Strange Clubs

"Hey guys, do you have any talents for the welcome party?"

On their way back to the dormitory, He Tianfang started asking Qin Yang and the others for their thoughts. "We have four classes in the English Department. There's at least a hundred ladies. If we can showcase some of our talents this time, it will be easier to find a girlfriend."

Qin Yang shook his head without hesitation and refused. "I'm not joining. I don't have any talent."

He Tianfeng looked at Qin Yang suspiciously. "Are you kidding me? I feel like you always have something to hide, just like when we were at the bar. If someone hadn't bullied you, we wouldn't know that you were that powerful?"

This time, He Tianfeng's doubt was not wrong. Qin Yang had followed his master for many years; not only did he learn about martial arts, he even learnt some medicine. Whatever weird and miscellaneous skills that Qin Yang's master knew, he would teach Qin Yang.

Qin Yang was young and is in his best state for learning. His training allowed him to have ears like a cat and eyes like a rodent. It has also given him a stronger memory which makes it more efficient and adept at learning. Therefore, Qin Yang could say that he was rudimental at many things, including having a fundamental knowledge of the lyre, Go, calligraphy, and even painting. However, it also wouldn't be a lie if he said he was not proficient at anything.

"Just give this opportunity to others. Third Bro and Fourth Bro, what about you two?"

Lin Zhu pushed his glasses up and smiled. "Forget about me. I'm just a techie. I'm good at nothing else but computers."

Sun Xiaodong was keen to try but he was still hesitant. "I'm not sure what I can do."

As soon as He Tianfeng heard that Sun Xiaodong was interested, he also immediately became interested. "What are you good at? Can you sing or play the piano? Maybe play the Erhu?"

Sun Xiaodong shook his head. "Nah, I can't do those but I trained in Taekwondo for a few years."

"Taekwondo?"

He Tianfeng froze for a moment, then snapped his fingers. "Nice! But how good are you?"

Sun Xiaodong felt bashful and scratched his head. "Not bad, I guess. Now, I'm at the red-black level, just a level below a black belt. But high school was intense, so I stopped training."

He Tianfeng's eyes lit up in excitement. "Red-black belt! That's great! No wonder you could easily knock them down at the bar. I thought you were just relying on your sturdy body, but here you are, a Taekwondo master!"

He Tianfeng grinned. "A Taekwondo performance would be very cool. The ladies would love it a lot. It's a deal! I'll submit your Taekwondo show. We can hold the boards for you to show off your cool moves!"

Sun Xiaodong already wanted to practice as soon as He Tianfeng finished speaking. He grinned and said, "Okay, let's try that."

He Tianfeng patted Sun Xiaodong's shoulder. "Just do your best. If you put up a cool performance, you'll be famous. Then, I'll brag about you when we party with beautiful girls!"

Qin Yang couldn't help but laugh when he heard the conversation between the two. Taekwondo and other martial arts were nothing to Qin Yang. But for ordinary people, being a red-black belter in Taekwondo was already close to being a master. It was only one level below the coveted black belt, which was cool and dazzling for college students.

They settled things in this manner. In the afternoon, the class monitor asked for some volunteers to hand out all of their books. Their class would begin later in the evening.

Their schedule also came out. The course load per week was not too much. There were some courses from Monday to Friday but their schedule was relatively loose. There was always some free time every day and there were no classes on weekends. In short, everyone had a lot of free time.

Qin Yang had not gone to high school before, so his English basics were not good. Compared to other students, Qin Yang would be the worst. That was why he needed to learn from scratch and catch up with everyone else's progress.

Qin Yang bought a computer, a pair of headphones, and other things online. It is easy to learn English now. He just downloaded various apps on his mobile phone and listened to them while wearing his headphones.

Although Qin Yang also intended on moving out, he had just entered university, so he still planned to immerse himself in his university life.

The purpose of going to university was not just about studying. Life as a university student was probably something he would miss. If only there weren't any factors affecting his practice and such, Qin Yang would rather live in the dormitory. Wasn't it lively for several people to stay together?

The four of them walked to the dining hall together. Many people were pulling up various banners and setting up and tables when they arrived.

"The Go Club of Zhonghai University, you're welcome to join us!"

"Table Tennis Club, you are welcome here!"

"Basketball Club, for the hard-working youth!"

"Taekwondo Club, your smartest choice!"

Under the various banners, seniors introduced their clubs to interested students. The place looked lively and busy.

Qin Yang observed the activities for a short while and smiled. "It's so busy here. Are the clubs recruiting new members?"

Lin Zhu pushed his glasses and smiled. "Yeah. Freshmen like us have just registered yesterday, so the major clubs are eager to quickly recruit new members. There's no limit on how many clubs we can join, but our time and energy is limited. We can only do so much, so we will only be able to choose a few clubs to join. That's why these clubs are recruiting new students as soon as possible."

Qin Yang smiled and said, " But aren't clubs something like a hobby? Aren't they too excited?"

Lin Zhu smiled. "In other schools, the students would probably just join clubs so they can spend their free time on their hobbies. Some clubs in Zhonghai University indeed only serve as a hobby hub. However, some clubs are different."

Qin Yang asked in curiosity. "How are they different?"

"Those clubs adhere to the school's concept that our university is like a society. The existence of clubs or organizations in society is definitely not just a matter of interest. When people become part of society, they will want to achieve something and the organizers will want to get something in return."

Lin Zhu expounded casually. "For example, there are badminton clubs, bar groups, and more. Once people join an organization, that organization's members can enjoy certain privileges such as getting discounts for certain services, which they wouldn't get to have if they weren't a part of that organization. Then the organizers collaborate with other businesses to make a profit by organizing group events, filling price differences, or returning consumption points."

Sun Xiaodong interjected, "Do members need to pay membership fees?"

"Yes, there is also a difference between paying more and paying less. Naturally, if you pay less, you will get fewer privileges. If you pay the premium price, you will get better deals. The organizers also seek sponsorships and join in on some social activities for funds so they can execute their planned events."

"This is just like for ordinary clubs. There are even clubs that only attract elites. Their members are mostly second-generation rich kids with a certain amount of influence or strong capabilities. Some people call it resource integration, meaning that it maximizes the rational use of resources. They are targeting not just those from universities, but also those who are already a part of society."

"Many of them already started a business while they were still in school. Although this sounds unbelievable, some of them have already earned millions…"

T/N:

As discussed in the last chapter, they started calling each other by nicknames according to their ages.

Qin Yang - As the oldest, his nickname is "Eldest Bro". He Tianfeng seems to have already labeled him as "boss" which unintentionally goes well with his previous reputation

He Tianfeng - Second Bro (the term in Chinese is a slang word for penis)

Sun Xiaodong - Third Bro

Lin Zhu - Fourth Bro
