What Was She?

"I did better than I thought I would," Claire puffed with a grin once she managed to catch her breath a little. "Do you think I'll be able to do better next time?"

Alex smiled at how enthusiastic she was despite her obvious exhaustion. "Absolutely. We're going to take it easy for a couple weeks for your legs to recover but then we can get started on training for your next marathon."

"Awesome! I really couldn't have done this without you today. Thanks, Alex."

The brilliant smile she gave him was thanks enough. "Any time. We should take a picture to commemorate your first marathon."

"You're right!" Claire agreed as she asked for her phone. 

His jogger pants had pockets while her leggings did not so he had been holding onto it for her throughout the entire race. Yet another reason to keep pace with her; if they were separated, she would have no way to contact him.
