The new groups that arrived weren't just rushing to help the elder from Pemacreba, or to avenge the genius that had died, all of them had been informed that this was a trap to lure out Shui. Putting aside how much they believed it, with the situation as it was they had to step in.
As the group from Pemacreba rushed to help their leader and examine the bodies of their fallen members, those from Reich looked at scene with cold eyes. The particularly muscular man at the head of their group had his senses locked on to Lily. He could no longer sense the insane strength that she used to defeat the elder from Pemacreba, but he couldn't lower his guard against a freak who could jump realms.
Furthermore, disregarding whether she had truly shown such strength, just the fact that she could stare back at him without fear proved that she was dangerous.
"Damn you!!!" one of the men attending to the elder from Pemacreba shouted with intense fury as he sent a humongous red fireball hurtling towards Lily.
The representative from Reich wanted to facepalm at this rash act, but he allowed it to happen. This could result in the death of the aggressor, but at least he could tell whether or not the strength that they had witnessed was still there.
As the fireball approached Lily, the heat could not make her flinch or step back. Instead of that, she was focused on the chance to leave with her siblings that she was sure her master would grant her.
"!"
Her faith was not misplaced as the fireball vanished into nothingness before it could reach her. At the same time, everyone there, the innocent bystanders, the curious spectators, the wary enemies, they all felt a pair of eyes on them. It wasn't adoration, respect, hate, jealousy or curiosity that they felt from these eyes, but it was something that forced them to admit their inferiority.
They couldn't see them, they couldn't sense them, but they knew that they couldn't go against the one behind this feeling. It lasted for a mere minute or so, but it was long enough to traumatize them for the rest of their lives.
"Huh? What happened here?" asked one person after the feeling went away.
After this prompt, everyone tried to recall the details of the incident that happened right in front of them, but it was to no avail. They all remembered that people were killed, that a big fight happened, but none of them could remember the specifics. From powerless mortals to Earth Realm experts who stood in the sky, not a single one was unaffected.
When he noticed what happened to these people, Henry felt a shiver run down his spine; a feeling that he had nearly forgotten.
"Did you do this?" he cautiously asked.
"Yes, I just jumbled their memories a little bit. Without high attainments in the study of the soul they'll never be able to clearly remember what happened here. It would be simpler to kill them, but I'd rather not kill innocent people as well."
With Shui's high vitality, his face didn't turn pale but he was actually drained due to this task. By using 'Confuse' and 'Memory', he could make someone's most recent memory become vague, which was easy enough for him to handle without breaking a sweat. But with both the high quantity and quality of the people he had to use it on, it was no wonder that he felt drained. However, he couldn't show it. He decided to trust the mayor for now, but they weren't close enough for him to show any weakness.
Shui kept up the façade of accomplishing this easily, so the mayor was truly frightened by his abilities. With this level of skill, as well as the present he was given, the mayor was certain that he made the right choice by taking his side and even wondered if he had any female descendants who he could please him with.
Seeing that his act paid off, Shui got up.
"Well, this went well. I'll come for tea again another time."
"Please do."
Before Shui parted from the overview of the city, he looked down on the academy once more, and confirmed the disappearance of several people who should have been at the scene. Lily and her siblings as well as, a certain pair of father and son.
Once Jacob saw the representative from Pemacreba be defeated, he hastily retreated with his son to their mansion. When he brought him home in grave condition, his wife was the first to see them.
"Jacob, this, this..!"
Looking at his broken legs left her speechless. Jacob understood that she was distraught, but he couldn't bother comforting her. He gave her Shane and walked deeper into the mansion.
"Jacob, what hap-"
"Kia, I don't have time right now. Take care of him."
With their wealth, it wouldn't be hard to fix his legs, but Jacob sighed when he thought of how hard it would be to fix his mind. Jacob went straight to his office and sat behind his desk. This was the best place for him to calm himself and carefully think about his next step. Jacob scratched his head and looked down on his desk in contemplation.
"Tch, what should I do now?"
"I wonder the same thing."
Unexpectedly, there was a response to his monologue. Jacob hastily looked up and was horrified by who he saw. This was the first time they had met in person, but from the description he heard it was hard not to recognise the pretty boy in front of him.
Jacob's first instinct was to reach for a weapon, but the moment their eyes met he found himself immobile.
"Wha-what did you do me?" he asked with fear seeped into his voice.
"Restricting you of course. You are my enemy after all."
Jacob knew that Shui was powerful, but for there to be such a large gap between them left him frightened. He wondered if any of his contacts could actually defeat him.
Without minding these thoughts of his, Shui grinned and took out a green pill which made no effort of hiding its poisonous traits. Jacob would squint his eyes at it if he could, but there was no way for him to run.
"You see, I thought about wiping out your family again, but it seems old man Anders isn't here, and I wouldn't want him bothering those kids when I'm away. Then I realized, I could just have you do the deed for me."
"Why would I ever-"
"Oh, you might not want to refuse so quickly. Or else I might have to keep my word and take care of you and your son."
Jacob couldn't talk back anymore, he thought he was prepared for failure, but he didn't expect it to be like this.
Once he saw him being more submissive, Shui stretched out the poison pill towards him and continued, "If you eat this pill, I won't do anything to your son. I'll even heal him. However, you have to kill your father for me, or else you'll all die together. Deal?"
The whispers of this devil weren't tempting in the slightest. Shui's 'gentle' smile filled Jacob with intense hatred, but he didn't dare disobey. He didn't know what was in the pill Shui handed him, but he knew that Shui wasn't afraid to do what he said he would. One word of dissent was all it would take for him to kill them. He might be able to come up with a countermeasure later, but at this time he had no other options but to obey.
When Jacob regained control of his body, he looked at the pill and Shui and grimaced before taking it. Shui remained smiling as Jacob swallowed the pill and intent suddenly left his eyes. With the practice Shui had in alchemy, he could make most simple pills and potions, and they were effective. Even more so if he used his own blood to boost the effects. What he had given him was a soul charming pill, which drastically weakened one's soul defences.
Now that he was vulnerable, Shui touched his forehead and implanted a certain order in him. This was an order that he wouldn't be aware of, but would follow without question. Without even noticing, he would act the way Shui wanted him to.
