That Isn't How That Works

"You're a natural," Claire said with a laugh. "Alex was so bad at this when I took him last year." 

Ethan's eyes widened. "I'm better at something than Alex?!" 

She could see the wheels in his head turning on how to use this information against his friend and couldn't help but laugh. Those two had a serious rivalry sometimes that she couldn't fathom. 

"Who's Alex?" Wyatt asked curiously. 

"My dad," the boy said with a scowl in his direction. "He should be here with us instead of you."

"Ethan!" Claire scolded, not believing how rude he was being. Or the fact that he called Alex his dad when that obviously wasn't true. Where did he even get an idea like that? Was that why he wanted him to wear a matching outfit too? 

He skated away and was too fast for her to keep up with. She sighed and rubbed her forehead in agitation. He would come back eventually but she had never seen him like this before.
