It's quarter to four and I've been waiting for someone to send me home. Mother told me that she can't fetch me from school because she's too busy making some money.
"Sophie, no one will send you home?" I can't recognize her voice but the way she asks me, it seems she knows me very well. "Perhaps! Mother told me that she's busy, so I'm going home by myself. Why?" I lowered down my head, disappointed and a little bit unhappy.
I always play with my fingers while waiting. "I can help you! Let's go, it's getting darker now Sophie." She told me. I'm comfortable talking with her, but Xian told me that he's going to send me home today.
I gulped, I don't know if I will accept it or reject her offer.
"Ah, I wanted to, but Xian told me to wait here," I replied in a low and gentle voice.
She cleared her throat like she caught someone doing something illegal. "You mean Xian Montefalcon?" She asked me surprisingly. I nodded and said, "Why?" I lifted up my head and turn my head as I can see her.
"Poor Sophie. Xian is a jerk!" The girl uttered, snickering. "He told me that!" I raised my voice, I know that Xian is not playing with me. I know that he is real! I know that he will never break his promise.
"And you believe and trusted him? Sophie, in this cruel world no one will never give attention to a girl who's poor, have nothing, and blind. I'm not underestimating you as a person but look at the reality Sophie, open your eyes and hear the roaring crying of world."
I tried not to look emotional but I can't help it! I thought he's different. I thought he's real. I thought, at least, there is someone who cares for me but, at the end of the day, Xian is only bored and he saw me, as his new playtime.
"Stop it!" I stood up, trembling, and can't believe with this lies.
"I'm not lying to you, and for your information, I saw Xian with Yna at the gate. Sophie, Xian will send her home and you will be exhausted, waiting for nothing."
I embraced my pity and hopeless self, I couldn't tolerate this kind of pain, this eagerness I felt. I'll stop it, before it's too late.
"Please, I want to go home now." I murmured.
I don't have the right to feel this way, but crap! I can't stop myself, thinking about Xian and Yna. Of course, I know the rumor that Xian and Yna will be married after college. They look together, for sure. Yna comes from a very wealthy and popular lineage and Xian too.
I heard a lot from quidnuncs, I have no doubt either. Xian will learn to fall in love with her, as Kate said to me. "Kate is a Goddess type of girl. She's tall, she has a pinkish fair skin, her long, shiny black hair was braided beautifully with a ribbon on the end of it. Her big brown eyes, down to her pointed nose and her white, perfect set of teeth, her crimson thin lips, and her chin. Yna was blessed with a big chest and her waist was too small, her belly was flat and her butt was big. In other words, Yna is perfectly imperfect, Sophie."
I recalled that very first day that I hear the girl named Yna. Kate and I are standing at the entrance when someone dumped me, my books fell down to the ground and Kate told me that the shake she was holding threw into her uniform but she never apologizes with her carelessness.
"Goodness! Look what you've done with my uniform!" Yna shouted at me at that time, too late to realize that I'm blind.
"It's not Sophie's fault, Yna. She's blind so you should the one who adjusted, not her." I tried to stop Kate, but she's too unstoppable.
"Blind? How the hell? You're not supposed to be here, blind girl! If I were you, I'll transfer to SPED immediately." Yna told me sarcastically.
I was taken aback that day, I felt so small, I felt so underestimated. I felt humiliated.
"If I were you, I'll be going to transfer to a school wherein students who lacks respect and discipline will be taught, one by one. Certain by certain." I answered back.
Yes, I'm blind. But, I can't let someone hurt me or even take my dignity away from me. Never!
I didn't waste my time for her answer, I grab Kate's wrist and let her guide the way.
"Let's go now, Sophie! It looks like raining anytime." I came back to my senses when she grabs my arms and forcing me to walk.
I wanted to wait for Xian but I need to stop this nonsense. He will never be my friend or more than a friend.
I clasped her back, following her steps.
"Won't it be nice to run at this time, Sophie?" She asked me, walking so fast like there was werewolf following us.
"I don't think so, there a chance that I'll stumble," I replied. "Wait, I felt an insect sipping my blood at my back!" I get off my hands and let her scratch her back.
It took her too long to get rid of that attention-seeker insect. "Hey!" I screamed out of nowhere, I don't know where I am. I don't know where she took me.
"Heeey! Is anybody here?" I added.
I sit down and put my face on my knees. I heard nothing except the sound of the lonely sky. She's right, it will rain anytime soon.
This is not my lucky day, because I've been bullied twice and someone broke his promise. Nothing can ease this painful experience, no one can help me. No one!
I cried out alone, until I felt raindrops fell into my hands.
"Even the sky is lonely, just like me," I uttered and the rain became too aggressive.
"In the name of life, I still believe that God will give me "my lucky day".
Until I fell into the wet ground, and darkness embraced me, hurt, and maim within.
**
I still thinking about what occurred earlier, f*ck! What a shame scene! Until now, I can't think properly because of Sophie. Her beautiful reaction, when I give her a necklace.
Good thing that I'd never put it somewhere. That necklace means a lot to me, it has a sentimental value in it.
"Xian! Are you even listening to me?" I turned my head at Mom, gaping, and clueless. "Ye... Yes!" I chuntered.
"Goodness! Seven years from now, you and Yna will be married. Please, listen to me!" Mom raised her voice at me.
I don't like Yhen, she's too desperate. "I will not be going to marry her, Mom! I don't like such a despondent and forlorn girl!" I replied furiously.
Although she's my mother, I can't force myself to love someone like Yna. I can't obey all the things she wanted for me, or for her personal reasons.
"Whether you like it or not, you're going to marry Yna!" Mom looked at me desperately. She's really determined and certain with that thing.
I stood up and looked away, "I love someone else, and I am willing to sacrifice myself for her, and no one can stop me, even you, Mom!" That's the only way I can stop Mom with her illusions.
In the name of life, I'll pursue what I love to do, I'll love someone eternally. I'll reach my dreams and me pursuits it no matters what it takes.
I looked up at the wall clock and I uttered profanity, seeing the time. Sophie! She's waiting for me.
"I need to go! Excuse me Mom!" I kissed her cheek before leaving. "Xian! We're not yet done!" Mom shrieked out but I didn't turn my back at her.
"Sophie, wait for me," I uttered and the rain starts falling to the ground.
F*ck! I'm on the last floor of the building and Sophie's room is on the first floor. I run as fast as I can until I reach her room.
"Sophie?"
"Soooophie?"
I hysterically called Sophie, but I can't find her. F*ck! This is all my fault. I run towards the school's oval, wet, and cold. If something bad happened to Sophie, I will never forgive myself for breaking my promise. I'm such a jerk!
"Soooophieeeee? Where are youuu?"
My voice echoed, still, no one answered.
I searched Sophie, I'm too worried. The downpour didn't stop and it's literally dark outside.
"Sophie!" I uttered. Sophie was lying in a grassy ground, unconscious and cold. I carried Sophie into my car, she's been there for about two hours.
"Xian!" I heard Sophie murmured. I tucked away some strands of Sophie's hair and stared at her angelic face for so long. "Why you're making me like this, Sophie?" I told her, cupping her soft cheeks.
I looked away and I started the engine.
"Hold on, Sophie. You will be at home." I said, looking at the road. Desperate to send Sophie's home, safe and sound.
