"This is amazing!" Seo-yeon squealed in excitement.
"We haven't even entered the garden." Jin laughingly pointed out. They stood at the entrance of the garden. The entrance fence was tall and white, with vines beautifully wrapped around. Flowers bloomed on the vines, and the view of a gorgeous waterfountain stood out in the distance. Both of them were captivated by the spectacular sight, and couldn't wait to see the rest. Seo-yeon began to take pictures while Jin silently captured a picture on his phone.
"Ready to actually go in?" Jin asked.
"Yes!" He gently took her hand, and lead her into the garden. They continued their conversation as they explored the landscape. Occassionally they would stop to take pictures. Each time, Jin would claim her hand. Seo-yeon made no attempt to stop him. They spent about an hour walking the garden, the atmosphere different from the lighthouse. They continued the playful banter, but the intimacy changed.
"I think I've taken enough pictures. How about we sit for a bit." Seo-yeon walked towards a gazebo with lights wrapped around the pillars, and decorated with flower pots. A swinging bench stood at the center of the gazebo. She took a seat on the swing placing her bag next to her. Jin continued to stand, leaning against a pillar next to the swing.
"This was definitely worth the fourty minute drive." Jin said.
"It was," Seo-yeon looked up at Jin. They stared at each other's faces, as if trying to memorize every feature. "I know we haven't spent much time together, but I've enjoyed each moment of it."
"Me too."
"I know there's a lot I don't know about you," She looked down at her hands, "and I feel like there's so much you can't tell me. I know whatever the reason, we won't work."
At the touch of hands grabbing hers, she glanced up. Jin was squating in front of her at eye level. Staring into each other's eyes, she could see the sadness that hid behind Jin's gentle smile. She wondered what secrets hid behind those beautiful eyes.
"I have to answer to people regarding my personal life. I know I haven't been honest with you, and I'm sorry for that. I didn't expect this to go anywhere other than friendship."
"You don't have to apologize. I was aware that you were leaving in a few days. The fact that it was a big deal taking your picture should have been my warning to not go any further than the night at the beach house."
"I didn't make it easy for you. I should have kept my distance, but I wanted to spend more time with you," Jin lightly touched her cheek, "There will be a day when you'll understand why I've been so secretive. I just wanted one moment in my life when I can be me, and I'll know the person I like likes me for who I am."
Seo-yeon shyly smiled at his unexpected confession. Although she didn't understand why he couldn't be himself, she was touched that he found her special enough to express himself openly.
"Maybe this isn't the end for us," Jin continued, "Perhaps now just isn't the right time for us."
"Do you really believe there's a chance for us in the future?" She asked skeptically.
Jin inched closer, "I HAVE to believe there is. This can't be the end for us."
He closed the space between them, bringing their lips together. He lightly brushed his lips against hers. At first taken by surprised, she briefly hesitated causing Jin to slightly pull away. They gazed into each other's eyes, amazed by the passion felt through the short kiss. No longer hesitating, they pulled each other into an embrace. Both felt the change in this kiss. It was full of passion...and hope. Even though they feared the possibility that they may never see each other again, each held onto hope that this feeling would never end.
