"Partners?"
"Yes ma'am"
"And everyone has a partner?"
"Yeah" everyone mumbled.
"Everyone go hold your partner's hand" when we hesitated, she slammed the teacher's table. Everyone scrambled to their respective partners.
I felt a lump in my throat when I saw Doris holding Seth's hand. I felt some warmth on mine and when I looked at it, I saw a big hand.
Lance.
He was looking at me with a kind of warmth that creeped me out. I just smiled and looked at Mrs Edith.
"This is perfect. Guys you are holding your partner's hand"
"Pft...durrr" I heard Alissa say.
"I mean your partner for THIS project" Mrs Edith deadpanned.
"What??!!" all the students yelled. I turned to look at Seth.
He was also looking at me. Doris beside him had a stupid smile on her stupid face that wasn't suited for her stupid body.
Okay I need to take a chill pill.
Lance put an arm around my shoulders.
"Okay this isn't the drama club enough with the death glares and daggers your hurling my way cause what I say goes"
"We vote against this Mrs Edith" Michael Lee said.
"Well I'm sorry I've spoken and all must obey"
"We have a say in this" Nancy said.
"And I'll have my way" she cackled then the bell rang. "Okay nuisances get out"
I shrugged Lance's hand off my shoulders. I packed my things and moved to the next class without giving anyone face.
I sat through the following classes in a daze barely digesting anything the teachers were trying to engrave in us.
When it was time for break I first went to drop some things in my locker before going to the cafeteria.
"Beth! Beth!!" I heard someone calling. I turned but my heart sunk further when I saw it was Lance.
He was out of breath when he reached me. "Hey are you okay?"
"I'm great and hungry. Now if you'll excuse me" I hit the double brown doors and frowned when I felt a hand around my shoulders.
"Yeah I'm famished"
I rolled my eyes and slapped his hands off me. I walked to the food cause at the moment that's what I needed.
Some food in my system.
Some people get boosted by alcohol or something else but me...food is my daily motivation except Seth of course.
I got fries and a juice box.
"Let's go find an empty table" I heard Lance say.
I scoffed. "What empty table? Your ego has taken up the whole place"
He just grinned and grabbed my hands before pulling me with him. More like dragging because I wanted to go to the library or the bleachers or something.
We stopped in front of a table consisting of my besties: Linc, Becca, Sharon, Seth....And then there was Carter.
"Hi" I said seating down between Sharon and Seth.
Lance tapped Seth to move but the latter didn't act at all like Lance existed so he just sat beside Carter and Lincoln.
"Beth do you know that Nelly is here?" Becca asked with a smile on her face making her look like a fallen angel.
Note my sarcasm. Fallen angel.
Fallen angels are demons.
Hahahaha.
"Really? That's great" I said shoving fries down my throat.
"There she is" Sharon said and waved to her.
I swirled my upper body and saw Nelly coming towards us with a huge smile and her cute dimples.
Nelly is my favorite cousin. I told her some things I couldn't tell Becca, she was in a way my twin.
"Hey guys" she greeted with her usual enthusiasm.
"Nelly" I half yelled and the moment she put her tray down I crushed her in a bone crushing hug.
"Can't...breathe.." she said in a shaky whisper.
"Sorry" I laughed. "I missed you" I say pinching her cheeks. "Look how fat you've gotten"
She smiles and pinches my cheeks a little harder than I did hers. "And look at you. You finally stopped dressing like a disaster"
"Shut up" I pouted when the others laughed.
"Can I sit here?" I hear a coquettish voice ask.
I traced the owner and my eyes landed on witch bitch. I opened my mouth to refute but Nelly beat me to it.
"There's no space" she said quietly.
I wonder what's with the timid voice. Nelly is a very outspoken person.
"Of course there's no space. You're here. All your body fat has taken up the available space" Doris said.
Nelly's lashes quivered and I grew annoyed.
I dumped a death glare on Doris and put a hand on Nelly's shoulder. "Hey at least you're fat not ugly" I glanced at Doris and saw her face stiffen. I looked back at Nelly with a smile bright enough to outshine the sun—if... that was possible.
"You can lose weight...whereas a certain person can't lose ugly. Tsk tsk. What bad luck it must be to be ugly"
"You. Are you calling me ugly?"
"Is your name a certain person?"
"I'm no fool. You called me ugly"
I raised my hands in surrender. "Hey you said it not me"
"You—"
"Take a chill pill, Doris. Don't worry I know a guy—"
"Shut up" she said fiercely.
Immediately the eyes of every breathing thing was on us. "Doris I was merely trying to help you didn't need to yell" I switched emotions to that of the pitiful.
"You wretch"
"Calm down. Stop using foul language" I said and looked around, my eyes fell on Principal Sam behind her. A smirk formed. "Listen I'm sorry okay? Stop making a scene"
"I'M NOT MAKING A SCENE" she yelled.
I flinched and a fearful expression covered my face. I knew it was time to create waterworks. A lone tear slipped from my eyes and I hastily wiped it. "Sorry" I mumbled.
"Miss Green in my office now" I heard the principal say.
My head snapped up and I stood up. "Sir *sniff* it was *sniff* my *sniff* fault" I said looking at my hands.
"I saw everything that happened Miss Millers. Miss Green. Now" he walked away.
*Sniff* I wiped away my tears and said down with a very satisfied look on my face.
"I'll get you back for this" Doris gritted out.
I scoffed. "You're still here. Take a piece of advice newbie. Principal Sam hates tardiness" I smirked.
"I'd hate to get into your bad books" Carter said.
"Well I hope you don't fall into it" Sharon said.
