The gods above in Heaven, in order to take care of the newly-died souls, created the Afterlife Department comprised of grim reapers.

"Are you okay? Thank you for saving our vice chief!" the policemen told Mo Shi when they saw Jiang Xinduo with Mo Shi and Jiang Xinduo's head was wrapped in a bandage which has a faint stain of blood.

"I – it is alright…" Mo Shi stammered. He can still feel his heart is beating very fast after he was scared just now. If he didn't dodge in time, his head would have been torn off by the Soul Eater's arm.

Yes, he has a head. And the policemen can see him because he has turned to his human form as soon as he made contact with Jiang Xinduo and Su Meng. Or else, Jiang Xinduo and Su Meng would definitely die tonight if he touched them with his bony hand in his grim reaper form, which reeks of the aura of death.

Jin Wu, too, has changed to his human form in order to fight against the Soul Eater and turn his arm, as well as his entire body to gold. Or else, his skeleton would have all been broken by the Soul Eater if he remained in his grim reaper form.
