Orientation

The first day of school was buzzing with anticipation. The four grants woke up early to head to the Grand Magical Academy. They look esteemed wearing their new white uniforms with blue trim.

In the school auditorium, the faculty held a ceremony to welcome the new students. Dragnar introduced himself as the principal and explained how the school curriculum is designed. Students are called magicians, while teachers are called Magi. Magicians select their fields of study from a list of classes the academy releases. In general, magicians can have anywhere from 5-8 classes at any given time. Each class is divided into three levels: novice, proficient, and master. When the magi has assessed that a magician has mastered the material, they move on to the next level. When a student completes the master level, they are considered a master themselves. A magician graduates from the Grand Magical Academy once they have mastered at least 15 fields of study. By then, they receive the title Grand Magician.

Mastery of subjects takes as long as it needs. Therefore, some take years while a prodigy can master a class in as short as 3 months. Gifted students can complete their studies in a year while other take years. Failure to graduate within 5 years leads to expulsion. Though, nobles tend go for less than five years since they are usually called upon to serve in their respective familial sovereignties, most of achieve Grand Magician status.

After the welcome ceremony, the whole school proceeded to the school arena where different clubs and magic specialties have kiosks in an effort to gain the interest and potential membership of new students. Since there are so few new students, luring a new member is a competitive affair. Starting tomorrow, there will be a weeklong tournament where various school groups get to showcase their power and influence. The groups who do well usually attract more memberships. The tournament usually gives new magicians an idea of which classes they want to pursue.

It dawned on the new magicians just how elite the school is. Acceptance to the school is by invitation only. Althea realized that with such a small student population, class ratio must be one magi to 10 magicians at most. It was also widely known that some of the more advanced and rarer classes were taught one on one. The new magicians plan on taking advantage by enrolling in as many classes as they can. They look over the list of popular classes:

Upon looking over the list of currently offered courses, it became clear that it would be impossible to take on all the classes. Some of them were designed specifically for nobles and how to use their magic in the context of their responsibilities. Some of the classes were specific to your element, preferred weaponry, or battle style.

All four have discussed taking classes that would improve their skills as adventurers. Bryce kept a list of primarily battle related classes. Terrick was interested in the Magic and Music as well as the Perfecting Fire element class. Althea was eyeing the Spell Creation and Perfecting Light element classes. Ellie was considering the Perfecting Water element, and Magical Research class. Both girls are interested in the Healing class since they both had healing spells. However, they held off on making their final decisions until they saw how each representative would fair in the tournament in the next couple of days.
