"Geez, my throat feels dry."
She coughed and stood up from the bed, feet on the warm carpet. Someone thrust cold glass filled with water on her lips and she steadily drank the liquid, it relieved her throat.
"Thanks..."
It dragged on when she studied the surrounding. It wasn't her home sweet home and looked up at the guy standing in front of her. She had seen this raven head guy somewhere, had she? He looked familiar.
"Um... am I at your place?"
He nodded and took the empty glass from her. She facepalmed remembering how drunk she was last night and no wonder she might have hooked up with this guy or not. She wished the latter. She looked at him through her fingers, he was pouring another glass of water. Suddenly she recognized him.
"You crazy girl? That boy is dangerous! He beats up guys bulkier than his size like a mad dog, there wasn't a time they didn't leave with broken bones."
Lea's words edged in her mind, the way she had exclaimed so loudly.
He passed her the glass and she took a sip from it. "Well... I think I should leave now." She laughed awkwardly, keeping the glass aside as she stood.
"You are scared of me."
His statement sent chills down her spine and she paused, how did he assume that. She was only a few inches away from the door, if only she could take two steps, she could run away from this awkwardness.
"Of course no duh." She chooses to stay, she wasn't actually scared of him. He didn't give her any odd vibes to make her hide like her friend. "I don't really know about you and I can't judge you according to someone's perception."
That soothe him down but of course, she couldn't read him as he could.
"Get to know me because I want to know you."
For some reason the way he spoke, it felt like those were orders but on the other hand, she thought he might just want to be friends.
"Sure !" She narrowed her eyes, not really meaning it.
Could it be a mistake to befriend some classic rich boy with violent nature but also someone who is alone?
Why would it be?
It wasn't a mistake after all.
She thought, not sure that she was about to be tangled deep into the dark world of his.
"Rebus Schwarz."
Is that his name? She thought it was quite an difficult one. Lea did tell her before, though he was one of the hottest guys on the campus, no one really knows his name. Even the professor wouldn't call his name out loud. Strange as hell.
"(name) and wow your house is massive."
He gestured her to follow him down the impressive staircase and the walls and ceiling were painted like the ancient homes of the greek.
"My mother used to love greek culture."
Well, that explained a lot, there were even greek figures standing at the sides like a beautiful showpiece. Strangely she didn't spot another being other than them inside.
"You live alone?"
He opened another door and guided her into the dining room. The dining room was far more luxurious than she had seen on the TV. About twenty or more chairs were kept around the large dinning table yet the room still looked so spacious. He pulled out a chair for her and she kindly accepted it. The mouth-watering smell of freshly baked bread hit her nose and the urge to stuff it in the mouth, she controlled herself. He took the seat at the head of the table, right next to her. He pours the milk and gesture her to eat anything on the table. She didn't refuse as she set some delicious looking bread on the plate and started chomping. He choose only to drink his black bitter coffee, through the side he watched her gingerly.
Just as he thought...
(Name) and he was parallel.
"You are not going to have anything?"
He lifted the cup in his hand, she just nodded. He must be fed up with silver platter, she thought grimly.
By noon, they were heading out of his house and she quietly followed inside his shiny range rover.
"Where are we heading-Oh wait my address-"
"My father called."
Family businesses first
His curt replies were killer of any conversation. It was short but on the point, if one could understand it. She gulped, this was his own mansion and his father had home somewhere else? The rumours about him being stinky rich weren't false at all maybe more than they exaggerated.
He drove through the gates and speed away on the highway for ten minutes till they entered another huge premises. It was one of the billionaire Jason Schwarz's lavish home located a few miles away from the town and not only her but everyone in the town knew that. Jason was a big shot and his mansion looked more like a royal's castle. He parked right in front of the door.
"Can I wait in the car?"
He looked at her, those eyes searching for something. He nodded and walked outside. Immediately she saw the huge polished door open and women around her forties come through the door, embracing him in a warm hug. That women looked incredibly gorgeous, her long wavy brown lock of hair dangling and hugging her waist in a beautiful manner. She had soft ocean eyes.
Could it be his mother?
She pondered. Just then, the women looked at her direction and then whispered something in his ear.
Craving sweet
"Who is she, honey?"
He rolled his eyes, strode inside the house leaving her behind.
"Deine neue Frau ist nervig!" He complained sitting on the other side of the couch from his father. The old man only smiled. "Vergiss es, deine Überraschung-"
He was interrupted by his wife.
"English, please! I need to hear it too."
He just laughed and nodded while she sat beside him.
"I have promoted your position in my company as the CEO!" More than his wife and son, he was excited. "Vanessa, isn't it a good decision?"
The woman was startled. "O-Oh yes. Rubus can shoulder such a huge responsibility? "
Rubus narrowed his eye at her, he could read the lines on her face. Too fake. Nonetheless, he stood up and took his father's congratulation hug.
"Thank you." He said solemnly.
He didn't really want it.
"Well, we will have a huge party next week for your promotion here. I want you to be present and so will be your relatives."
He nodded before walking out.
"Hubby you sure to give such responsibility to him- I mean he's just nineteen."
"Vanessa it seems you don't know my son. He is an excellent player in every field I thrust him at. His abnormal behaviour is a lucky charm for me."
Vanessa frowned.
"Wow, your back?"
He nodded getting inside the car and starting the engine. It has always been like this, the father and son never really talked about anything other than business.
"Address?"
She gave him her address.
"You know..." she had been itching to tell him as he began to drive through her neighbourhood. "You should talk more rather curtly answering." There was sudden silence and she thought if she might have said a little too much
"Correct me."
She looked at him wildly. "W-What?"
Very unexpected.
"Correct everything you feel wrong about me. I will accept it."
He was more willing to change than she had thought he would.
"Why- sure dude! I would gladly." She breathes happily. He stopped the car and within a second he was on her side, opening the door for her.
"Thanks."
He nodded. He turned around about to go to the other side but her small 'wait' stopped him. It was sudden, the air around him had stopped and nothing seemed to be real. The honking cars, the shuffling noise of the trees and people passing by, they all seemed to disappear. She had come back to him, resting her small hands on his shoulder, she tiptoed and gave a warm kiss at his cheek.
"See you soon!" She waved back, entering her apartment.
He gulped feeling something stir within his chest. He couldn't put a name on it. He stayed frozen on the spot for few seconds before touching the cheek she kissed and felt extremely excited or was it happiness?
He slowly made his way back inside the car and sighed heavily.
"Heaven. She's my heaven."
He wasn't wrong the first time he had seen her. She was different what others would call her average, she gave him the tingling sparks the moment he'd laid his eyes on her. She was meant to be his. It seemed he has finally found the sweet nectar he had been searching for.
"I need that sweetness more."
He finally said it, the word he hadn't been able to put at the moment he saw her.
For the first time of the year, Rebus Schwarz smiled.
