Chapter 318: Let him speak

Zack's POV

"This is all your fault!" Brandt screamed, baring his fangs at him in a threat. 

"Brandt! Stop it!" Nina screamed, furious at his tone. 

He could hear her footsteps as she approached her brother and the struggle that he put up from the rustle of his clothes. Zack didn't bother to look up. After all, what was he to say? That it was not his fault? That would be a terrible excuse for hiding his guilt at best, but it was definitely not the truth, and he knew it. 

When the prince had once asked him if he had it in him to protect her with every inch of his being, Zack had said a yes arrogantly. But now, he wondered at his audacity to give such an answer when he clearly had no idea what it would mean later on. The pain was gnawing in his heart. Today, he not only had failed as a mate but also an alpha only because he chose to trust those who didn't deserve it.
