"Is that so?" The man circled Xiao Jing twice, before continuing, "But you guys just took out thirteen of ours. That doesn't appear to be a very friendly way of greeting us."
"Then you ought to count yourself lucky. You could very well have ended up being the fourteenth," said Xiao Jing, as she gracefully grabbed hold of the muzzle of his gun.
The man did not hesitate to fire a shot.
The muzzle of the gun was pointed upwards, and the shot had been a blank.
Xiao Jing grazed his bulletproof suit with her dagger but barely left a mark on the high-quality suit.
The man gave up on his gun, deftly aiming a punch at Xiao Jing's waist instead.
Xiao Jing stumbled backward upon the impact and rubbed the right side of her waist with a frown on her face. With her current physical strength, there was no way she would be able to defeat the veterans from the elite forces. She could only hope to win them using her brain.
"Come at me again," said the man, as he rotated his wrists, and beckoned Xiao Jing with his finger.
Xiao Jing got a flash of inspiration as she looked at the bubbling stream behind the man. She was feeling somewhat better, thanks to the light breeze, which had helped to alleviate the balmy heat of the jungle.
The man rubbed his palms and got ready to launch an offensive. "Since you don't dare to make a move, it's now my turn."
Seeing that the man was looking at her menacingly, Xiao Jing grabbed hold of a tree branch with both hands, then climbed onto it like a monkey.
She then swung from that tree branch to another big tree and hugged its trunk as she slid down the tree.
The man noticed the direction in which she was escaping and quickly went after her.
Standing before the stream, Xiao Jing watched the huge creature which was currently sunbathing in the water. She then picked up a rock from the ground, and unceremoniously threw it at the beast, shouting, "Wake up, it's mealtime."
The crocodile revealed half of its head from the surface of the water and coldly observed the human who had just provoked it.
"D*mn you." The man could not help stumbling backward at the sight of the crocodile.
Xiao Jing grabbed hold of a tree branch again, planning to make her escape while the man was distracted.
"Grr...grr." The crocodile climbed out of the water angrily, and swung its tail, causing Xiao Jing, who had failed to make her escape, to fall to the ground.
Xiao Jing fell to the ground and got a mouthful of soil.
The crocodile growled and swung its claws in the air as it started making its way towards the two of them.
Xiao Jing rolled over twice on the spot and deftly avoided the crocodile claw. She pulled the rope off her backpack and wrapped it around its jaw. She climbed on top of the crocodile and stabbed at its mouth with her dagger.
"Get out of the way!" shouted the man as he threw a tear gas bomb.
Smoke started circling them and the stream, and the billowing smoke that had risen was visible as far as ten miles away.
"Commander, something happened over there," said Jiang Feng as he put down his binoculars. He was watching the thickening smoke with an anxious expression on his face. It was probably a big group, and the other party might have dozens of people.
Mo Luo, who was very conscious of his sweat-drenched clothes, remained motionless. He was trying to track down their enemy. As soon as he figured out where they were, he would immediately fire a barrage of shots at them.
"Should we retreat, Commander?" Jiang Feng suggested.
"To hell with retreating. Even if there's just one of us left, we still have to forge forward. It would be a disgrace if people heard about how the formidable Zhan Yi had been completely wiped out without even laying a finger on their opponents."
"Have you discovered any suspicious persons?" Jiang Feng asked wryly as he turned on the receiver again.
"Deputy Commander, there's activity within five miles of the coordinates," reported the person on the other end of the receiver.
Jiang Feng opened the map with a frown on his face. Wasn't that where the smoke was coming from? "Everyone stay where you are and wait for orders. Xiao Sheng, go check it out," he said hurriedly.
"Yes, Deputy Commander." Qi Sheng quickly headed towards the spot.
"Boom!"
Qi Sheng halted in his tracks when he saw a bullet coming his way. He threw himself to the ground and continued rolling until he found cover behind a big tree.
He then mounted his sniper rifle and carefully observed his surroundings. The woods had become unusually quiet, and he could not hear anything else. It was deadly silent.
"Go back and tell your Commander that the biggest mistake he ever made in his entire life was to conduct his training on Steel Eagle territory." A phantom voice rang out in the woods.
There was nothing and no one when Qi Sheng turned around to look behind him.
Suddenly, he felt something cold pressed against his neck. He blinked, and the moment he tried to make a move, he found his body flying into the air and a bullet hitting him on his chest where his heart was. At that moment, it truly felt as if he were going to die.
Shen Chengfeng hurried over to the stream after taking care of Qi Sheng.
The smoke caused by the tear gas bomb had yet to disperse, so the stream was shrouded in a mist, creating the illusion that one was in fairyland.
Xiao Jing covered her mouth and nose with one hand as she emerged from the fog. She was coughing hard as her body attempted to remove the poison from her lungs.
"Commander."
"Was it fun?" he asked casually.
"Mm, it was pretty fun," Xiao Jing answered. She watched him from about three meters away, her face flushed and a smile spreading across her face.
