50,000 years ago, Hell was destroyed because of too much Foul from the resentment of the souls that later turned to Soul Eaters and devoured everything in their wake, leaving nothing of Hell. The gods above in Heaven, in order to take care of the newly-died souls, created the Afterlife Department comprised of grim reapers. 

Huo Ling was delivering food that day when he met Yi Bing and the guy gave him a warning. When he arrived to the customer's unit, he was killed.  
Huo Ling: you set up a death flag for me!
Yi Bing: I'm a grim reaper. I'm the flag myself. Let me help you solve the mystery of your death.

"This time of the day is the best time for the ghosts to come out!" Huo Ling said as he looked around at the deserted road where he and Yi Bing are walking in the middle.

Yi Bing nodded in agreement. "Yes. Midnight is the time when the yin qi is very strong." he spoke. Though, his eyes say otherwise since in his heart, he is treating this moment right now as their date!

If Gu Shi and Di San knows what Yi Bing is thinking right now, they would do a face palm while sighing in their hearts that Yi Bing has gone bad! Yi Bing is not the role model of them all grim reapers like in the past!

"Do you think that we will see a Soul Eater here?" Huo Ling asked. They are currently in the third crime scene where the manager who was on his way home died.

"Hmm." Yi Bing just hummed, thinking that if a Soul Eater would really dare to come, he will stab it a million times and skewer it while bathing it in the sunlight for disturbing his date with Huo Ling.
