Shots fired

Alex was sitting in the living room with his parents in a deathly silence. They had been staring at the news channels, hoping it was all a dream. They were trying to digest what had just happened for the previous 15 minutes, all while remaining under the constant noise created by the man outside.

Alex was almost certain that the man outside was a zombie, since he had been trying to break the steel-reinforced door for a while now and had yet to take a break. Such a craze for food was something Alex had seen through his experiences in the fantastical land of Resident Evil.

After locking up everything, and even switching on the electric fence, the three people just sat down in front of the TV, hoping everything was a dream.

Suddenly, Alex remembered that Merlin was still out there and decided to give him a call.

*Ring ring*

After 2 rings, Merlin picked up the phone.

"Hey Merlin! Were are you? Are you safe?"

"Yes! Sheesh. Are you my mother? I'm currently about to enter the Staten Police station. Don't call me again. I will call you. I'm safe so don't worry. BYE!"

'What was that. It sounded like he was in a rush. Wait! He had told me not to make noise at home. Are the zombies attracted towards sound? That may be a possibility. But then, the phone ringing…could it have caused him trouble?

On the other side of the phone, Merlin was cursing his stupidity in his mind. Why did he leave the phone on full ringer mode. Returning it to silent, Merlin looked around and noticed a few figures darting towards him. He prepared himself, tensing up his muscles to release a swift burst of power.

Soon, he had taken care of the dozen zombies that heard his phone ringing, since they did not charge at him together, but instead came like a stream. Almost planning to attack him on at a time, giving Merlin the opportunity to kill them all.

By this point, Merlin had raised most of his stats to 15 and had already evolved to level 2. This happened because he had to kill a of zombies along the way, and had gained a lot of evolution and stat points. With this power, a dozen zombies were nothing to him. Even if he was bitten, he would no longer be infected.

That is the reason why he had already dropped the welder's helmet. He had also changed his weapon from the crowbar to a heavier and linger metal rod, since he could use it with as much ease as the crowbar.

*Bang*

Merlin turned around as he heard the sound of a gunshot. This would no doubt attract more zombies. But it would take around 5 minutes for any to arrive, since he had just cleared the area.

He ran into the building and noticed a dozen zombies in the reception area, all turning around to stare at him.

'F*ck'

Merlin was inwardly cursing his luck.

'Why did there have to be so many zombies here?'

He quickly made a plan and followed it to deal with the group. He would avoid the placed with the most bodies, and instead pick off the easy prey.

Within minutes, the dozen zombies had thinned out to 4. There four were easily dealt with using his superior agility as his greatest weapon. Merlin's tactics were simple, divide and conquer.

With his current strength, he could easily kill 2 zombies in one strike. In a large group, relying on his speed, he could slowly pick of the individual zombies, and then kill off the remaining one, just like he did not.

But he was out of breath and so he decided to take a 20 second break. In this time, he allocated his new stat points.

Getting up, Merlin decided to find the source of the gunshot. Mainly due to the fact that zombies couldn't operate guns. Therefore, a gunshot meant a survivor, and a survivor who was most likely a police officer, and one that could lead Merlin to the arsenal.
