The next day Paul woke up with a bit of a headache and back ache. His thoughts were still a little misty from from the night before. Looking down he saw the half eaten fruit that was the cause of him fainting. He didn't feel anything wrong with him besides being a bit thirsty.
The little stream that came from his new home(cave) was very clear, but when he saw his reflection it made him have to look again. On the final tenth time he braced himself and looked at himself head on.
Everything looked normal on his face and body except for the bright tangerine colored hair on top of his head! Paul who was quite a normal guy had brown hair but, now it was almost like his head was on fire. How could he ever go out in public like this, I would die of embarrassment, he thought. Then realizing that in his current situation that was the least of his worries he spiraled back into depression at the thought of there only being him and no other sentient being out there or everything wanted to kill him and tear him up to shreds.
After awhile he convinced himself to get up thinking that if he just continued crouching there he would probably be eaten by some other gruesome animal.
Thinking that maybe he could wash it off he dunked his head into the clear cold water. When he came up after a few seconds, he checked his reflection if there was any changes, but to no avail. He still had bright tangerine hair but now it was soaked in water.
Feeling quite cold after his dip in the stream he went back to his dwelling and tried to make fire. After trying to recall the way to make a fire without the use of fuel he remembered that in boy scouts they would have to turn a stick really fast on a plank of wood to make the spark to start the fire. Just thinking about it made Paul sigh "Ugggh, off to get some sticks and wood then."
After gathering his kindling he picked out a rather flat wood that he had found under a huge tree behind the cave. Putting the flat stick under his feet and rotating another stick on top he tried to make a fire.
Needless to say he failed miserably the first time and by the fourth time he was quite winded. Finally on his 6th try he got a spark, hurriedly he got some twigs and transferred the spark onto the twigs. They started to smoke a bit so he put some kindling on top. About 5 minutes later he had a nice warm fire.
Paul, now completely worn out from his workout just laid beside the fire looking up at the ceiling of his cave. At that moment he was thinking "Do I really have to live like this for the rest of my life?" and "Ahh I could really go for some fried chicken right now, wait are chickens even still around?"
Thinking about chicken wouldn't get him dinner though and he didn't want to just eat some fruit again. So he went back to the bank of the stream thinking there might be at least some kind of fish in the water. While looking at the water he noticed something swimming a bit a ways away. It was kinda shiny flickering in the sun like a rainbow.
As he got closer he could tell it was some kind of fish, but after having his hair turn orange he was more cautious of what he put in his mouth. He waded into the water that came up to his nee's. As he got closer to the fish the more shiny they seemed to be.
At about a meter away he was ready to get some fish for his dinner. After eyeing them for a bit he decided to aim for the one that glittered in a kind of metallic purplish way. He lunged for it. From the water he came up with the fish in his hands squirming around trying to get free.
Determined to keep his hold on the fish he tighter his grip and started to move towards the bank. Quickly he made it to his cave. The fish had died from lack of water before he had gotten to the cave. Paul being a bit squeamish about killing an animal still was actually quite relieved. He was also happy because he could finally have some cooked meat.
After cutting off the head he skewered the rest with his big pointy thorn and let it roast over the fire. Fish being one of the only things Paul could cook made sure to check if it was ready to eat. It was white tender flesh under nice crinkly skin. He couldn't help but drool as he drew it closer to his mouth.
