22-The First Mate (Part 2)
Bob:"The pain of losing a loved one was too great for me as I bordered suicide from depression .But the Captain knocked some sense back into me , after that , we have been visited by the Marines who offered the Shichibukai position to the Captain who accepted . I had my daughter on me all times , she learned the language pretty quickly at age 2 and could walk at 3 . I know , weird right ? Most kids learn to walk before speaking . But she apparently was unable to walk because I had her on me all day since she was pretty much what was holding my life in pieces .
Anyway , after she was 5 , the Captain planned on betraying the Marines . I knew what kind of deep crap I was setting myself into at the time . So I did the best option available for me , abandoning my kid ." As I heard that , I knitted my brows but it was more per instinct than by actual rational thinking .
Bob:" Hahaha ! You don't need to look at me like that . It was the only thing I could do , my position as the First Mate made me the second most wanted man after the Captain , while the Captain's bounty was 450 million it was pretty low for a Captain . That was because of his Shichibukai title . While he wasn't notorious per se , he didn't mind dirtying his hands in Marine or even civilian blood if necessary .
So I went back to my hometown and entrusted my now 8 years old daughter Maria (Don't misunderstand she was 5 when entrusted ) to my sister who was 23 at the time, her name is Lili . She should still be at the island after all this happened ."
He then proceeded to down the entire bottle in a single breath before locking gazes with me . He smiled a loving smile and ruffled my hair , I didn't say anything but appreciated the love nonetheless , it was the first time that I experienced warmth and love from a family .
Bob:" You may be called a killer , a monster , an evil bastard for your entire life , but you should know , as long as you have principles that you are willing to see them through to the end . The principle of this ship is that everyone here is family . Family have arguments , fights and even hate each other over stupid things . Expecting not a single act of awkwardness or violence in a family is asking for a 'Perfect Family' , but something that you will learn after growing up..." He got up from the ground took a bottle and destroyed it on the top of his head , blood was dripping from his head along with the booze, he continued:" Perfect is boring" .He then threw it towards a crewmate who just happened to be there , he narrowly dodged it .
Charles:" WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU BOB!?!?"
Bob laughed loudly like a mad man and then said loudly :"NEVER GROW UP TO BE PERFECT , NEVER GROW UP TO BE BORING !!! SUFFER AND MAKE POEPLE SUFFER !!! BECAUSE ONLY WHEN WE ARE LACKING SOMETHING CAN WE TRULY ENJOY IT !!!"
Hearing this mad man shout before me like that made my eyes shine and I found the principle that I lived for 'Always repay a favor'
---End of the Flashback---
Remembering the man who taught me my whole way of life I stared expressionlessly at the little girl before me who was shivering holding the woman's hand who seemed really cautious of me , I decided to speak :
Marthin:" What's your name kid ?" Then , Lili raised her eyebrows but still nudged the girl to answer in case I was going to get aggressive with her .
Maria:" M-my name is Maria Alexandria Victoria ."
At this moment , the whole world froze for me as cold sweat ran behind my back .
Marthin:"...How old are you ?"
Maria:"I-i' m 12"
I then knew that coincidences can't be this exagerated and I immediatly did what was the most logical thing to do .
BANG*
Everybody :" ..Huh?"
BANG*
BANG*
BANG*
The boys stopped caring around the second noise but the girls looked horrified .
Lili:"W-what in th-"
BANG*
Lili:"Why ar-"
BANG*
BANG*
Maria now shouted in a concerned tone :" S-STOOOP!!!
I then stopped what I was doing , wich consisted of getting on my knees and banging my head against the floor oug of guilt .
'HOW !?!?!? HOW COULD I !?!?@? SHE'S HIS DAUGHTER AND I HURT HER !!?@?@
WHAT ' ALWAYS REPAY THE FAVOR ' NOW I CAN'T EVEN NOT HURT MY OWN FAMILY'S DAUGHTER !!?!?!? I FAILED YOU BOB !?! I FAILED YOU DAD!?@?I FAILED YOU MARTHIN !?!?'
At this point , what didn't show on my face was definitely that I was having a mental breakdown . I destroyed my own principles and caused harm to my OWN FAMILY .
My face was covered in my own blood as I hit my head with all the strength I can muster .
Maria was still scared but worry was evident on her face , such an innocent girl , 12 and the daughter of a pirate . You would expect her to be far more cruel and greedier than me . But she is far purer and more gentle than anybody I ever saw . Was I ever as pure as her , so pure that I could worry about someone who tried to cut off my hands . No ! Hell no ! I would try to kill him with all my strength , even if it was before I got used to killing and cruelty after staying with the pirates and dad .
She is way too soft but is determined and brave enough to speak up to someone who could have actually killed her .
She's an orphan , and her suffering was far more than mine , as she knew what having parents felt like . I did not , I addapted to my situation better than she did . But it's just clear that poeple when confronted to the same circumstances have different ways to deal with the same problem , mine is simpler and hers is far trickier .
She is determined and strong , stronger than me , stronger than Darryl and definitely is the daughter of Bob .
Seeing the girl bring some bandages for me , I was even more sure about what I thought .
I chuckled , laughed and then laughed so loudly my head and stomach started hurting .
Marthin:"SU SU SU SU SU SU !!!! They say the apple always falls near the tree . What fucking apple !"
Dannyl and Hachi smiled slightly even though they didn't understand what's happening .
Marthin:" My name is Marthin .D. Brenassone , and I'm your uncle !"
