I Wish We Could Help

Ray sighed and slumped down on the couch after everyone left and the kids were finally asleep. Everything had been going so well until Alex had a mild allergic reaction to pecan pie. Heather came back from her conversation with him upset, though it wouldn't be obvious to anyone who wasn't married to her.

They had talked about potentially letting Claire and Alex come over again for other holidays but he was surprised that she sent them home with so many leftovers as she issued the standing invitation. She was totally mothering them even though they were only a little over a decade younger than her.

She only did that with people in her inner circle. She had accepted them already.

Ray supposed he shouldn't have been as surprised as he was. Heather had always been like that. If she liked someone, she glommed onto them immediately. She had claimed they would get married during their first meeting and it had happened, after all.
