Brenton could not take his eyes off the girl. She was mesmerizing the way her hips shook and she rolled her stomach had him captivated. Her eyes met his suddenly and with out really thinking about it he sent out a compulsion spell. Just a very small one nothing that would make her do anything, but try to show off for him.
Suddenly fairy lights blossomed in and around the crowd. The filthy creatures where eating it up cheering madly for her. Brenton had seen much more impressive magic's before breakfast today, but he could admit it had the desired effect to dazzle the crowd. When her dance was over she bowed eyes meeting his once more. He had to admit grudgingly he liked this girl. She would be a mystery to solve at the very least a welcome distraction.
"I will take that one." Brenton said pointing toward the girl. "I will wait at the cliffs for her. You may follow ceremony it is tradition after all. You may talk to my servant for further instructions." Brenton turned and started to walk away, but that nasty human governor dared to touch him grabbing his sleeve.
"Your majesty, I can't give you a Traveler!" The man gasped paling under the fierce look of the Dragon King. " You don't understand my King! They are not of this province or even this race! If I give her to you they will all come here to get her back it will be war!"
Brenton cocked his head to the side bird like as he would in his dragon body.
"They don't seem so fierce. Merchants and performers what could they possibly do?" Brenton scoffed turning to leave again.
"They out number us more than you could know. No one messes with the Traveler's and lives! There was a noble from the east who refused to pay and killed one of them. All of them swarmed his kingdom and left no man alive!" The governor was wheezing with the effort of keeping up with the dragon.
Brenton turned on the man growing in a low rumble.
"Do you think I can't handle some pitiful humans no matter how many there be?" Brenton hoped they would come so maybe he could fight once more.
The governor gulped and stopped following turning to the guards that followed a few steps behind him.
"Bring me the girl. Discreetly, I don't need a riot, because of a dragons arrogance." The governor said sadly looking back towards the girl.
Treasca was selling potions in a stall not far from the stage. She had needed a break after her last performance the lights hadn't been very powerful, so she couldn't tell why she felt so fatigued. Her mother, always a sharp eye, had sent here to sit and rest a few hours. Treasca had sold a good amount of potions actually the crowd had been impressed with her. Most of the people around her stall where young men looking to flirt with her. Treasca smiled and while not rude didn't feed into their amorous advances either. She was helping an elderly couple pick out a rheumatism remedy when five guards surrounded the stall.
"Come with us,..please." The guard said firmly adding the please on after a moment's hesitation. Treasca looked around eyes wide not sure what to do. Her family was no where near her and the crowd was so thick she wasn't sure they would even see the guards. One of the guards gently took her by the arm, and began to lead her away.
"Wait a moment, where are we going?" Treasca asked frantically.
"Do not worry miss you are not in any trouble." The youngest guard soothed and continued walking towards the court house. Treasca could sense something was off, but if she fought back would these men simply kill her where she stood? Treasca glanced around looking for someone anyone from her clan, but she saw no one she knew nearby. Once inside the courthouse the guards led here through large ornate wooden doors.
"Oh good, you found her. Was there any trouble? Did anyone try and stop you?" A fat very well dressed bald man sat behind a massive desk writing something very fast hardly even looking up.
"No your Excellence the Traveler's didn't even see us leave." The lead guard said bowing both arms crossed over his chest.
"Good. Take her to the maids tell them I want her presentable in an hour. That damnedable dragon didn't give us much time." The bald man pinched the bridge of his nose squinting his eyes closed as if his head pained him.
"Yes, Governor Jackson right away, sir." The guard said rising. He signaled the other men leading her away once more.
The guards led Treasca to a room where four uniformed maids waited near a large tub of water. She could seem steam gently rising from it. Why where they bathing her, and why on earth did they bring her of all people here? The maids began to strip her before the guards had barely clicked the heavy door closed. They didn't say a word to her as they pushed her into the tub, and began vigorously scrubbing her. Once she was shampooed, scrubbed, and humiliated beyond belief they dried her and began dressing her in a dress fit for a noble. The dress was pure white silk that flowed around her tied at the waist with a huge white train. There where white silk Roses on the neckline of the gown, and the maid wove a tiara of real white roses into her now curled hair.
"Seems like a waste for dragon food." One maid said as they stood back looking her over. They all looked at her with pitying glances.
" Better an outsider than us." Another answered reaching for ornate shoes of white lace. They sat her down and tied them to her feet. They nodded approvingly then without warning one of them pressed a rag soaked in a chemical smelling liquid over Treasca's mouth and nose. As she was losing consciousness Treasca her a maid say "Apparently this one has magic." before her world went dark.
