Harry, Petunia and Pearl enter Ollivander's wand shop. As Harry enters, he can't stop himself form thinking, 'Wow, this shop is really old.' The shop is full of disarray. Everywhere there are boxes with wands in them and the overall feeling the shop gives off is the need to be cleaned. Out of nowhere, an old man with silver eyes says, "Hello, welcome to my shop. I assume you are here to egt your want before your first year at Hogwarts.'
"Yes sir." Harry replied. Petunia was silent the entire time.
"What's your name and wand hand?" Olivander said.
"My name is Harry Evans and this is my Aunt Petunia Evans. I am also right handed."
Olivander starts measuring Harry's body, from his wrists to arms and legs and even his head. At the same time he explains about wands, "Well you see Mr. Evans, that every wand in my shop uses Pheonix Feather, dragon heartstring and unicorn hair. Every wand is different just as every Pheonix, dragon and unicorn are different. Because of that, the wand chooses the wizard. Well then, lets get started on finding your wand. Here try this, Holly and Unicorn Hair, 10 1/2 inches, unbending"
Harry took the wand and waved it around a bit, but Mr Ollivander snatched it out of his hand almost at once.
"Maple and phoenix feather. Seven inches. Quite whippy. Try –"
Harry tried – but he had hardly raised the wand when it, too, was snatched back by Mr Ollivander.
"No, no – here, ebony and unicorn hair, eight and a half inches, springy. Go on, go on, try it out."
Harry tried. And tried. He had no idea what Mr Ollivander was waiting for. The pile of tried wands was mounting higher and higher on the spindly chair, but the more wands Mr Ollivander pulled from the shelves, the happier he seemed to become.
"Tricky customer, eh? Not to worry, we'll find the perfect match here somewhere – I wonder, now – yes, why not – unusual combination – holly and phoenix feather, eleven inches, nice and supple."
Harry tried to use this wand as well, and it started to burn his hand. Harry instictively dropped the wand. "Intresting..." said Ollivander. Ollivander than proceeded to leave th front of the store and went to retrieve another wand. Once he came back, with a fancy and ornate box in his hand, he said, "This wand has been in my family for generations. It has never seen an owner. In fact it was made by the first Ollivander wand maker, one of his last creations before he died and passed the torch. It is multiple woods and cores. For its woods it contains elder, elm, ebony, cypress, cherry, ash and alder. The cores include thestral hair, unicorn hair, thunderbird tail feather, pheonix tail feather, basilisk fang, and dragon heartstring. 10 inches. Pliant."
When Olivander opened the box containing the wand to show Harry, Harry could not help but gasp. The wand was perfect. It was all colors but none at all. It seemed as though the wood was brown that seemed as if they grains of wood itself became a kaleidoscope of colors, while still appearing brown. The wand itself was a work of art, though it seemed to be shaped as a magician's wand, where the whole thing was round though the end that was not a handle came to an unsharpened point. It did have a slight ridge as a pommel. When Harry picked it up, he held his breath in anticipation, because holding the wand felt right.
Around Harry, a golden glow appeared. The wand began to spark. It seemed as though Magic itself was blessing the wizard wand relationship. As the glow began to receed, the shocked looks on the faces of Ollivander and Petunia made Harry wish that he had a camera to capture the moment. When Ollivander finally came out of his shock, Harry asked the old wand maker, "How much will it cost?"
"7 galleons, like all of the wands in this shop." Ollivander replied.
After paying for his wand, Petunia and Harry make their way out of the shop. Seeing as they still have more time before they need to pick up Dudley from his friend's house, Petunia and Harry decide to get ice cream and get books that are not on the prescribed list. By doing this, Harry was able to get books on Occlumency, Legilimency, Arithmancy, and Ancient Runes. Seeing all of these books, Harry realized that it is going to be a long month trying to learn it all.
After they have everything, Petunia and Harry make their way out of Diagon Alley, then the leaky Cauldron, and to the car. Throughout their entire trip though, they hadn't noticed another 11 year old boy with his parents, strutting around Diagon Alley as if they own the place. If Harry and Petunia had arrived at Diagon Alley a half an hour later than they did, they would have bumped into the James, Lily and Charles Potter, the boy who lived.
