First Official Test

If a reincarnation slash time travel to the past had a price to pay, why couldn't that guide from before just tell it to her upfront?

Was it hard to inform the involved party first so no surprising thingy like this would happen? So that this involved party would at least feel respected?

It was not like she would be able to protest or anything since she would still accept it. But she would have at least not felt so disregarded.

Zhang Mei Xing had a poker face on the outside, but her inside was quite boiling.

What made her feel absurd was that a soul was thrown to her even though she had no whatsoever idea what to do next.

Well, actually not that she didn't have an idea since a screen just suddenly popped up before her, floating in the air, appearing like a hologram.

Zhang Mei Xing stared blankly at the panel that was still giving off a beautiful bluish glow. The shock was not only because this weird thing popped up, but because written on the screen was her name. And next to it was really the word 'guide', and another word below, inserted in between parentheses, was the word 'examiner'.

Her heart felt heavy for some reason, and a weight too seemed to be placed on her thin shoulders.

'Argggh. Nobody informed me and asked for my opinion. This thing just got thrown to me. I don't even know how they did it!'

Annoyed, but as a person who prided herself in her adaptive personality, she knew going against supernatural things as a powerless person would only be like digging a mountain using a spoon. Whining and complaining too would cause nothing but one's loss of precious time.

"Forget it. I'm already here. Let's just treat this as a payback for the immensely huge favor."

"Let's get this done so I can return to my normal life." She encouraged herself, looking at the pitiful and unresponsive soul before her.

There was nobody to help her navigate the panel. But it was at least user friendly, so she easily managed to get a hang of how to manipulate it. There was even no need to move her fingers in the air, with just but a thought the screen would display what she wanted.

'… It's like a game screen...'

= Yes or Yes =

She was about to check every menu displayed there when the screen froze and a huge pop up appeared, a countdown urging her to press the only button available.

Zhang Mei Xing could only force down the uncomfortable feeling in her heart as she laid eyes on the two choices that were in reality were not really choices. Her finger moved.

But at the last moment, she paused and turned to Xiang Lixin.

"Hello, Miss. Good day to you. Uhmmm... Zhang Mei Xing here."

The other woman was unresponsive but Zhang Mei Xing did not give up and spoke again.

"I am no pushover so before I begin the test, let me first confirm. Are you willing to take part in it to gain a chance to resurrect?"

The girl asked this not only to make sure she was not forcing anyone to something they did not want. It was also because she was someone who knew how to respect everyone's opinion, not like a certain unknown specie.

When the depressed soul who seemed barely aware of her surroundings finally nodded at Zhang Mei Xing, the latter unknowingly exhale. That was when she glanced at the options again. The girl's trembling fingers pressed the button.

People can make plans but it still the supreme being who determines how things would turn out. That was why they said 'Man proposes, God disposes'. In reality, even before someone mapped out plans and schemes in his mind, fate already had something stored for him.

Perhaps, Xiang Lixin's fate had long been determined. At least to the point where she would become Zhang Mei Xin's first examinee and enter a trial world that would decide her soul's destiny.

Because Zhang Mei Xin had no whatsoever idea what would happen after pressing the yes button, she closed her eyes and pressed a hand on her chest.

A moment later, a bright burst of light engulfed them until it disappeared a few seconds later, revealing an empty space with no trace of the two supernatural beings who were supposed to be there.
