Chapter 331: A hero's farewell

Elize stared at the starry sky with a blank expression. A sense of loss hung around her like a heavy blanket- too heavy to shrug away. She sat back on the rocking chair by the window, closing her eyes for a moment. Taking a deep breath, she let herself loose to the scents still lingering in the room. 

The last time that she was in the head witch's room was when Aileen brought her there to show her Anna's wedding gown. It had been only a week since then and yet, so much had changed. A mixture of sage and rosemary hung in the air, smelling like the old woman who was long gone. 

The comfort and the warmth that only the witch's smile could provide were now restricted to her memories. She could still hear a younger Aileen's sharp voice calling to her from the edge of the garden, waving a box of cookies while Anna laughed and encouraged Elize to run towards the beautiful witch. Only Aileen was able to calm her down when Anna passed away.
