Unexpected Encounter

ALANA

It only took me a second to get back to my senses. I quickly turned the other way as he got into the elevator. Knight was here. He was here and he did not look like I expected him to. And oh my God why was there some guy who came with him?

I shut my eyes, clutching the metal bar with one hand and using my other hand to drape my hijab over my face in an attempt to hide my identity.

"What's wrong?" The leery guy was standing way to close for my liking but if I moved westwards, I would bump into Knight and that was not part of the plan.

Kill him later, Alana. Just get through this and kill him later.

"Rees," Gosh, his voice was pure authority and I was having trouble standing upright.

"Yes, sir," Rees was dressed strangely as per the one look I'd granted him. Man liked to dress fancy in a floral suit. He clicked around some keys and the elevator finally closed.

"For today's schedule, you have a meeting at 8:45 with Chainsaw shareholders and another one with the Board of Directors at 10:00," He kept speaking so fast I worried his tongue was going to trip all over itself. He'd memorised it all? One peek and I saw he wasn't reading off of anything. Impressive. Knight stood with a don't-shit-with-me face, thumbs hooked into the pockets of his charcoal-grey pants. "At 11:15—"

"That's enough for now," Knight interrupted with a sigh. "Tell me the rest after coffee."

"Should I bring it to your room or will you have it in the cafeteria?"

"Room's fine,"

The elevator stopped with a ping. "That's our stop, Miss," Oh, so I was Miss now? Hmph. "Miss?"

I didn't turn around. "You go," I spoke in a high-pitched voice, hoping Knight didn't realise it was me. Why was I hiding, you might wonder? Oh, maybe because I was realising where this story was heading. I was the poor girl from a small town and here was my Knight, some sort of billionaire and I was trying not to think much about why he had an assistant.

He must be a resident. Yeah. That explanation was better than what I was thinking.

"You won't be able to find it without—"

"Just go!"

With a sigh, he was off to his destination and now there was an awkward silence going on in the air. From out of the corner of my eye, I saw Knight look my way, eyes narrowed and a fire blazing in those pretty irises.

With a cough, I buried my face further into my scarf.

"Miss," Great. I was being called miss again. By the assistant. "We're headed to the top most floor, are you sure you don't want to stop here?"

"No," Yes, I'd been speaking in Turkish all along. "I mean, yeah. I don't want to stop here."

I'd find the kitchen. How hard could it be, right?
