It was quite odd now I think of it. Our world, I mean. To humans, it would sound bizarre and crazy. Hell, even I wasn't sure of it at times. But I knew the job and I knew the importance and for awhile that was enough. As the decision hung in the balance of which life I wanted to discover, the urge was too strong to run. So, I did.
The portal wasn't far, I just had to make it in. It was a couple metres away and I could see the figures standing around it. There were some of the new appointed leaders, my dad to represent the centaurs, and Ferren. That would be a bit of a problem.
This was the team that would be sent to the other side. The human world. They were off to retrieve the sneaky beasts that had made it in whilst we fought to get back.
I hid around the outskirts of the crowd, trying to not get discovered. I was still a little tricky on my feet, but I was getting much better just from moving. Since my entire kind is based off our talent of being light on our feet, it wouldn't be long for me to be great again.
"When you go through, make a plan, and stick together. That's the last advice I'll be able to give for now," My father just finished.
"We are ready." Ferren stated, starting to create a line.
I joined the middle of it, people too busy getting prepped to notice I stepped in.
The line moved quickly. Each would walk through the portal, and then they would disappear. I had almost made it through, I kept my head down, but a hand touched my shoulder.
"Kaida?" A voice asked. I knew it was Ferren's.
"I have to. I'm sorry." I started running, I was just next to the portal, hearing yelling from behind me as I cut the line. The fizzing purple made it look ominous but I wasn't nervous. I walked into the portal, my body tingling all over as I entered.
I didn't even get to say goodbye to my loved ones.
I looked around at the familiar old church in front of me.
"What have I done."
