First Week

The following day they had potions which reminded him of the stupidity that was Zacharias and what he said at the feast. "The poor man's magic"

Potions were extremely time-consuming and depending on what you were making could have very expensive ingredients.

Trenton wasn't a fan, believing that magic could solve all things and didn't need to spend so much effort making potions if you could figure out how to use magic in the proper way you needed.

He did know it could be easier for some to just make a potion than to try and cast magic. He was also aware that potion masters could be hard to deal with if they carried a good number of battle potions on them. Trenton, however, wasn't immune to the lazy nature of wizards, the last thing he wanted to do was spend time and effort making a potion and then carrying it around, though if he had ample time to prepare for something and felt it necessary he would likely do it.

This was his first time meeting the one called Snape and it wasn't a letdown. Snape was exactly as advertised, you could tell right away that not only did he care little for the art of potion-making and was just simply gifted at it, but you could see contempt for having to teach children the craft.

Trenton couldn't understand why Dumbledore felt the need to make this man a teacher, couldn't he have just made him a school protector or something.

The same thing happened as it did in the movies, except for Trenton sitting next to Hermione, telling her that raising her hand in this class is useless, saving her from a lot of grief and embarrassment.

The last class for the day was Herbology where he was introduced to his headteacher for the first time. Professor Sprout, a very cheerful individual, it was no wonder why she was teaching right after Snape, something to help counteract his scary intense atmosphere.

Wednesday they only had charms with Hermione's head and then Thursday they had Defence Against the Dark Arts and History after.

Usually, the Dark Arts class was supposed to be fun and pump students up to try new and interesting combat spells, and then History class which everyone knew was boring, was supposed to bring students down form that high so they don't go around practicing dangerous spells on their own.

This was not the case during this school year. Quirinus Quirrell insisted on acting like a fool and didn't give any useful teachings, greatly lowering the school's effectiveness in teaching students how to protect themselves from dark wizards. A good play by the Dark Lord if that was his plan or possibly just a side effect from his fool acting.

Thus Trenton was not just bored in the Dark Arts class but he was attacked by boredom again in History class. It was even taught by a ghost called Cuthbert Binns, confirming that it was a worthless class for Trenton. He never believed history was important, it was the here and now that matters most, and what you are planning on doing in the future. It was extremely rare for history to ever lead to something useful or important, after all, there is a reason its history.

Friday was Flying Class, nothing of note happened, the results ended the same as you would expect, but the way it happened was different. The teacher wasn't incompetent, she easily stopped Neville from hurting himself, allowing the class to resume with Neville learning how not to lose control of a broom.

At some point, Neville still lost his remembrall and Harry and Malfoy had their little play while the teacher was distracted by students traveling to far, forcing her to follow and corral them back.

Harry once again ending up as the youngest seeker.

After flying class, they had Astronomy, something many found strange to be learning as kids. Many thought the reason they were taught this so early was to broaden their horizons so they seek greater knowledge and to further inspire younger generations to strive for more. To realize that they are still so small to all that is out there, but others believed in rumors/conspiracies that say we already have a base on the moon and are preparing for voyages further into space that needed future generations to be prepared. This however has always been denied by those in high positions, but muggleborn's argued that it was possibly true because muggles have already gone and there was no way wizards would allow themselves to be 2nd or inferior in any way to a muggle.

Trenton also made time to visit Hagrid's with Hermione so Rocky can play with Fang, the only other dog around. Hagrid didn't see any problem with it, though Fang just laid there watching the excited pup hop around him.

They talked about how Hagrid takes care of the familiars and how it was a shame most kids were irresponsible and that some familiar's were even abandoned here.

He asked Hagrid if Fang was a normal dog which he replied yes before asking if there was something different about Rocky.

Trenton then explained Rocky's origins.

Hagrid frowned- "That's awful, that is, to think they would harm such wonderful creatures just because they don't like the way it looks."

Hagrid- "You know I have a pet Cerberus, amazing creatures they are."

Hermione's eyes widen- "You have a pet Cerberus, I read they're extremely ferocious."

Hagrid- "Nonesense, Fluffy is the sweetest thing you'll ever meet, a bit big sure, but sweet none the less, you'd be surprised how cute he can be, in fact, he falls right asleep if you just play a bit of music... I shouldn't have told you that."

Hermione confusedly looked at him and was about to ask why when she was interrupted.

Clearing his throat, Hagrid changed the subject, ushering them out - "Huhum I think that's enough for today, Fang isn't likely to move, off you go now."

The weekend came and with it a much-needed rest from all the boring they ended the week with. Homeroom where she just droned on about information, Potions being more torture then learning, the Dark Arts being a letdown, Astronomy while neat wasn't really useful, and then History the most boring and worthless of them all.

Transfiguration and Charms were the only saving grace of the week and possibly Herbology, but having Snape earlier didn't help.

Trenton had no idea how he was going to survive a whole year of this mess, he wondered if he could get away with skipping classes, though he doubted it.

At least during the weekend's familiars were allowed to stay in Hogwarts as a small type of reward for the week to help students further relax and prepare for the following week as long as they weren't the type that needed to stay outside.

Hermione was sitting in one of the open courtyards next to Trenton who was using a rope to play tug of war with Rocky.

Once in awhile other kids would take the chance to come over and pet Rocky, but otherwise, they were left alone to enjoy there free time together.

Hermione put down her book- "Trent have you been keeping up with your reading? There are so many new wonderful things to learn about now." she asked hoping she wasn't the only one reading again. One of the things she liked most about Trenton was that he was also an avid reader.

Trenton- "Of course I am when I have time, but I also have to make time for my precious Rocky, oh yes I do, yes I do, whos a good boy." he said falling into his doggy speech while tugging the rope close enough so he could rub his head into the growling dog who was still focused on not losing the rope. Although Trenton had a feeling Rocky was going easy on him and could take it whenever he wanted if he so desired. He didn't believe for a second Rocky was reduced to just a normal dog even though he has yet to demonstrate anything unique yet other than his intelligence.

Hermione couldn't help but grin when she saw him acting like that, he and Rocky were so cute together.

It was at this time Harry and Ron came walking by discussing how he was the youngest seeker and how nervous he was because of it. Surprisingly someone other than Hermione went up to tell him about his dad and where he could find it, leaving Ron and Harry to discover it by themselves.

Later that night Trenton and Hermione were heading back to the dorms later than usual because Trenton wanted to experience a night out for a little while before heading in. Talking Hermione into going against her instincts to follow the rules to the letter, saying it will be fine for a bit. He liked the way the castle looked so much more imposing at night all lit up, recalling when they saw it coming around the bend that night on the boats for the very first time.

On the way to their respective common rooms, upon reaching the stairs, Rocky caught a very interesting scent, it smelled like family.
