Growing Up: Part 2

October 31, 1981

It was Halloween. Lily and James had changed their secret keeper from Sirius to Peter. After being under the fidelius for almost a whole month(half a month each secret keeper), Lily and James decide that it would not be such a risk to go shopping for some supplies themselves. After all, they were starting to get cabin fever from being kept inside all day. In their place, to watch the boys, was Peter Pettigrew the secret keeper.

In the cottage in Godric's Hollow, Peter is playing with the boys. He looks into their trusting baby eyes. One a bright and intelligent green, similar to Lily's. The other a dull brown, with the intelligent of any other baby. "I'm sorry little ones, But I need to do this. I can't fight against him."

With that, Peter brought the twins to their crib and left the cottage, and less than a minute later, a cloaked figure came into the house. This figure was shrowded in darkness and evil. He seemed to glide through the house. He blasted all of the obstacles in his way, whether tables, chair or doors. He came upon the nursury. Once he went in he saw the two children. He saw their eyes, much like Peter. He instinclively knew that the green eyed boy was the one he was meant to kill. This green eyed boy was Harry.

The cloaked figure, or Voldemort, drew back his wand hand and prepared the spell to kill the boy. "Avada Kedavra" A flash of green light flew from his wand. The light hit Harry and a membrane of light, a shield, surrounded Harry. This shield reflected the curse back onto his attacker. The shield not only reflected the spell but also strengthened the spell. The spell hit the dark lord and his body turned to ash, his cloak and wand fell to the floor, and his spirit fled the scene. Although the spell was blocked, it left a lightning shaped mark on the left side fo his forehead. Due to magical exhaustion, however, Harry passed out.

The impact of the reflection had caused an explosion of energy in all directions, destroying the nursury and making part of the ceiling collapse. Some shards had fallen and had made a V shaped scar on Charles' right cheek. This caused Charles to cry.

Peter, still waiting outside for the lord he betrayed his friends for, heard the explosion and the baby crying afterward, he could not help but feel shocked that the dark lord that had failed to kill both babies. He rushed into the house to see the children. He saw that the children were both alive and that the cloak and wand were on the floor and grabbed the wand and turned into his animagus rat form to run away.

Moments later, James, Lily, Sirius and Dumbledore all made their way into the cottage. They saw all of the destroyed furniture and began to seriously worry. They rushed to the nursury and saw both of the children with scars on their faces and the cloak on the floor. Dumbledore checked both children to see which one was the one that dedeated the dark lord. He saw that Charles had both more dark magic permeating him as well as more magic within him than Harry. In fact, to them it seemed that Harry was almost a squib and had slept through the whole ordeal. They also put down his scar from the ceiling collapsing. They came to this conclusion because the shield Harry conjured used most of his reserves and at his age is very hard to recover from, causing him to sleep for many days.

James and Lily brought their children to St. Mungos, the wizarding Hospital in England, to make sure that the children would not have any side affects due to the dark lord. Once they got it checked, they were given a shocking discovery. Harry had become a squib due to Charles drawing too much magical energy from Harry to stop Voldemort. At least that was the only explaination that made sense to any of them. No one was going to question Dumbledore who said that it was Charles who defeated the dark lord.

After tearful moment for Lily and James after discovering that the attack on their children left one unable to do magic at all, Dumbledore suggested that they prepare for the future. Dumbledore told the Potter couple that he believed that Voldemort was not truly gone yet. Thus he propsed that he train Charles to the best of his ability. The parents were thrilled about this, seeing as their child would eb abe to study ununde the best wizard alive. Dumbledore then suggested sending Harry away the the muggle(non-magical) world, where he wouldn't know that he was a squib as he wouldn't see any magic, or live in the shadow of his brother who was the boy who lived abd the vanquisher of Voldemort.

At first, Lily was completely against it as she did not want to be seperated from her child, but after some convincing from both James and Dumbledore, she agreed to send Harry away. Although she had sent her child away, she insisted that he still stays with the family. Because of this, Harry was sent to his Aunt Petunia to be raised in the muggle world. He was left on the doorstep of her sister's step with a letter explaining the circumstance.
