Two Too Many

Treasca squirmed trying to free herself from Brenton's tight embrace. She had to admit she was rather happy to see the Dragon even if he was embarrassing her infront of Dane. She hugged him back despite herself. Dane looked dumb founded by Brenton's proclamation of being King of Dragon's. It was true she supposed, but it seemed rather arrogant of Brenton to throw the information around in front of openly hostile strangers.

"Brenton, let me breathe." She said patting him on the back. Brenton kept hold of her arms, but stood away from her examining her.

"What did he do?" Brenton asked again voice full of fury. Tears welled in Treasca's eyes she tried to look away to hide them, but Brenton caught her by the chin and gently turned her face to look at him. A sob escaped her, and she threw herself back into his arms not caring who saw her. He murmured comforting sweet nothings to her as she sobbed soaking his shirt. She had actually missed him she realized startling herself back from despair some how he made her feel safe despite how he had come into her life. She looked up at his face, he was watching something over her head. She let go of him turning to see what he watched so warily. Dane stood like an angry mountain face beet red with fury.

"Dane, this is Brenton he is a dear friend of mine." Treasca said not sure how else to explain her relationship with the Dragon. Brenton stiffened at her saying he was merely a friend, but did not correct her.

Dane's angry eyes flashed to her then. He was jealous she realized a blush creeping across her cheeks. She had all, but agreed to wed him and yet she had embraced another man in front of him. Granted not entirely voluntary, but she had returned the hug. Brenton began to chuckle behind her. He must have came to the same conclusion she had. Treasca elbowed him in the stomach making him grunt. He stopped his giggling though and bowed soberly to Dane.

"I believe I owe you a debt of gratitude for saving Treasca. I was searching everywhere for her after the feind had stolen her. I feared I would be to late to save her." Brenton bowed elegantly eyes now sparkling with amusement.

"And how exactly did Treasca come to know the King of all Dragon's? No one has even seen one of your kind in hundreds of years." Dane's anger seemed to be replaced by suspicion. Brenton cocked his head to the side examining Dane like a bird of prey might a mouse.

"That is of little consequence to you Traveler I assure you. We are going to be on our way. I thank you again for seeing to her safety and your heroic rescue. I will see that you are rewarded, but we must be going." Brenton said starting to lead Treasca away. Dane grabbed Treasca's other arm snarling at the dragon like a dog.

"Her family is on her way here to retrieve her, so where pray tell do you think you are taking her?" Dane looked like he had in the den of the Shade ready to attack.

"Her family is coming here, well that is a happy reunion I am sure, but I am afraid it is for her safety I am taking her back to my castle." Brenton responded pulling Treasca back against him. She was starting to get angry herself at this point.

"She will be safe here with her own people." Dane responded hotly still gripping her arm.

"I am sorry to say meer mortals are not going to be able to keep her safe like I can." Brenton sniffed.

"We aren't the ones who lost her in the first place, and it was I who saved her from that monster." Dane retorted eyes flashing. Brenton froze examining the big man with what seemed to Treasca an ounce of respect. Brenton cocked his head again a habit from his Dragon form she supposed and seemed to be considering Dane's words.

"What was your name again?" Brenton asked voice calm.

"Dane son of the leader of the Travelers." Dane snapped hostility barely contained.

"So you are a prince of Travelers." Brenton said nodding. Dane said nothing in response just continued to glare angerly. Brenton bowed to him then wrapped an arm around Treasca's waist twisting so Dane's hold broke. With a sound like a pop they where gone appearing in Brenton's study. Treasca whirled to yell at Brenton just as the Dragon collapsed on the floor.

"Delyn!" Treasca yelled in panic kneeling at Brenton's side. He was very pale, but seemed unharmed.

"I am ok." He croaked. "It just took a large amount of energy to transport us back without a gate." He sat up hand on his head shaking it as if to clear it.

"Why, why did you do that?" She asked tears spilling down her cheeks. " They where coming, I was going to get to see my family. Why would you take me from them?" He watched her sadly.

" You are not safe in the open. You are not even safe here now. We will not be staying more than a few moments. We need to get the victims to Alonian, then we need to go. Your family is not safe being near you for now, but I swear I will kill that Shade and you may see them again." Brenton said a fierce look in his eyes. Treasca had not thought of the potential danger she may pose to her family. What if the Shade had done something to her without her knowing? Sadly she nodded Brenton was right.
