lowering her head, she allowed herself to be pulled along into the lounge.
Abruptly, the young woman had begun to question herself again. Was telling Carlos the truth and warning him now the correct thing to do? Would he even believe half of her words? How could he, when he spends all of his time with that mutant? He would never believe that his closest friend would ever hurt him.
But alas, it was already too late.
Despite her woes, Eyrie could only follow along with her initial plan now. It was too late to turn back.
It would be fine, as long as the boy isn't too angry at her.
Facing her younger brother in the closed room, she took a deep breath.
"Carlos, I… have something very important to tell you."
"The truth is… you are not Fei's master."
"Father… he had assigned himself to be her master when he first received Fei, but since Fei had crossed him, which she was not supposed to do, it is apparent that no one in this family is her mast—"
"— So? Why are you telling me this?"
Eyrie was startled by the icy voice interrupting her narrative. She looked up to see Carlos' dark expression that was partially covered by his blond hair.
She bit her lip and continued. "T-This means… that Fei belongs to either the government or some other faction that tricked Father."
"So? Why would I care?"
"Fei is a mutant, and as our family is not protected by the title as her master, if Fei becomes berserk, we would have to deal with the consequences. Other people can also control her to do their bidding, so it is—"
"GET TO THE POINT!"
Eyrie grit her teeth and quickly finished off, "It means Fei is dangerous. She can hurt you. She is unfit to be by your side…"
"…"
"Are you done?"
"Pardon?" The young woman looked up.
"I ASKED YOU IF YOU WERE DONE!"
She flinched, before quickly nodding.
Was this really her younger brother? He seemed so cold, unreasonable, and commanding, unlike his typical sunny and happy-go-lucky attitude.
At this moment, Eyrie was randomly reminded of her father's behavior when he was in a sore mood.
In the past, she had thought that the boy was nothing like that man, but it seemed like she was wrong. Carlos still took after his father.
Carlos' steely emerald eyes stared down at her. "If you are done, then please leave, Eyrie Morgan. I do not need you to care about my matters."
