The inhabitants swarmed toward the viscount's manor. Gears ground as a mechanism roared to life, the ground opened up revealing a wide underground road. Even so, the entrance was small for the hundreds of citizens that had to squeeze through. If they tried to make the citizens go any faster, they would likely start trampling each other.

Zhang Wang's artillery cannon must have taken out at least hundreds of demons but hadn't even been enough to make a notable dent in the enemy forces. His cannon was beginning to smoke, making weird clunking noises as it jostled. It smelled of burned metal and gunpowder and Zhang Wang had a feeling the thing wasn't going to last. Who was he fooling, the cannon was about to explode at any moment.

His helper had abandoned him, returning to the wall to help with returning the enemy's arrows, which only seemed to double in number as the Empress's forces inched closer and closer.
