Too Late

"Chu Hua, why did you come back?"

Chu Hua gulped and her eyes darted nervously around the room.

"Well, my mom died and I have no purpose in staying there anymore. So, I came back."

Lu Chenjun's eyes narrowed, "Tell me the truth."

"That is the truth."

'She really is hopeless,' Lu Chenjun thought as he leaned back.

"Okay, then let me help you say the truth. A little over a month ago, your mom passed out due to drug overdose. When you returned to your apartment, you realized she was still breathing. But what did you do? You waited. You waited until she wasn't breathing anymore. Then you brought her over to the hospital."

Chu Hua was shivering and she refused to make any eye contact with Lu Chenjun.

Lu Chenjun had just received this information not too long ago. When he heard about this, his heart already gave up on Chu Hua. He had kept a distance from Chu Hua the past few days as whenever he saw her, he felt disgusted.

"How do you know about this?" Chu Hua's voice trembled as she sneaked a glance at Lu Chenjun.

"What did I say? You are no longer the same person you were nine years ago, but you're not the only person that can change. I am no longer the powerless, stupid little boy I was nine years ago. I can have almost every shred of information about you delivered to me in a minute."

Chu Hua's knees felt weak and she fell onto the hard ground. Lu Chenjun thought about stopping, but he continued. Since he already chose to start, he wasn't going to stop until he exposed everything.

"You never would have guessed that the son of the family living across from you would have seen you when you were standing there, waiting for your mother to die. How can you do that to your mother?"

Chu Hua wanted to reply, but Lu Chenjun quickly cut her off.

"Don't be so impatient. There's more. Do you think I don't know why you came back? Your mom died and you don't have a job. So, you chose to come back and rely on me. At first, I was fine with this, as I thought that you still loved me, even just the tiniest bit. However, now, I realize that you don't love me at all. You love my money."

Chu Hua was stunned. She had put so much effort into hiding this from him. There was no way he could have figured it out. Chu Hua knew that it was too late.

"Wait! I can tell you, I will tell you anything!" Chu Hua was desperate, she couldn't just lose like this.

"Too late." Lu Chenjun replied, standing up again.

Chu Hua knew better than anyone why she came back to the Jin Province. What Lu Chenjun said was true.

Sure, Chu Hua had true feelings for Lu Chenjun when they were young. However, life hasn't been easy for her. The harsh experiences she had to encounter in these nine years have shaped her into a woman that only desires wealth and power. She has learned that money is the only way to a comfortable life above others.

The fastest route to her goal was through Lu Chenjun. Her old feelings for Lu Chenjun have faded, but that doesn't mean she doesn't want him anymore. She couldn't let him just go to another woman like this.

Lu Chenjun realized the door was locked, and he looked back at Chu Hua for a second with coldness and disgust in his eyes.

Chu Hua crawled over to him on all fours, "Wait! You can't blame me. Can't you think about what I had to go through the past nine years? You will never understand!"

Chu Hua was only left with the pity card, and she hoped that Lu Chenjun would buy it.

Instead, he scoffed, "Was life easy for Elena? What did Elena have to go through? However, she still maintains a good and healthy mentality about life. That is the difference between you and her. Don't blame anything or anyone for what is happening to you right now. No one forced you to take this path. Not your parents, not fate, only you. You chose to go down this path, Chu Hua."

Chu Hua was trembling as she shook her head vigorously.

"Life isn't easy for anyone. Only a few actually get to live a carefree and easy life. However, everyone gets to choose how they face and respond to the situation. Chu Hua, learn to swallow your pride. You aren't as smart as you think you are."

Lu Chenjun's expression softened a little, "Smart woman like Yinghui would choose to leave a good last impression in a man's mind. Even if I stayed blinded and chose you, I would still feel remorse and look back on the memories with Elena as something happy and beautiful."

His face darkened as he looked down at the quivering figure, "However, you ruined everything for yourself. You completely destroyed your image in my mind before leaving. That's not something a smart person would do. Don't be too shameless, Chu Hua."

Chu Hua was in shock after Lu Chenjun finished. He looked towards the clock and then looked down at Chu Hua.

"You can leave tomorrow morning if you want. It's getting late today. Elena has work tomorrow, so you can save yourself some pride by packing and leaving yourself."

Chu Hua's gaze rested on Lu Chenjun's handsome but cold face and she broke into a sweat. She definitely can't give up now.

"I'm not leaving! I won't leave!" Chu Hua screamed like a crazy person.

Lu Chenjun knit his eyebrows together and curled his lips in disdain.

"Are you sure you're not going to leave by yourself?" At this moment, Lu Chenjun hated himself more than he hated Chu Hua.

He can't believe he was stupid enough to waste so much time these past few weeks on Chu Hua.

It was impossible to hide the slight quaver in her voice as she said, "I'm not leaving."

"Okay," Lu Chenjun slipped out of Chu Hua's grasp and left the room, leaving Chu Hua alone to cry on the cold, hard ground.

Back inside Lu Chenjun's room, he called the housekeeper of the mansion next to their house.

Originally, Lu Chenjun and his family all lived in the mansion. However, just a year ago, Lu Chenjun built the smaller house he is staying in right now as he didn't like living by himself in the huge mansion with only the workers and the servants.

Even when his parents came over to the mansion to live with him, he became the third-wheeler. Although they have been married for over 20 years already, they were still deeply in love. They completely disregarded their son when he was around.

The housekeeper angrily woke up and looked at the clock. Who is calling at such a late time? His attitude immediately changed when he saw the number shown on the screen. President Lu?

"Hello, President Lu? Why are you calling at such a late time?"

"Hello, I need your help. Can you send three male workers from the mansion over to help pack some things up?"

The housekeeper stood up from his bed, "Right now?"

"Is there a problem?" Since Chu Hua didn't want it, Lu Chenjun wasn't going to leave her any face.

"No! I will send three workers over right away!"

Lu Chenjun hung up the phone and exited his room. Chu Hua's door was closed, but the sound of her sobs could still be heard.

Lu Chenjun walked into Elena's room and saw that she was already sleeping.

He smiled at the sight of Elena's slightly opened mouth as she slept peacefully. He sat down at the edge of the bed and stared at Elena.

He ran his fingers gently down her hair and his smile grew bigger. He had made the right decision.

'Love is when you are extremely happy and excited when you see that person. She holds the string connected to your heart. She will be the only person that could move it.'

This feeling was so familiar. Nine years ago, when Chu Hua agreed to be his girlfriend, he had felt like this. However, he hasn't felt this even once towards Chu Hua the past few weeks. Now, he only feels disgusted around her.

Lu Chenjun tensed up when Elena suddenly started turning her body around, but he relaxed after seeing that she was still asleep.

After a while, Lu Chenjun heard the sound of footsteps going up the stairs. He frowned at the loud sound, what if it woke Elena up?

Lu Chenjun stood up and planted a small kiss on Elena's cheek. He had broken the first rule.
