The beach was less crowded than Seo-Yeon expected it to be. She had set her alarm for 6 AM, so that she could arrive at the local beach by 7:30, without the worry of tourists, and traffic. She looked up at the sky, which was not looking good for her.
"Great, rain," she mumbled to herself. She took out her phone, and called her assistant, Kang Dae. "Hey, can you call the clients, and reschedule the photoshoot? The weather doesn't look too good."
"Ah, I just looked at the weather report, and it's going to be light rain on and off," Kang Dae said.
"Yeah, so this isn't going to work. See if they're willing to schedule for next Saturday."
Seo-yeon stood still, facing the ocean. She was the a photographer and had her own business, which was not extremely popular, but was enough to keep food on the table. She was fortunate enough, to have met Kang Dae through her younger brother. He was still in his freshman year of college, and was also majored in photography. He needed the practice, and had begged her brother to plead his case.
*flashback*
"Come on, Yun-Yun! You don't even have to pay him much, he's willing to take less than minimum wage. He just wants the experience, and he knows you're awesome at your job," Hye begged.
"How could he possibly know about my job?" Seo-yeon questioned.
"Well, your pictures from the university festival are still displayed in Professor Kim's office. And he loves to brag that it was featured in the local newspaper."
"Wow, I'm sure he'd be disappointed to find out I didn't become a famous news photographer like he hoped," she cringed, "If he's willing to work for a little amount, at least until the shop gets more customers, he can start this weekend."
Hye beamed in excitement. He loved his friend like a brother, and would fight her if she didn't agree. Besides, could she really turn down the offer? Her shop had been open for about 3 months, and she still hadn't gotten more than two customers. The cost of equipment was hurting her financially, and she could really use the help with advertising.
*Present*
Hiring Kang Dae a year ago was the best decision she ever made. Her brother promised that he would be beneficial, and at first she doubted that. But he proved his worth through, advertising at school, and actually being a good photographer himself. Withing 2 months of hiring him, they already booked for entire month.
As promised, she even began paying him more than minimum wage. He was a huge help, and now as close as a brother. He looked out for her too like a brother does.
Seo-yeon began walking the beach, in hopes of finding inspiration. Although her appointment was cancelled, she still planned on capturing something. The professional in her didn't want to waste the opportunity to capture the beach in all it's solitude.
She wanted to capture a picture of the ocean hitting the rocks, near the lighthouse. She began to walk the steep rocks towards it. The waves continued to splash the rocks, and the wind began to feel heavy. The growling of distant thunder startled her, and she looked into the distance as she took the next step. Not noticing that the next step was much deeper than the other rocks, she screamed in panic.
Her voice cut short as she landed against something solid, yet soft. She had anticipated hitting jagged rocks, or possibly falling into the ocean, but was surprised to feel the softness of someone else.
"Are you ok?" the soft deep voice asked.
Seo-yeon looked up, and nodded dumbly at the man. He was wearing a white ball cap, and black mask. She could only see his eyes, but she could tell he was smiling. She could see enough hair to know that it was brown. Realizing that she was still in his arms, she took a step back.
"Thank you. I should pay more attention to my surroundings."
"Did you need help getting back to the beach?" he asked.
"Uh, no, I was actually gonna take some pictures of the lighthouse, but I probably should count my blessings, and take what I can from this location."
"Oh, you're a photographer?" he asked nervously.
"Yeah, mostly family, and event pictures. I haven't taken landscaping ones in a while." Seo-yeon began to get nervous under his steady gaze. He seemed to be trying to figure her out. Why? She couldn't figure it out.
"Um, well, I should get going. I didn't mean to disturb you," she said, noticing another man standing further back. He too covering most of his face. She hadn't noticed at first, but they must have been fishing, when she fell. Lucky for her, they prevented her impending doom.
"Oh, ok. You sure you don't need help...uh...Miss..." he hesitated.
"Park Seo-yeon. I think I'll be alright. I really appreciate your help, uh...Mr..."
"I'm Jin. It's nice to meet you."
