Into Labor

Not even a minute before the medical personnel sighed in relief, her vital signs shows a drastic change.

Beep.....beep..beeepp...beeepp....beep...beeeep

"What happened?" The nurse asked in frantic.

"She's pregnant. Going into labor...damn!"

Alarmed, the doctor utter a sudden loud cry and tries to stabilize the condition of the patient lying on the operating bed.

"Call any available obstetrician! Right now!"

One of the nurses goes out of the ICU. Trying to compose herself and takes deep breaths as she hurriedly comb her way to the offices of OB/GYN.

While the doctors and nurses rushes out in a hurry to the delivery room.

Lavina and Lavian who's been nervously waiting stand up abruptly when they noticed the nurse running out with blood staining her gloves.

They don't even know what happened before they we're called into the hospital saying that Shin Ah got into an accident.

Trying to stop the nurse, they frantically ask the nurse.

"What–her..she–okay? Is she–o-okay?"

The nurse immediately concluded that they are the family of the patient so she just answered in a jiffy to somehow calm their nerves.

"I'm sorry but we're running out of time, the operation still ongoing. We need an OB/GYN. I think she's going into labor."

Then she ran out.

The door of the ICU opened, the pair of siblings saw Shin Ah who's still laying down being swiftly wheeled out of the ICU room by the doctor and nurses.

They followed them with heavy steps. Half running and half walking their way in.

"Fuck." Lavian curses crisply as he frustratedly combs his fingers through his hair.

While Lavina just sobs softly. Cupping her face with her trembling hands. She lift her tear stained face with worry and distress visible on her face to her brother. She hiccups before saying, "Big bro..."

'...Is she going to be fine?'

That's the question that somehow got stuck on her throat.

They both know that her odds of overcoming this tragedy is close to nothing. And if you somehow overcomes this operation, it will be a miracle. And as to what will happen to the baby. They don't know. Or rather, they don't want to know.

Less than a second later, the same nurse rushingly came back. Still trying to look professional but her hurried breathes and shanking hands betrayed it all.

"What happened?" Lavina ask her.

Not trying to impede the operation but she ask this out of worry.

"There's no one available r-right now."

It's no wonder that they are short of doctors cause they are but a small hospital in a small city. At best, most of the hospitals only have two or even one OB/GYN. So if there's an emergency situation that they cannot take care of it, they can advise the family of the patient to contact the other nearby hospital to take the patient if it's still an early real labor contractions.

"Available? OB/GYN? My brother's a doctor specializes in childbirth. He, he can help you."

She turns her panicked striken face to her brother.

"Go on. Now! Hurry, big bro!"

"But–" Before the nurse utter any words and waste any time, she saw an identification card that proves he is a doctor.

"You can call the director here. He knows me. Say that I'm Lavian Lee."

Then he turns to the changing room as if he knows the hospital well enough.

Still dazed and confused, the nurse goes back to the ICU and told the doctor. The doctor knows that he cannot make decisions that easily specially since it's a life that they are talking about. So he steps out, entered his office to look for his phone and decisively called the director.

Given a go of it, the doctor hurriedly came back to notify the man to start the operation but he's already too late. Cause he's already in the ICU.

Meanwhile, in the operating room.

Lavian concludes that Shin Ah has an abdominal trauma that leads to a partial placental abruption. It means that the placenta has detached from the wall of the uterus. It may also interfere with the unborn baby's supply of oxygen and nutrients.

This can cause bleeding in the mother. And that's why Shin Ah was literally covered with blood.

Since the patient is unconscious, the only way to deliver the baby is cesarean. But it can cause multiple complications and risks for the baby and for the mother.

However, if your health or the health of your child is at risk during childbirth, a c-section may be the safest way to bring baby into the world.

Lavian inhales deeply as he prepares for the operation. He nods to the nurses as a sign to begin the c section operation.

He gets an ultrasound but then he was astound when he found out that there are twins. A two bloody babies.

What they didn't know was that Shin Ah purposely kept it for herself because she wanted to surprise them. So when she found out about it when she went into an OB/GYN to get an ultrasound, she kept a mum on it and didn't tell a soul.

And she didn't know that Lavian is a doctor who specializes in childbirth. She thought he's just an ordinary doctor.

After 45 minutes in the operating room. While the clock is ticking slowly, their breath slacken in anticipation. A sudden loud cry permitted into the air. Desolving the heavy atmosphere in the room.

"Wahh"

"Wah"

"Wahh"

And is followed by another cry.

"Wahh"

"Waaahh"

"Waah"

And they continued to cry together.

"It's a boy and a girl!"
