Prologue, Chapter 8

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not exactly that familiar with things that can be considered normal. Being born to one of the most prominent families in the kingdom aside, my mother also happens to be a hyper lethal military officer for some sort of secret agency and has a hobby of hunting down Magical Beasts. Safe to say that I'm used to encountering strange scenarios. I can also safely say that this might just be the strangest and most outlandish thing I've encountered in all my life.

I shakily smile and with a wavering voice ask for clarification, "I think I might have misheard."

The Prime Minister retains his serious disposition and assures, "You had not misheard. I need your help in saving the kingdom."

Definitely the most ridiculous situation in my entire life, also one that makes very little sense. Despite my status and abilities, I'm still very much a regular teenager with no formal military training or political education.

I have many other questions but I suppose I should go for the most obvious one, "Why me?"

He looks quite regretful at that, "Quite frankly I'd rather not get you involved at all, but I'm in a precarious position and I don't want to involve Medea in this either. You're, quite frankly, the best option I have."

I probably wouldn't have noticed it if not for Insight but, "I'm not your only option."

"I have other options, quite a lot in fact. However nearly all of those would result in bloodshed." He's very solemn in admitting this.

I still have so many questions and I really don't know what to ask. Why me specifically? What does he want me to do? I best get to the point.

"What would you have me do?" I try to sound as resolute as I can.

Prime Minister Aeetes straightens himself and seems to scrutinize me until he looks away and lets out a sigh.

When he looks back at me his face is unreadable as he asks, "What do you know of Naturalists?"

I blink in quiet surprise, "By Naturalists, do you mean those idiots who think that Beasts are harmless and that the outside is perfectly safe?"

His face remains stern despite my harsh remarks, "There's more to it than that but you're not off the mark," his visage falters as he hesitates, "I can't give you all the details but we have reason to believe that they are involved in the recent disturbances involving the Magical Beasts."

That doesn't sound good at all.

The Prime Minister continues, "Your Spirit Magic, Demon Lord's Eye of Discernment,"

My mortification seizes me as I interrupt him in a desperate bid to save face, "It's called Insight!"

Ever unflappable, the Prime Minister continues despite my rude interruption, "Insight makes you the Kingdom's best option to find the people we suspect."

Before I can voice my question he quickly continues, "We are taking preemptive measures because it has been discovered that they intend to destabilize the Kingdom in order to shut down our defenses and destroy the Tesla Beacon."

My face quickly loses all color as terror seizes me at the thought.

This is really not good.

Destroying the Tesla Beacon. Still hard to believe anyone is that stupid. Probably harder to believe that I'm supposed to look for said stupid people.

I continue to blankly stare up at my ceiling as I lie in bed. I don't know how long I stayed like that until I heard my phone's familiar ping. Rolling over to my end table I grab my phone and unlock it. Medea sent me a text.

Medea: my dad met up with you, what did you 2 talk about

I blankly stare at my phone. I'm not supposed to tell her, I know I'm not supposed to tell her but…

Cassius: it was just about my studies, future courses and such

Lying to her made it feel like a part of me died. I trusted her with so much and she did the same for me, but this is dangerous. I'm going to have to investigate people that are pretty much involved with a terrorist group. People who seem to have forgotten the Fall of Hellas. These are the kind of people I'm going to have to go against, delusional they may be. At least I'm only supposed to find them.

Helping to save the Kingdom… This is really dangerous, but maybe this is my purpose.
